About this house rental
**Before booking, please message to confirm that you've read our policies and agree to honor them. We'd also love you to share a bit about who's coming and maybe a bit about your adventure. Trust me, this extra step matters! It helps us focus on families / groups and allows us to best prepare for your visit.
New: Ask us to create personalized souvenir "tickets" (free w/booking)!
OUR JOURNEY: As a family, we often struggled to find space within our budget, central to adventures, where our family could build memories and sometimes bring extended family along. And so, when unexpected blessings allowed us to, we set out to create a home away from home that we could both enjoy with our loved ones and share with other families. We hope with all our hearts that you'll find Joyful Days and Restful Nights here.
THE HOME: Turtle's Tuck has room for the whole family! [If over 4 adults - please message me.] Our breezy beachy-themed home had quite the facelift! The entire interior is newly painted. You'll love the warmth of beautifully resurfaced pecan floors, with LVP in bathrooms. You'll find fun furnishings, new textiles (curtains, bedclothes, couch, chairs), creative spaces, and even a little laptop desk (in case you just HAVE to take that meeting!). We really considered each family-friendly amenity. The cozy 1100' sq.ft. home is just 8 blocks from the Atlantic Beach Bridge and 3mi to the Atlantic Beach circle.
A white picket fence surrounds a front garden with flowers most of the year, while a fenced-in back yard and deck provide plenty of space for grilling, gathering, games, or giving the dozens of visiting birdies a little treat. (We'll even leave a little seed for you!)
Update: 2024
We are incredibly grateful that our little house has received such love. Please read the reviews we have received. These, combined with many guest communications, help us know we're truly supporting families, as we set out to do. We continue to tweak bits here and there, as our guests offer feedback.
THINGS TO DO:
Bounce from beach to beach on Bogue Banks, a barrier island at the southernmost part of the Outer Banks. The Atlantic Beach Circle is just 3 miles away. Ft. Macon is about 6 mi., Pine Knoll Shores Public Parking - 9, and Emerald Isle Public Parking -15 mi.
You'll reach downtown Morehead's waterfront in 3 miles. There are parks, boat slips, mini-golf, an arcade, shopping, restaurants, historical sites, fishing, and water sports options nearby. Morehead City itself is on Bogue Sound. Between the local offerings and the Atlantic Ocean, there is much to see and do. We recommend you reserve a day for the NC Aquarium at Pine Knoll Shores. With an easy 6 mi. drive you'll reach downtown Beaufort's quaint waterfront restaurants and docks. Visit the Rachel Carson Reserve, or try a Shackleford Wild Horse and Shelling Safari.
In the guide we've prepared for Turtle's Tuck, you'll find many lists and maps to help you get the most out of your stay. Keep the kids occupied in one of the local parks, play mini-golf, or drop by the local arcade,
If you care to explore a little more of the eastern seashore, Harker's Island is about 20 miles up the road, though it's part of an area called "Down East". Turtle's Tuck was a great place to stay. We arrived to a welcome basket that was very thoughtful and our kids loved it. The kids room had a night light and sound machine (which we didn't think to pack) we also found a baby monitor that worked perfectly for us to have piece of mind when we put the kids to bed. The kids loved the lockers and all the different books to choose from. They played a couple different games that were supplied. (Make sure to look for the treasure hunt game!) We used their welcome book to find different activities to do while staying there. Fort Macon Beach is a must. They were very accommodating when I asked to update the reservation to add more people. Matt seemed to think of everything that a family may need when getting this house ready. I have family that moved to North Carolina (I'm from Wisconsin) so we would definitely like to stay again when we come back to visit again.

A group of ladies and I stayed here and had an amazing experience. The host was open and communicative. Him and his wife are very kind. The property was five star. This was easily the cleanest and most organized rental I have ever stayed at. They go above and beyond and think about all the tiny little details. They have extras of toothbrushes, soap, earplugs, and anything you might need. The grounds were well taken care of and pristine. The neighborhood was safe and quiet. I hope to definitely stay here again in the future. Matt is definitely a super host! Thank you Matt and Kim.

I first want to say, I don’t typically leave reviews, but this place just blew us away! From the moment we reached out to book this place, we found the host to be incredibly hospitable by asking us about our trip and how they can help make it better for us, things our kids like so they can have toys and snacks for them. You could tell they really wanted us to have a memorable time. When we arrived, there was a beautiful gift basket with personal touches for everyone. They truly went above and beyond. The house is fully stocked with everything you could need. Great location and short drives to anywhere you’d want to go. Our kids loved it so much, they are already calling it the “vacation house”, and want to go back again. We cannot rave more about our stay in Turtle Tuck and can’t wait to come back.

Absolutely stunning stay! From the moment we arrived at this VRBO, we knew we were in for something special. The property was immaculate—spotlessly clean and thoughtfully prepared for our arrival. Safety was clearly a priority, as we felt completely secure in the well-maintained neighborhood.
The location couldn't have been better. Just a short walk to the beach, and conveniently close to downtown and other attractions, it made exploring the area a breeze. Whether we were heading to the shore, grabbing a bite at a local restaurant, or checking out nearby sites, everything was within easy reach.
Communication with the owners was flawless. They were incredibly responsive and provided all the information we needed, making our stay smooth and stress-free. What truly set this experience apart, though, was the exceptional thoughtfulness of the owners. From the personalized welcome note to the little touches like a stocked kitchen and local recommendations, their attention to detail was outstanding.
If you're looking for a top-notch vacation rental that offers cleanliness, convenience, and outstanding hospitality, look no further. This place exceeded our expectations in every way, and we hope to stay here again!

If you are looking for a family friendly house with beautiful coastal decor, a clean environment in a quiet neighborhood by the beach, this home is for you. The communication with the homeowners was on point: they were very kind and responsive, tailoring our stay to meet our needs in ways that made this trip memorable.
A few additional things we appreciated were the clean linens, close access the the beach, local park, grocery store, and more. The hosts had wonderfully clear guidelines for the property that made check-in and check-out smooth for our large family.
We also enjoyed the immaculately maintained yard and deck, which was a quiet spot to enjoy in the mornings. Everything was as shown in the photos, and made for a wonderful experience from start to finish.

Goodness, where do I even begin?! Matt and Kim and their absoluteiy lovely home are such an incredible blessing, it’s the absolute BEST! I just cannot say enough positive things about our experience. And about the Morehead City area, as we had never been. When we found the listing, it almost seemed too good to be true — affordable, beautiful home that is super family/children-friendly with kind hosts — but I’m happy to report it’s actually true! It’s all that wonderful. We were absolutely blown away by the kindness shown to us by Matt and Kim in the lead up to our trip (for ex, Kim made absolute adorable “tickets” for my kids for when we told them about the trip) and the arrival process was so smooth and the house was beyond amazing. Kim and matt left us a little welcome bag with such precious gifts, we were floored! The house was clean and tidy, and SO well appointed. Everything you could possibly need! And then some! My kids were beyond excited at all the many many games they have at the house to play (hungry hungry hippo was a favorite) - plus coloring books and kids reading books. They absolutely loved the fun wave wall and “northern lights” in the kids room, and the high chair and pack n play were amazingly helpful, as were all the sound machines. The Shibumi shade was awesome! I have never been somewhere that both the house itself and the hosts made you feel so much like home. Thank you, Matt and Kim! We absolutely cannot wait to return.

Last minute trip and this location was perfect. Everything worked just as planned. No surprises. The place was spotless and exceptionally well appointed. Nice neighborhood and a beautiful yard. They even leave bird seed to feed the birds in the backyard which provided some enjoyable viewing. A great value as well. For less than the price of one hotel room we had four adults comfortably accomodated. Can't think of one thing even remotely bad to say. Loved it!

This place felt light and airy. Our clean and refreshing oasis from a day in the sun. The back deck had partial morning shade and front porch had full afternoon shade. Plenty of chairs all around. We appreciated the cleanliness, 4 steps to the door, extremely comfy king bed, nice thick curtains on all windows, the quiet location, the grill and great big grassy back yard. This house had everything we needed from extra pillows/towels/blankets to books/board games/movies to a fully equipped kitchen. We bought fresh local seafood and cooked at home. The detailed welcome book came in handy. The location is very convenient with a grocery store, gas station and pharmacy within a 5 min drive. Downtown Beaufort and the wonderful Front Street shops/restaurants were 12 mins away. The beach was 10 mins away. We parked at Ocean Blvd access and Fort Macon (with jetty). Check out Radio Island public beach access for a treat (protected cove). We highly recommend the winter/spring sunset views at Cedar Point Tideland Trailhead, a short easy boardwalk overlooking the tidal marshes (for summer/fall sunsets head to the beach). We would definitely stay here again.

This is our family's second time staying at Turtle's Tuck, and we loved it even more! As soon as you walk in the front door, you feel like you can unwind and relax. It's bright and clean, and so comfortable. There was even a kind welcome basket waiting for us on the table full of thoughtful little things that my kids were thrilled to find!
Each room has been beautifully decorated. My 2 young boys loved sleeping and playing in the twin room. They were so excited about the fun cubby lockers in the closet that they unpacked all their things right away. They also loved the fluffy floor pillows and the stack of children's books. Bedtime was so much easier with the galaxy night light that could shine on their ceiling. My teenage girls loved their room as well! They had plenty of space to hang out and thought it was lovely. The kids also loved playing in the backyard.
The kitchen was well stocked with everything we needed. We've stayed at many vacation homes and we always end up going to the store to pick up some spices or something that I forgot, but not here. It had everything I needed to help cook our meals. They even had a basket of bathroom supplies in case we forgot something there. So helpful at night!
The location is perfect. It's on a quiet street, but close to everything! Even on a rainy day there is still plenty to do and games to play. The owners are wonderful to work with and have truly thought of everything to make this beach home feel like a home away from home!

Property was as advertised. The house was well stocked. Beds are comfortable. Matt was in regular communication throughout our stay. Quiet neighborhood and fenced backyard. Although we didn't use them, there is a wide assortment of books, games and family activities. We would definitely book this home again. Thanks, Matt, for thinking of all the little extras that made this a lovely "home away from home"!

I’ve stayed at many VRBOs and this one tops them ALL! Matt is the kindest, most helpful and prepared host ever! They put SO much intention into their home. Linens are incredible, beds are so comfy, and there’s extra everything. Beautiful home, spotlessly clean, wonderful location - this place and the host family are perfection. We will 100% visit again!

This has been the only place we have stayed at that was truly kid friendly.
The bedroom with the twin beds had a night light and a nice projector that lighted most of the room.
Outlets had covers and even the knife cabinet had a baby lock.
The kids absolutely loved to stay there and as parents we had a great time.
Matt was checking in on us from time to time, which was great.
Everything was so closed by the house. Beach access was only a few minutes away, restaurants and stores as well.
The neighborhood was quiet and we had a great time. Thank you!

From the moment we arrived we felt very welcomed and comfortable in this cute little ranch home. The comfy porch furniture and great back deck seating gave us plenty of outdoor space to enjoy the gardens and backyard where we fed the birds with seed provided by host Matt. The central living area and three bedrooms are nicely decorated in a beach theme with little touches that added to our enjoyment like lots of fun games to enjoy. While not directly on the beach it is a 10 minute drive to Atlantic Beach and other small beach towns on the barrier island. The house is on a dead end street so there is literally no traffic or noise to disturb visitors. The welcoming gifts which were personalized to our family were so thoughtful and Matt was extremely helpful when we had questions about the area or anything about the house. The place felt like home for a week. If you’re looking for some exciting nightlife close to your accommodation this might not fit the bill but if you’d like a home base that is family friendly and owned by a truly nice family who were glad we stayed with them then Turtle Tuck in Moorehead City might be for you.

Turtle Tuck was perfect for our family! The house is clean and in a convenient location. The host has taken the time to stock the house to make a visit more comfortable. You can tell they are travellers as well going out of their way to stock the house with things you might forget. I think everyone in my family used the chargers located by the front door more than once. My kids are all older with the youngest being 12, but they loved having the sand buckets available to collect shells. Child-proofing wasn't necessary for us, but was available if needed. They really have gone out of their way to make your stay more comfortable!

Took my mom to celebrate her 60th birthday. What a special weekend! We at a Full Moon Oyster bar…delicious. Sunned on the beach. Shopped at all the local shops. Relaxed on the front porch. Snuggled on the couch. The weekend was far too short. This place will be my go-to as long as they’ll have me. Matt and team have thought of everything: extra phone chargers, toiletries, games, beach towels, safety locks on drawers and cabinets for kiddos….the list goes on. I hold this place near and dear! Thanks Matt and team!!!

This is an older cottage that has been wonderfully updated. It is in a very quiet neighborhood and in easy travel to the center of Morehead and on to Beaufort. A large food store is just a couple of blocks away. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and appreciated all the considerations provided by host Matt.

Turtle Tuck was the perfect house for our vacation! The house was very clean and in a great location. You can tell a lot of time and effort has been put into this home. The small details that Matt has added makes this house feel like home!

Excellent location for activities around Moehead city. Visited the beach and the big several times and was in close proximity to both. Also went to the Aquarium which was also a short drive and to see the minor league Morehead City Marlins play and the stadium was almost a 4 minute drive ! Would recommend purchasing tickets ahead online to streamline the process.
One thing about the house stood out during our stay. The first night was having trouble falling asleep and realized how quet it was in the area. May not always be that way but it is nice to have quiet after the noise all day since a sound system can add sleep noise but not cancel loud neighbors. Overall an excellent stay.

I cannot say enough good things about this property and the owners! The house is in the best location imaginable. I got to celebrate my engagement with my now fiance and family by going to a concert on the sound, only minutes away. The house couldn't have been more homey and I could FEEL all of the love, time, and effort, that has been put into making this vacation house a home for all future visitors. I have already booked another trip for next month! I have and will recommend this house to everyone I know looking for a perfect place to stay at the beach. Matt had the cabinets stocked with a variety of snacks, perfect for when you are on the go. Every little detail that could be thought of, was. Thank you Matt and team for being so special.

Turtle’s Tuck was more than we could have imagined. We felt welcomed as soon as we walked in the door. Turtle’s Tuck is not only clean and inviting, but as an artist the color pallet that was chosen is pleasing to the eye and comforting to the soul.
The bed we slept in was extremely comfortable and the sheets were spectacular. There were also plenty of towels available ( which is very important to me).
Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer. Next time we are in Moore Head City we will be certain to extend our stay at Turtle’s Tuck.

Our family loved our stay at this property! It was very clean, comfortable, and beautifully decorated. As soon as we arrived, we felt like we could relax and take a break from our normal stresses. My husband and I stayed here with our children (ages 16-7), and there was plenty of room for everyone. Our 2 younger boys especially loved the twin room with locker cubbies for all their things. They were also thrilled with the bean bag seats, and the ceiling star projector for their room at night (so fun!). It made bedtime much easier. There were bedtime books and games available that allowed us to have some downtime and connect together after a long day at the beach. Our girls loved the beach themed decor in their bedroom. There were just so many thoughtful touches throughout this home that made our stay feel comfortable and cozy. The beds were great and we all slept well. Everything was clean and tastefully decorated in a relaxing coastal theme. We've stayed in a lot of VRBO's, and this home was one of the best for us!
The location is perfect. It's on a quiet street, but so close to everything. The grocery store is just a couple of minutes away, which made feeding our family so convenient. It was no big deal if someone forgot something because the store was so close by that it was easy to run out and come back quickly. There are also tons of restaurants within minutes of the property, so many options to eat out. It's central to all of the fun activities around Atlantic Beach and the Crystal Coast that we wanted to do. Fort Macon is a very short drive away. Our kids had a great time exploring all the nooks and crannies of the old fort. They also loved the Pine Knoll Shores Aquarium, also only a short drive away. It's only a 10 minute drive to downtown Beaufort, and it was fun to walk around and see the beautiful historic homes along the water. We were able to take a ferry from there to Shackleford Banks. We had a great afternoon exploring the natural beauty of this gorgeous untouched island. We found some huge seashells and even some wild horses!
Turtle's Tuck really was a perfect home base for our family beach trip. It provided all the comforts and conveniences of home, yet so close to the beach and all the activities that everyone enjoyed. We were able to unwind, relax, and make some great memories together. We would definitely recommend staying here and can't wait to come back!

The host was really helpful! The house is cute and comfortable. Everything was clean and as promised. I love having the grocery store right around the corner, especially with kids. We had fun at the beach and loved the aquarium. One rainy afternoon was spent playing some of the games they have on hand. Definitely glad we went!
