About this house rental

What is The Garden Vault? The building dates back to the 1920s and had many different lives, most notably as the business location for the Brinks Armored Car Company for 30 years. Upon purchasing the property in the 1970s, Brinks installed a 14’ by 14’ vault secured by a 12,000 lb. vault door which is still in place, as you can see in our photo slideshow (the vault door is not however within the living space you will occupy). In 2009, Rett’s Landscaping bought the property. Rett’s findings on his travels abroad to Europe and Asia resulted in the antique art pieces that are now housed in the vault. The property’s name is a result of the building’s rich history as home to these two businesses. Additional unique features include sliding barn doors sourced from historic Lexington farms, reclaimed lighting from decommissioned German and British ships, a bathtub and kitchen sink converted from ancient stone feed troughs, and operational fountains throughout the living space. It has all the comforts of home including Pottery Barn bedding and linens, WiFi and a fully equipped kitchen with All Clad cookware. This space is perfect for any type of “event” given the wide indoor/outdoor space and the industrial/commercial appliances. There are place settings for 20 people and parking for up to 4 cars -2 in the front open area of the building and 2 more inside the gated gravel area. Come experience this authentic bit of culture in one of the most charming cities in the American south, Lexington, KY!
PETS: Dogs are permitted with specific approval. Please include the breed and age of your dog in an inquiry prior to booking so that we can consider and approve. $100 pet cleaning fee will apply plus $25 per pet day.
NOTE:
-The office for Rett's Landscaping still occupies the front of the building. The middle section is a garage/storage area and the vault apartment is located at the back of the building. The door to get in is located behind the gates that enclose the gravel parking area.
-The parking area and path to the door is gravel, which makes it a little difficult for rolling luggage and can be tough on footwear!
-For guests who are noise sensitive, it is worth noting this is a downtown location located right off main street so there is some "city noise".
-The bedrooms are side by side and enclosed only by unusual doors (as shown in photos) - one has two barn doors that close together and the other is enclosed by a fogged glass garage style roll down door. Only one of the bedrooms has a closet - the other has a dresser with drawers.

Super great place to stay, with in walking distance of downtown.

A unique property that was such fun to stay in. An extra bedroom would have made it perfect as the living space is extremely large for just 2 double bedrooms.

A very unique property! Clean, well supplied and convenient to restaurants. A tad bit noisy with Hospital near by, but worth the bit of trouble. Owners were accommodating with our request for an extra night stay!

Property was very clean and could be spectacular if it had more a home feel. King bed would be nice. My biggest issue was location. Did not feel completely safe. It had plenty of privacy but stupid me thought I would go for a walk and I got just a block away and did not like the appearance of the people some homeless and I was addressed by two men in a car that scared me terrible. I realize a woman alone and I shouldn’t of ventured but it was one block so the property is next to maybe low income housing. No judgment on that but the two men in the car that drove past and said hey sweet thing did not settle well. I didn’t run but got to safety very very fast and continued to be scared the rest of the stay. Place is unique and would be great for an entertaining group but for a woman alone or woman with kids I wouldn’t recommend unless you are conceal and carry. Tough neighborhood!!! That part scared and saddened me and I have stayed in some large cities alone this was the most unsafe I have ever felt.

This property was great for what we wanted. Only suggestions would be to make main living area a bit more comfortable with more seating, rugs and possibly more art on the walls. Great stay overall though. Highly recommend it.

We enjoyed all the space and quirkiness of this property. It is very well located for seeing Lexington; everything we wanted to do was within an easy drive. There were plenty of towels, the kitchen had everything you need and once you left it run for a while - plenty of hot water. The downsides: The deep gravel yard leading up to the door is very difficult to manage if you are not sure-footed/wearing heels/dragging a roller suitcase. No housekeeping had taken place between the last guests and us - there were dirty/used linens on the beds, dirty dishes in the dishwasher and laundry in the washer and dryer. We had to hunt for additional toilet paper by going through to the attached garden business. And if you enjoy sleeping, bring earplugs; the industrial refrigerator is very, very loud when it cycles on, which it does frequently.

Great place to stay. We celebrated New Years with our son and it had everything we needed to make a great dinner, sit and enjoy the night. Perfect for our dog and if it was warmer and not so rainy we could’ve used the fire pit. Only glitch was we couldn’t get any of the big games on the tv. A suggestion is making sure you have all the apps you need for Roku. Overall great space and hope to come back again.

The property was great for me and the location awesome. It was very quiet and provided a great place for our stay. The gravel is a little hard to walk on would love a stone pathway. Did not get to enjoy the outside but I will rent again when back in Lexington!
