We enjoyed staying at the house. Unfortunately the therm baths where closed during our stay.
We got to experience the annual celebrations of Santa Anna with all the fireworks and parades… which ment getting to bed a bit later on these days.

Small beautiful old house and friendly family. Upper part very hot in the summer. No Aircon. Unfortunately is the outside space not really to use, there is a lot of dog poo and there are serveral screws in the wood floor (I hurt my foot a lot by stepping in one) where the outside table stands. So we could not use it with our small kids.
With rental car you can reach quickly great nature pools, restaurants and parks.

2 friends and myself enjoyed this home very much. Super clean, well laid out, comfy beds, good soundproofing from outside noise, great kitchen, sweet backyard. We could have just hung around the house but the location is too perfect, so be sure to enjoy walking to the garden, thermal baths, restaurants, cheese shop and well, just generally walking the town. The hosts were attentive even though we did not want for a single thing.

Church House was perfect for me and my three teen grandsons to explore Sao Miguel. There was plenty of room to spread out, inside and outside. The kitchen was well equipped, but be sure to buy ground coffee. There is no coffee grinder. The kitchen and bathrooms are modern and very clean. The beds are comfortable. The washer and dryer were great to have and laundry detergent is supplied. I did learn to empty the water reservoir in the dryer into the toilet after every load. I had never seen a dryer like that, but our host walked me through it. There are also instructions near the dryer, which I did not see—but they were in plain sight. During the day, the street is crowded with parked cars because the house is very close to the entrance of Terra Nostra. I had to park several blocks up the street many days and then move the car to the house. You will hear the church bells, but they are pretty and you get used to them. The grounds are lush and private and make a great place to eat meals or sit and read. The village of Furnas is very safe and people are friendly. I let the boys find their way to various bakeries and grocery stores on their own, which they enjoyed very much. I would gladly stay at Church House again and highly recommend it.

My wife and I enjoyed the home and area. The house is very clean but was a bit musty smelling during our stay (it was quite humid and foggy). We were encouraged to use the wood stove for heat to save electricity. The wood was all fairly damp and so took effort to bring loads in to season by the fire and many fire starters to get going each evening. Everything you could need is provided, and the hosts were kind enough to leave a basket with local fruits/ bread for our arrival. The town is small and bell towers charmingly mark the hour and half ours throughout the day and evening. The bells did go into fits of tolling on Saturdays and Sundays here and there- this last Saturday we were convinced kids had snuck in because they tolled for so long and in random patters non-stop. Sundays also mark some local tradition we couldn’t get to the bottom of where three shots are heard in succession throughout the afternoon- not sure what that was about. Heard this in multiple cities on Sundays. The thermal baths up the road are very nice but super busy. I can only recommend trying to get there when they first open. The island is gorgeous and the people are very warm and gracious. We would not hesitate to return.

The place was exactly what we were looking for. Warmly decorated, rustic and cozy with a wood fire stove and a beautiful private back yard garden. Plenty of space. The kitchen was well outfitted and also spacious. It was perfectly located so that we could walk to everything - thermal spa, garden, town center. The guest book helped us make decisions about outings. I would highly recommend it!!!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this lovely and very well equipped home. We arrived to fresh fruit and warm bread. The location was perfect for exploring the island. The communication with the host was very clear and helpful from beginning to end. We felt right at home here and were very comfortable. The back yard is beautiful and private. We loved being right next door to a beautiful church and walking all around town. Thank you for sharing your lovely home.

Furnas home base
This was an excellent base for our stay on Sao Miguel. The house is in a beautiful restored building next to the church with some nice accents and a backyard made for relaxing in. Maria Alexandra went above and beyond while we were here, giving recommendations and even helping me find a restaurant to help celebrate my birthday. Not sure we could have picked a better place to stay.

Spacious and beautiful house in perfect location
The house is beautiful, very spacious and comfortable, although the double bed could be wider. The location is perfect. Unfortunately one of the heaters and the fireplace chimney were not working, but the owner supplied us with a new heater straight away.

We couldn’t really have wanted to stay in a more beautiful house in any other part of the island of San Miguel. As well as being fantastically equipped, full of character and well maintained the house sits in the town of Furnas with easy access to all parts of the island.Furnas and it’s environs is itself breathtakingly beautiful and lush, surrounded by thick forest.
The whole experience gets a five star rating from us.

Casa da igreja is an old house that seems full of history! It is very well decorated and everything needed is there! Even if in town, it is relatively quiet with an amazing garden in the back! Every main attraction of Furnas is easy to walk! We loved our stay!! The owners are also very nice and thoughtful!

Lovely, well-equipped house in great location
Beautiful and spacious house with very well equipped kitchen. Easy walking distance to both thermal spas in town and multiple grocery stores/markets. Our daughter loved the back yard garden. Furnas is lovely town -- best place to stay if hot springs/thermal pools are part of why you are on the island. Great large formal garden in town, a block from the house. Our second time on the island and in Furnas area, but first time at this house. Definitely would stay again and recommend.

Charming house and excellent hosts
We have had a fabulous time in a former priest house in Furnas which was charming renovated for holidays. Especially having breakfast und dinner in the beautiful garden was a highlight every day. The kitchen was equipped with all you need for cooking and baking. Jorge and Alexandra were excellent hosts with a lot of helpful recommendations. We will come back again but before we recommend the house to our friends.

Mr and Mrs
We stayed at Casa da Igreja Velha over the Easter holiday. It is a stylish old house, beautifully maintained in a picturesque part of Furnas. There is plenty of room in the house and a beautiful garden to the rear. We received a very warm and hospitable welcome from our hosts, and they were very helpful during our stay.
This is one of the nicest houses we have ever stayed in.

We could not asked for anything more perfect
The house was fantastic. we stay one week and we could not have asked for anything more perfect. We enjoyed Furnas and also appreciate all the suggestions on place to go on the island. The batting polls were great fun along with the park. The private garden of the house it is a must. A really good time.
