The Cottage was built in the 1940 and was used as a fishing retreat for a wealthy American Doctor.
It has been spruced up with white washed bedrooms and a small updated bathroom.
BOATS and LIFEJACKETS:
There is a paddleboat and canoe available for guest use. If you plan to use the boats, you MUST bring your own life jackets as they need to be specifically fitted to each individual adult, child, infant, and pet wearing them.
PARKING AND THE COTTAGE ROAD:
As the cottage is built so close to the lake, the driveway down to the cottage is fairly steep. There is a dedicated parking spot at the top of the driveway, which is about 100 feet from the cottage, for any guests with 2 wheel drive vehicles. AWD and 4WD vehicles will have no problem getting up and down the driveway. Again please be prepared as it is a steep driveway.
The cottage road is about 5km long with a few steep spots but is very well maintained by the cottage association and travelled daily by all types vehicles. We frequent it with a Honda Civic.
Although the cottage is very private from the road, the surrounding cottage neighbours are very friendly and helpful. A common gesture of friendship is a cold beer.
Acceptable forms of transportation include, two-feet-and-a-heart-beat, ATV, and Bicycle, to name the most common.
There is parking for 2-3 vehicles comfortably. If you need more, please mention that in your request.
TOWNS and SHOPS:
The two nearest towns with grocery and LCBO are Wilberforce & Bancroft, and they are 20 and 30 mins drive from the cottage, respectively.
There are also several LCBO agency locations nearby. Here are a couple that are nearby: Harcourt Gas Station (on 648/Loop Road), Cardiff General Store and Gas Station (on hwy 118).
Bancroft also has the following stores and shops: Canadian Tire, Foodland, Home Hardware, Shoppers Drug Mart, Liquor Store (LCBO), The Beer Store, Tim Horton's, McDonalds, TD Bank, and Subway.
Wilberforce (in the opposite direction of Bancroft) has a grocery store and LCBO (attached to each other), Gas station that sells bait, and a great general store established 100 years ago called Agnews. Agnews has Kawartha Dairy Ice Cream.
It's a 3-hour drive from Toronto Pearson Airport.
BRING DRINKING WATER:
The cottage is on lake water so you MUST bring clean drinking water.
CELLULAR RECEPTION:
Cellular reception has improved over the years and is generally adequate for all carriers, with Telus and Bell being strongest.
We’ve experienced some weak signals and low speeds at different times so don’t count on streaming or gaming. Good opportunity to go offline and take in the breathtaking outdoors.
BRING BED LINENS AND TOWELS:
