About this house rental
We are excited to share our lovely, large (2500 square feet), beautiful home situated right on the St. Louis River. Kayak, canoe, fish, or just enjoy the views from this scenic location. There is a large yard (~1 acre) with great privacy. The sunsets are amazing and the river in this area is very private, gentle, and scenic. The house is located near all the great north shore amenities. It is 10 minutes to Jay Cooke State Park, Spirit Mountain, and the Lake Superior Zoo; 15 minutes to Mont Du Lac, Pattison State Park (largest waterfall in Wisconsin), and only 20 minutes to canal park in Duluth. There are so many great places nearby to hike, mountain bike, fish, frisbee golf, golf, etc. You can access hundreds of miles of 4-wheeler and snowmobile trails from the house, and there are tons of cross-country ski trails nearby. The St. Louis River is known for great walleye, bass, and muskie fishing. It really is an outdoor enthusiast's paradise. The home is a charming 1920s house with high ceilings, great woodwork, and is large enough to comfortably sleep 8-10 people. It has a separate sun room, living room, and dining room, so there is ample space to watch TV, play games, do a puzzle, etc. We also provide a charcoal grill, yard games, a canoe, and 2 kayaks so you can spend the whole day enjoying time at the house if that is your preference. There is parking in the driveway and carport for 4 vehicles. We have a list of our favorite activities and adventures in the area that we share with guests. We love this area so much and hope you will, too!
A few notes about the property so we are sure it will meet your needs and expectations. There are bathrooms on the 2nd floor and basement, but no main floor bathroom. Also, all bedrooms are on the 2nd and 3rd floor. The 3rd floor bedroom is accessed via stairs from a 2nd floor bedroom. There are stairs down to the shoreline of the river, but not too many. There is a train that runs near the house during the day and night, and it does sound it's horn. This could be disturbing to light sleepers. We sleep with the windows closed and some white noise (fans, music, etc.), so it isn't an issue for us. Property is licensed rental with Douglas County, ID #: ALED-CVNMFZ.

Great location and proximity to Duluth and attractions. Beautiful spot on the water with deck and kayaks to use. House is very spacious with lots of various entertaining rooms. It is very dated- floors creak a lot, no central air and window units make for varying levels of cool and humidity throughout. The water is hard with a slight odor and yellowish color. Door knobs are antique and fall off occasionally. Host was very responsive but not great attention to details- a few amenities were missing or running low. Listing does make it clear this property is close to the train- it is a very loud horn and does shake the house when it goes by a few times in the night.

Our family of 8 people had a lovely time! The sun room has a great view of the river and trees. the kayaks and canoe and fire pit were fun to use. The kitchen had space for cooking, and the dining room could accommodate our 8 people. We were thankful for the window air conditioner units.
We were surprised that accessing one double bedroom was through another double bedroom. We must not have seen that in the description or forgotten it, but our grown married kids were good sports about that with their spouses. Not a huge deal. Host Corey was helpful and friendly and prompt with answer replies via email.
Thanks again, Corey!

We had such a great time at this property. It was so peaceful and relaxing. The river was never busy while we were there, so we enjoyed going out on the canoe and kayaks. My boys loved fishing although they unfortunately had no luck. The train was not too bothersome, and it was so neat to watch it go across the bridge. We only wished we could have stayed longer.

Beautiful location that our entire family thoroughly enjoyed! Comfortable house with all the amenities that is perfect for families. Spent much of our time in the gorgeous sun room above the water, and took out the kayaks a few times. Many special touches throughout that add to the experience. We would love to return!

This home was everything we hoped it would be for out vacation. We wanted a location with a view (OMG! The view is amazing!), someplace where the roads were not busy, a location to sit outside and enjoy catching up with friends. We wanted to be outside of Duluth, but not too far out. It took us no time at all to get to all of the locations we planned to visit. And if we forgot anything while in town, it wasnt far to go to get needed items. We will absolutely stay at this location again. Thank you for an amazing stay Corey.

We visited the Duluth/Superior area for the first time and decided to try our first Vrbo as part of the trip.
This was a great getaway / hideaway for us.
The location set outside of Duluth and Superior was exactly what we were looking for.
It was a great escape for vacation, and a wonderful escape after a day of exploring the surrounding area to have a peaceful night together. Certainly more enjoyable than a hotel and sharing it with a whole building's worth of other people. Sitting on the dock and watching the sunset was a great way to end our days.
Corey was very responsive to any communications we sent.
We really appreciate him being very upfront and thorough about everything, including the somewhat frequent rail traffic and the horns to go with it.
Watching the trains cross the trestle in daylight was interesting in its own way. At night we turned a fan or AC unit on and slept without issue.
We enjoyed exploring both Duluth and Superior, nearby state parks, and different spots to take in the views of Lake Superior. We never felt like we had to drive "too far" from the property to do any of those things. It felt fairly central to everything we were looking to do.
I gave fishing off the dock a try. No luck in hooking any fish, but that is most likely due to my skills.
We picked well with our first Vrbo. If/when we are visiting the area again, we'll certainly be checking if this is available again!

There was ample space and activities for our entire family. Some wanted to “chill” and watch television while others wanted to enjoy the water. Plenty of tourist attractions within a short drive and a pub within walking distance. Life doesn’t get much better!!

Our experience was fantastic. The house was very clean and we enjoyed the location on the river. It was easy to go kayaking and fish off the dock. It was in a smaller residential area but close enough to drive into Duluth and visit popular spots like the Zoo. There were a lot of trains that went by, but the owner warned us about that beforehand and also provided earplugs. Overall, it was great!

We met up here with my parents and siblings for a family reunion, and everyone was impressed with the place. The house was even bigger than expected and full of character. Our favorite spots were the sunroom and the area down by the lake. The train bridge is so cool. We enjoyed watching the trains go by, and driving under the trains on the bridge was a fun experience. There is so much to do in this area. We explored Duluth and the north shore of Lake Superior.

This was a beautiful home that all of my friends and I loved staying in. It was very spacious and the sights were absolutely amazing right off the river. I was told about the trains that go by but honestly my buddies and I sleep like the dead so we didn’t hear the trains unless we were about to wake up. I will say that there were lots of lady bugs! The place was very clean other than the little roommates we had but none of us truly minded :) Thank you for letting us stay in your wonderful home!

Our family took a weekend away to enjoy all the Christmas activities in Duluth. The kids and big kids enjoyed the darts and foosball table. The dining room table was perfect for game night. The kids enjoyed watching the train through the sun room and ran to see it each time the it went over the trestle. The home was very homey, large and accommodating. The river views were spectacular to watch the sunset. All and All the home was exactly what we needed to have a wonderful Christmas get together.

Owner was a great communicator, was very honest about the frequency of the trains.
Enjoyed fishing off the dock!
Overall, a very pleasant stay in a beautiful old home

The house was perfect for our group. I loved the charm and all of the wood details characteristic of an older home. We hit the fall colors right as they were nearing their peak so everything was just beautiful!
We did wake to the train a few times the first couple of nights but by our last night we were sleeping through the horn.
Corey was excellent to work with and very responsive to my multiple questions as we prepared for the trip. Overall we were very happy with the house, the listing was accurate to what we experienced. I think the house would be really gray in the summer right on the river as it is. It may not be great for really small kids due to the stairs and sunken hearth room but our two year old managed the stairs ok.

The location was exactly right for our trip. Easy access to Duluth and Superior. The views of the river are AMAZING! We loved the character of the historical home so much. Very quiet and peaceful street. The trains did wake me up in the night but I was always able to fall back asleep quickly due to the comfortable beds.
We had no problem locating the house and the homeowner was very quick to communicate with me with any questions I had or to offer suggestions of things to do. Our favorite spot inside the house was the sunroom. We also enjoyed playing cards around the dining table in the evening. Our favorite spot outside of the house was the dock down by the water. There are steps going down to them but were not difficult for us. We enjoyed our coffee down there every morning while we made our plans for the day. We’d definitely come back!

From the moment we arrived it felt like home! This beautiful house comes stocked with all you need for your stay. The house has so much character, was very clean and well organized. The owners are soooo nice and easy to get ahold of, and really aim to make your stay as comfortable as possible. My husband and I enjoyed our stay in this quiet little area, not far from duluth and so much to do! Trains do go by, but that was not something that bothers us and could hardly hear unless in the sun room. If your looking for a place to stay...choose this house, you won't regret it!
