About this apartment rental
Just a short walk from the famous Beatrix Potter House, Tower Bank Arms pub and local walks and delights, a stay at our Esthwaite Howe converted farmyard will certainly not disappoint. The property may be small, but mighty in space and in light. The kitchen opens up into the living in dining area, making a social teatime easy. As you exit the property you will be greeted by the views spanning across the surrounding fields, including the outdoor communal eating area just over the stone wall which you can use at your leisure. All of our Esthwaite Howe apartments are fitted with a kitchen with an oven, microwave, kettle and toaster, as well as basic cooking utensils and cutlery, etc. Each bathroom also has a heated towel rail and clothes airer. The communal laundry facilities with both washer and dryer are found to the right-hand side of the courtyard as you enter, which guests are welcome to use at their leisure. Do not hesitate to be in touch if you have any questions and we will be more than happy to help. The Esthwaite cottages are in a beautiful setting and clean with the things you need. Although some facilities were a little tired looking you have everything you need while on holiday and it s dog friendly. Sadly the cafe on the lake within a short walking distance is closing but the lake has given us many hours of pleasure for years so I hope at least the path to walk there and an area to sit will be maintained.

Pleasantly furnished accommodation in a tranquil setting. Ideal for anyone wanting peace and quiet and really good for the dog!

Checked in for a 2 night stay and while the cottage is very dated it was clean and would have been fit for purpose for what we needed while we were staying there. The kitchen was well equipped and the other amenities were of good standard. Unfortunately we were on the ground floor and although it does mention may be subject to noise this would only not be the case if the upstairs property was empty. We had guests above us and could hear everything from them walking up and down, talking, their tv, getting up during the night and early at morning (likely vice versa they would have been able to hear us too) perhaps it is luck of the draw who is above you but the guests above us moved around so much and we’re up during the night and their bedroom was right above ours so this resulted in very little and disturbed sleep. Unfortunately due to this on the first night we decided to go home early and did not stay the second night as it would have been much of the same. We found it quite hard to relax and settle when we were so aware of a strangers every move and worrying if they can hear us too.
It is actually quite a shame as the village of near sawrey is beautiful and the grounds/shared garden/view of esthwaite were beautiful so it could have been a lovely trip away if we didn’t have guests above us but unfortunately that would never be guaranteed and wouldn’t be good business to stop people booking upstairs cottages, however I’m afraid it has stopped up from wanting to return.
It’s great that the cottages are dog friendly and as mentioned there is a large shared garden which is great for the dogs to run around but unless you are the noisy ones or can sleep like the dead then I feel like this property may not be for everyone.

Overall I enjoyed my stay in the cottage. The place was comfortable and clean, the beds were very comfortable. There was plenty of hot water and the bathroom was very well appointed. There was a good range of kitchen utensils. The view of the lake and the surroundings was really nice with a couple of pubs and restaurants were within a short walk.
Couple of issues, my wife went to use the Graythwaite pool and was told people staying in the Coniston cottage could not use the pool as this was reserved for cottages around the pool. This seemed like a very odd rule, I don't see why all people staying on the Graythwaite estate can't use the pool? I would have thought adding a note to say people staying at this cottage can't access the pool seems an important point.
Another small point, it would be nice to have a little basket of items for when you arrive, perhaps a few tea bags and sachets of coffee would be handy.

The location is outstanding. The apartment is near beautiful Esthwaite water and there is a wide variety of lakeshore, forest or fell walks in the surrounding area directly from your doorstep.
The apartment was very clean and extremely comfortable, especially the beds. The kitchen was clean and well equipped in terms of crockery and utensils. However there is no dishwasher and the fridge is very small and hard to access.
This is more of an apartment than a cottage but it has character with its thick walls and arched windows. While the windows on the outside could do with a paint, the inside is fresh and well maintained. It is also practical with laminate flooring everywhere apart from the cosy bedrooms. It is a spacious, well proportioned and practical living space and as it is all on one floor, it is all very easy. There is ample parking space directly outside. The only real downside was poor customer service regarding an issue with WiFi access. The system of registering for access is flawed as the WiFi is too slow for you to get the email with the access code within the 5 mins granted of free WiFi access! Wheelwrights cottages tried hard to resolve the issue which was finally resolved on day 6.The other slight issue was noise of the visitors moving around the apartment above
