We were looking forward to this stay but quickly realized some of the previous reviews were correct. For $400 a night, one would expect a clean room, clean sheets, and a shower that drains properly but instead our door combo didn’t work and we had to request several times for assistance because they were more concerned about trick or treaters than their paying guest. Our bathroom had several bugs in it but literally no one is working between 9pm and 1130am. The overview should say that it’s a b and b because the accommodations aren’t there. Our shower didn’t drain and when we told a member of staff, she just said “oh”. No apology or anything. Again… $400 a night! And finally, there were stains on the duvet that looked like blood.

The decor and ambiance are great, very close to Salem and friendly staff. The outside traffic is very loud. The elevator only goes to the 2nd floor and our room was on the 3rd. Also, when we went to get in bed we found the sheets covered in black hairs. I was able to find someone to get me clean ones so I could remake the bed...not exactly what I wanted to be doing at 10pm.

Couldn’t be happier. Cozy, clean, friendly staff and good food in The Cellar.

Beautiful room, beautiful building, and the people/service was amazing and friendly!

Very clean and comfortable room; this is no chain that tries to lipstick a pig - this is a gorgeous and clean little mom and pop. Places like this are a true gem. Staff was incredibly friendly. Probably the cleanest hotel I've ever stayed in; felt like home. Excellent dining on-site, no need to even leave. Plenty of options close by if you do however. Worth it.

Nicely recently renovated. Light breakfast was appreciated. The building is on a busy corner and there was some noise and traffic but it died down by 11pm.

Our stay at the Bell Inn and Tavern was terrible.
We booked our room nearly 4 months in advance, as we were scheduled for an important event nearby. Since we had an early call time the next day, we had planned on spending time in the Bell Inn’s Cellar the evening before our event. We were looking forward to it.
None of that happened. Upon checking in we were informed that a wedding reception would be taking place in the Cellar that night and it would be unavailable. We had a quick lunch at the bar, only to find the staff extremely stressed with wedding preparations, and thus bordering on hostile. We left for several hours. When we returned back to the hotel after dinner at 9:25 pm, we were informed that last call at the bar was at 9:30 pm.
As a result, we ended up back in our room (204) by 10pm, only to find that our room was directly above the Cellar and its patio. Consequently, there were dozens of loud drunken people celebrating less than 10 feet from our window.
When we went downstairs to see if we could be moved to another room, we were told it wasn’t possible. In fact, other than a disingenuous “apology”, nothing was possible to improve the situation. We were offered nothing. We were told that they would try to quiet people down, but obviously that didn’t last because people celebrating at a wedding reception are there to have a good time.
In the end, we spent hours stuck in an incredibly loud room, as uninvited and involuntary participants in someone else’s wed

The Bell Inn was recently renovated and the accommodations were beautiful. Extremely comfortable and spotless. The lounge and outdoor patio with live entertainment made it extra special and fun.

No dining room breakfast in the morning.
Simply a banana, boxed sweets
and Keurig coffee.
Location is not the nicest area.
Room was lovely.
Staff was friendly. Only big plus is the driving proximity to Salem. Was hoping to be able to walk around the area, not an option.
Otherwise, inn itself was pleasant.

The Bell Inn is a very nice hotel. We stayed only 1 night, so did not get to experience all of the amenities. However, check in was very smooth, the staff was excellent and the complimentary coffee and breakfast was a nice benefit. The surrounding area was calm, although a short drive was necessary to get to any activities. It is a great place to stay when visiting Boston or Salem. I would come back and spend a few more nights in the future.

Great staff, Tavern and Room. Area around wasn’t great but cheap Ubers to Salem and surrounding. My daughter and I would stay again.

Our stay was perfect in every way! The staff was incredible, the food was amazing and the accommodations were superb. I actively seek out old houses converted into hotels and the restoration was very well done. All of the modern amenities with old world charm. I also want to give a special shout out to Megan, the hospitality manager. She went above and beyond. I can tell she really loves working here and she treats her guests like great friends. Thank you so much for an incredible experience!

Wow, what a perfect little Inn and Tavern! We had the perfect stay. The room was newly renovated, very clean, and there was a common living area on our level where they served pastries and fruit for breakfast, along with juice, coffee and water. We arrived late and called to place an order before the Tavern closed. They said they would be happy to wait for us or we could order and it would hot and ready when we arrived. The manager helped us with the menu and we had a fantastic meal. I would come back to the area just to stay here. Thank you!

The Bell Inn is a lovely, beautifully restored inn! We loved everything about our stay, even got to talk with the owner and she told us how her son restored the old house back into something beautiful! Definitely stay here if you get a chance, the room was clean, quiet and comfortable. We stayed with our two young kids (2 and 6) and my mother in law and it was a wonderful visit. The food in the restaurant downstairs is amazing and the drinks in the cellar bar were delicious! Bartender was lovely and the live music was perfect! We truly enjoyed our stay and wished we had stayed longer. Breakfast pastries in the second floor common area was a great added touch! If we ever make it back to the Salem area, we will absolutely stay here again!

One of the best hotels we ever stayed in. Had so much charm you couldn’t contain it! The staff were super friendly and helpful. They made my picky daughter a root beer float that wasn’t on the menu. The 2nd floor had a balcony to hang out and an upstairs living where we enjoyed a couple glasses of wine. There was a great pizza place across the street called the Gallo Nero and a McDonald's close by. If you are in area, must stay here!!the outdoor courtyard area was a great place to relax! We got lucky with front row parking and never had to drive anywhere. We only stayed for one night but it was nice to stay in a place that had so much history in it and was beautifully updated inside, especially in the bedrooms and bathrooms!

Heather was so kind upon check-in and helped me to feel right at home.
Courtney at the restaurant went above and beyond to help me with making the most of my trip.
The whole staff is really ready to help you feel cared for after a travel day as rough as mine was. They made me feel like I was in heaven.

The inn is beautiful and the restaurant is excellent. People were very professional and nice. The room was too warm and the bathroom didn't seem to have a fan/vent. Air cond. was a problem.

This venue is beautiful and comfortable and historic! Centrally located to all we wanted to see in the Boston area, I can’t recommend it highly enough. Please order the baked halibut, you will not be disappointed!!

Grand historic building renovated to to modern standards. Exceptionally clean, and expertly renovated to meet modern standards. Carpet, floors, walls, windows, every thing spotless. We loved the restaurant and bar downstairs.

Loved the property itself. The staff is wonderful. It is located on a busy corner and there’s street traffic noise 24/7. Other than that…it’s a wonderful place.

What a gem right in Salem!

We arrived and we're told we were upgraded from the standard room I booked into the Lexington Suite. This was the nicest biggest most well appointed hotel room I have ever seen. The shower alone was worth the cost of the room. The bathroom is bigger then my bedroom growing up. Megan the GM was very helpful and the neighborhood was nice and very walkable. I'd give it a 150 out of 10 and would stay again in a heartbeat.

This place is so beautiful! When we booked I didnt know the rooms were above a Tavern . But it was wonderful! The restaurant is so classy and the staff was so friendly. I will come back to the area and stay here again. The tavern closes early so very quiet at night.

Amazing stay. Bed frame needed to be fixed but it was a super comfy bed. Pretty sure the kids loved the hotel more than the rest of the trip.
