About this cottage rental
Forder Cottage is situated in a beautiful, quiet rural location in Dartmoor National Park with all the stunning hiking, biking and exploring opportunities this offers on our doorstep. Furthermore, the beautiful sandy beaches and watersport opportunities of the South Hams are just a 25 minute drive away.
The space
Forder Cottage is a spacious traditional 3 bedroom cottage that we have recently renovated for our guests to enjoy. You will have sole use of the cottage together with the garden area. We are situated down a quiet Devon lane less than a mile away from the picturesque village of South Brent.
On the ground floor there is a fully equipped kitchen with electric oven, hob, dishwasher and refrigerator. The dining room has a stunning rustic farmhouse table in front of a large fireplace with wood burning stove. The sitting room has a TV with comfortable chairs and a sofa for you to wind down after busy days on the moor or at the beach. A small boot room /utility area with a washer/dryer completes the downstairs.
Upstairs, bedroom 1 has a comfortable classic King size double bed. Bedroom 2 is flexible being available either as 2 separate singles or they can be zipped together to form a super-king. (Our default is as 2 singles so please confirm in the booking section if you would like it made up as a super-king double.) The third bedroom has a single bed with a pull out trundle should you need it. Please note that this would be a slight squeeze but possible for an extra child if needed.
There is a parking area for two small cars or one large car immediately outside the front door. Through the gate there is a small garden area with patio, table and chairs.
Guest access
Full exclusive access to the whole cottage and small garden to the side.
There is parking for two cars directly outside the front door.
Our house is directly behind the cottage should you have any problems or questions.
Other things to note
This is a fantastic base for a family to explore the area so we are very happy for young families to stay. We have three small children ourselves so can provide you with extra bits and pieces such as a travel cot and high chair if needed. The cottage also has a small selection of toys, books and children's cutlery.
You are welcome to use our old tarmac tennis court for free within our garden next door. Please contact us during your stay to book a suitable time.
The cottage is within Dartmoor National Park. The start of the popular Avon Dam walk is just 5 minutes away together with the moors and all that Dartmoor has to offer.
The cottage is within 30 minutes of several beautiful beaches. Mothecombe beach is our favourite and is very family friendly, perfect for sandcastle building, rock pool fishing and shallow waters for paddling. Don't forget to finish the day with a visit to the Surfing Cow ice cream farm next door to complete the perfect beach day! For those with older children or looking for more action, Bantham and Bigbury beaches offer great sandy beaches but also the potential for some good surfing and kiting too. Sailing is available at the picturesque fishing village of Newton Ferrers or Salcombe, both about 30mins away.
We welcome one well behaved small dog but please note that this will incur an additional charge of £25. A second dog may be considered so please contact us to discuss.
Please ensure the dog remains downstairs only and off all furniture. If they have been out for a walk please ensure that they are clean and mud free before leaving the boot room. We do expect you to fully clean up after your dog both inside and out. You are responsible for your dog's safety and security. There is the occasional passing car or tractor along the lane.
For shopping, South Brent is less than a mile away and has a small supermarket, village shop, butcher, delicatessen and pub together with a fish & chip shop.
Totnes is 15 mins away and has a fantastic high street with a great range of independent shops together with a Morrisons supermarket. From here you can also take scenic boat trips along the stunning river Dart to the coastal town of Dartmouth.
There is a log burning stove in the dining room for your use during the colder months. A supply of logs will be provided inside at the start and you can help yourselves to further from the stack at the front door.
