About this house rental
Prepare to be enchanted by The Witchnest at Clatterway Hill in Bonsall. This charming cottage was built in 1876, set against a backdrop of wooded hillside with an ornate spring-fed well at the front of the cottage – Witchnest really is something from a fairytale.
The stone-built, two bedroom cottage has an open fire, original beams and stone mullioned windows. Recently renovated to provide all the modern comforts expected by holiday guests – you are sure a warm Derbyshire Welcome.
Bedroom one has a king sized bed, a desk, seating and clothes storage space as well as a feature fireplace, window seat and a wonderful view.
Bedroom two can be either 2 x single beds or a double bed, there is also clothes storage and a window seat looking out towards the village.
Downstairs you have a fully equipped kitchen with dining space and a comfortable and charming lounge with log burner.
Outside you have seating and private parking.
Bonsall is a pretty village in the Derbyshire Dales on the edge of the Peak District.
Bonsall is about 5 miles (8 km) from Matlock and about 18 miles (29 km) from Derby. Bonsall has a long history of lead mining, along with its neighboring town of Wirksworth, probably going back to Roman times, and is recorded in the Domesday Book. The approach to the village is via a steep hill leading up from Via Gellia (now the A5012 road) and nearby Cromford. The road is called the Clatterway.
Bonsall has 2 pubs, both well loved by locals and within walking distance of Witchnest Cottage.
The village lies on the edge of the Peak District National Park, the border of which bisects the 'Uppertown' suburb. The village is on the Limestone Way, at the head of its branch to Matlock, and on the Peak District Boundary Walk.
Parts of St James the Apostle's Church, Bonsall date from the 13th century.
There is a market cross in the village centre that may date from the Middle Ages. The ball on top was added in 1671.
Bonsall is most well known for i's annual hen race and many UFO sightings (some say Bonsall is the UFO capital of Britain!)
You have private free parking right outside the cottage (with a private EV charging point). The parking space is large enough for 2 vehicles.
We highly recommend a car to visit the many wonderful attractions in the area, however there is also a good public transport links from Bonsall - buses going to Matlock (where there is a train station), Wirksworth, Bakewell and Derby.
