About this apartment rental
Summary:
Alvarado Street is located on the East End of the quaint town of Dauphin Island, Alabama’s beautiful barrier island situated just off the renowned Gulf Coast. This newly renovated condominium offers the perfect lodging for families, fishermen and snowbirds looking to unwind and enjoy miles of white sandy beaches, fresh Gulf Coast seafood and world-class deep sea fishing and diving.
The Space:
In 2019, Alvarado underwent a complete renovation where the condo was stripped down to its bones and redesigned with stylish finishes and décor that echoed the natural elements of the island. The condo is now adorned with shiplap in every room, a main staple in seaside design, and is decorated with coastal-inspired furniture, art and accents in the living rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms. Each kitchen has stainless steel appliances, granite countertops and a fully stocked kitchen for guests looking to cook up their fresh catch of the day for dinner.
With 20’ vaulted ceilings, the nautical bedrooms offer guests with a spacious retreat to recharge at the end of a long day on the water. The master bedroom has a flat screen TV and a king sized bed with a roomy closet, and the bunk room has two sets of bunk beds that offer a cozy space to retire in for the night.
Although we don’t have direct waterfront access, Alvarado offers vacationers partial views of Mobile Bay, and sits in the ideal location for people looking for convenient access to the East End.
Guest Access:
This unit is located on the top left of the condo building. It has an upper deck with a dedicated outdoor table and chairs, as well as a set of Adirondack chairs for lounging. The neighboring unit on the top level shares the upper deck but has its own set of patio furniture. Parking is available directly in front of the condos. The closest beach access is just a mile away!
The Neighborhood:
The 164-acre Audubon Bird Sanctuary is less than a 10-minute walk (.3 miles) from the steps of Alvarado. The sanctuary is a well-known destination for birdwatchers in search of one of the hundreds of species that live in and migrate through the sanctuary year-round, such as herons and pelicans. Visitors can take a walking tour though the palmetto palms where they can experience the birds in the lush native flora and fauna of the island.
The Mobile Bay Ferry is located just around the corner from Alvarado, just a 2-mintue drive or a 7-minute walk (.4 miles). The ferry, which departs every hour and a half during the day, transports passengers to the historic Fort Morgan located in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
Just past the ferry is a popular boat launch on the island, where anglers launch their boats sunrise to sundown. Boat trailer parking for the boat launch can be tricky, especially during summer months, so Alvarado’s close proximity to the launch makes it an ideal location for anglers because of the extended boat parking offered to guests. Each unit can accommodate one boat trailer in addition to their parking.
The Dauphin Island Estuarium, an aquarium that is home to more than 100 different species of native Alabama marine life, and the historic Fort Gaines, where you can find guided tours of the 1821 fort that protected Mobile Bay during the Civil War, are both located within one mile of the property as well. There are three public beaches on Dauphin Island — the East End Public Beach, Bienville Beach and the West End Public Beach. The closest beach access to Alvarado is the East End Beach, which a little more than a mile away from Alvarado past Fort Gaines (a 5-minute drive or 20-minute walk).
With the almost dozen restaurants and snack bars on the island, there’s no shortage of local fare and fresh seafood. Almost every menu on the island serves up the freshest seafood in the South, including freshly caught snapper, grouper, oysters and crab. During the summer there are outdoor movies shown on the West End of the island, and the Dauphin Island Fishing Rodeo during July brings more than 75,000 spectators to the island for a weekend of fun and sports fishing.
Even though the island is small (it’s only 14 miles long and less than 2 miles wide or less, in some areas), it offers an endless amount of activities for vacationers, including an 18-hole golf course and endless water activities. Boat, jet ski, stand-up-paddleboard and kayak rentals are available, as well as sunset cruises and beach access to most of the 17 miles of powder, white sand beaches that wrap around the island. These offerings, in addition to deep-sea fishing and diving, make this Gulf Coast sanctuary one of the top destinations for those looking to escape the crowds and enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the gulf.
We hope you enjoy your stay at Alvarado and enjoy exploring the beautiful Alabama Gulf Coast during your visit!

We spent over two weeks at the property and it was a great property. Well appointed with great seating, comfortable beds, and large TVs in the Living and the Master. This would make a great property for a young family to stay at. The kitchen and seating area would be great for the stay-in meals. Property owners were great to work with and very communicative! Overall a great stay!!

This was a very nice unit, conveniently located near the Aquarium. It had everything you needed to make your stay easy. Plenty of pots and pans, plates even thought we didn't cook while we were there. The master bed was a little more firm than I liked, but not bad. My only suggestion for the manager would be to at least leave 1 laundry pod, since you had to start the towels used before you left. We we're only there 2 nights so I didn't bring any laundry detergent.
Would definitely stay there again if I go back. Thank you!

This is the second time staying here. Very clean, convenient property. Plan on staying here again on our next fishing trip.

Good condo but when we arrived at the condo, it smelled of pet urine and the air conditioner was not working properly and it didn’t get resolved till after 5 pm on our last day. So 1st night was not pleasant and we couldn’t stay in condo during the day as it was cooler outside than inside. So the money we spent was basically thrown away. Nice place but for what we paid it basically ruin the trip for my wife and I.

A simple picture of the front of the units would have been very helpful. Once we got to the location they had more units on ground floor entrance. In the listing I had no idea that it had any other units that were on the ground floor and I would have have inquired about those. Money was not an issue but accessible was! I suggested a photo for that reason. If they do not take a front photo I would not rent this again. We had a wonderful time, one restaurant was exceptional and very reasonable. That was the Islander. The Lighthouse Bakery was delicious. Those are the only 2 I would recommend.

Loved the location of the property. It was nice and quiet. Just two suggestions. The bed in the master is very uncomfortable. I ended up sleeping on the coach. Highly recommend changing out mattress. Kitchen needs a deep cleaning. I had to wipe down cabinets. I also wiped down bathroom door. A good, deep cleaning should be all that is needed. Everything else was fine. Thanks!

It was perfect for what we needed. It was so close to the sea lab classrooms, east beach, and Fort Gaines. It was very pet friendly too.

This property was great… nice spot on Dauphin Island. The town is a little difficult to manage for evening meals as most places that were open would state they were booked with reservations. This was true for multiple places… and when asked, they would state local usually book 1- 2 weeks in advance. Since we were merely visiting for a week, we were forced to leave the island for meals that we did not prepare ourselves. Again, cute cottage, but likely will not vacation in Dauphin Island again as it was not friendly to our travel habits.

The kitchen was the hub as we ordered groceries online ahead of time from Walmart on Rangeline Road in Mobile and stopped to pick them up on the way and prepared most meals. The decor is tastefully coastal. There are restaurants on the Island and shopping so do check those out. The host provided a notebook with good information. We visited Skinner's seafood market for fresh shrimp. We visited Greer's grocery as well.

Great place to stay and enjoy beaches. Very close to boat ramp and beaches. We cooked all our meals and the kitchen was great. Plates/cups ect were enough to accommodate a family of 5. Unit had their own washer/dryer. Nice relaxing living room with huge TV which is easy to log into. Bird Sanctuary is within walking distance and there were hoses outside to wash off sand. The units were all full during our stay and it was still peaceful. This was a top unit so we didn't hear anyone. Nice deck to relax on and ample parking. We had a waver runner trailer, truck and SUV and everyone still had room to park. Beach towels provided and kitchen had some basic supplies. Easy checkin/out. Great stay!
All around great place.

The property was wonderful and well maintained. We enjoyed our stay and loved being so close to the public beach and other attractions. We rented a golf cart and spent most of our days cruising the island & laying on the beach. Just a wonderful and overall relaxing time. The stove definitely gets very hot so watch what you’re cooking closely. The AC stays very cool and kept up with the terrible heat outside. Wonderful place and we had an amazing time.

The condo was as listed and I would definitely recommend to others, with one note based on preference. Considering all the reviews we read were amazing (and made no mention of discomfort) we assume it’s just us that found the bed to be extremely uncomfortable. I mean my husband slept on the couch every single night (which was actually a very comfortable couch) and I pretty much just didn’t sleep. The mattress was very stiff and squeaky, but again no other reviewers mentioned this that I saw, so perhaps it’s a preference thing? I wouldn’t even leave a review because we were happy with the place besides that, except that I really wished another renter (who maybe likes a soft bed) had mentioned it so we would have known. We did love being close to the bird sanctuary so that was a big plus and the place is decorated cute and coastal.
