Parking is inconvenient, access to lobby is convoluted, no help with luggage. Snobbery was on display within the building. The "club" mentality is old fashioned and comical. Room was large, noisy streets below, tiny bathroom with zero counter space. Breakfast was limited and meh. Would not recommend.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights and we really loved this hotel. The location was perfect and it was easy to walk anywhere in the city. Our room was very comfortable and clean. It was very warm the day we were in Victoria and our room got a little bit warm overnight, but we were OK with the fan provided. The only downside was we needed to have the windows open for cool air and so in the morning we were woken by the sun and the seagulls. The seagulls are very loud in the city.
We loved exploring the hotel, which is so beautiful. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful with any questions we had about the city. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone, who is staying in Victoria!

Very quiet and relaxed atmosphere. Great after a long day walking the busy streets. Perhaps too quiet for most but I as exactly what I was looking for.

No Air conditioner, mildew in bath, no outlets to charge phones, bed too hard, elevator floor uneven which made it difficult to roll carts in or out of elevator. Need screens on windows. Parking an issue, got ticket across the street when I was only 4 mins late. Do not recommend others to stay there. Too many rules to stay there.

The Union Club still exudes the atmosphere of a gentleman's club of the English Empire with its beautiful and overwhelming wood finishes, room layouts, quiet atmosphere, and service. You'll see dedications to the heroes of WWI and portraits of the king and Winston Churchill. It also has a snooker room that appeared to be in use most of the time. The food service and quality is good and our suite was very comfortable and upgraded. Wifi worked throughout the club. Showers had hot water and good pressure. With any club, there are rules and they are strict about their dress code and security. Most of all, its location is primo.

Yes to rats, no to hats. So first off I would like to say this hotel has comfy beds and is in a perfect location. The stuffiness, and the fact they did not want us there, was off putting.
I am not young, I am 43, but when I walked in the door I felt like a teenager breaking into my grandparents library. We followed the dress code, but it would shift slightly based on who we were. An example of that was that they specifically did not allow baseball caps. So I wore a jaunty newsboy hat. I was approached by staff, "We do not allow hats in the Union Club." Ok, then say that in your rules. "We do not allow hats", is much easier and clearer statement than saying we do not allow a specific hat. Then walks in a 70 , probably member, wearing a terrible and cheap looking tan ball cap. He walks in, sits down, no one says anything or approaches them. We saw a few examples of that. 70 guy walking in wearing all sweats, but we couldn't wear nice sneakers. Double standards, cause kids these days.
Every time we walked in the wait staff, would look at us like we broke in and were not in the right place. Then would simply ignored us. Even when I was able to flag the waiter down he walked away before my wife could order a drink, which then we had to stop him to ask for her order. Definitely had an error that woman should better be seen. The drink was amazing though, best Old Fashioned I had on the trip. Exterminate the mice, you are a place with food. Traps aren't enough.

What did we like:
1) Located right in the Victoria downtown. If you arrive by Ferry, you can walk to the hotel.
2) Royal BC Museum, Legislative assembly of British Columbia, Fisherman's Wharf, Victoria Pier, Miniature World, Empress Hotel National Historic Site of Canada, Government Street and Victoria Bug Zoo are all walkable from the hotel.
3) The check-in time was 4 pm. We arrived at 10:15 am. We went to the hotel to ask them to hold our luggage. But they told us the room is ready and we can check-in if we want. So, we got our room keys at 10:15 am itself.
4) The lady at the reception was super nice and very helpful. Customer service was quite amazing.
What didn't we like:
1) We paid $20 (Canadian dollars) per day for parking, but we got a parking spot in a public garage that is a few blocks away. The problem is, it is a gated parking lot and there is no attendant on the weekends. The hotel has only two key cards to go in or out of the garage that is a few blocks away. So, every time you have to take your car out or to park it during weekends, you have to go to the hotel and get the keycard from the reception and then bring it back immediately (because they have only 2 access cards).
2) There is no Microwave in the hotel room.
3) If you do not wear formal shoes and buttoned up shirts with a collar, you cannot use their on-premise restaurant or reading area. But they do have some shoes and shirts that you can borrow if you want to use these facilities.

The front desk staff were amazing. The property is so quaint and the original artwork in common areas was impressive. I would recommend mentioning to guests that there is a dress code for the dining room. I was in town for a running race and had not brought anything other than jeans, a nice sweater and my Blundstones.

Great liocation, but the room did not match the description or photos and was in need of a refresh. The common areas were nice, but the smell of fish from the resturant could be smelled throughout the common areas and first floor. Friendly staff, nice reading room.

Charming building but full if mice on 1st floor. Great coffee/tea service, reading room, library, and locker rooms. Big room but pricey on value.
