I had a mix of experiences during my recent three-night stay at the Shanghai Edition.
On the positive side, the staff were consistently courteous and helpful throughout my visit. Their professionalism was a highlight, as they made a real effort to ensure that guests felt welcome. The hotel is conveniently located at the Bund, just a stone's throw away from a bunch of famous restaurants. The room design is sleek and modern, in line with the usual standards at The Edition.
However, there were significant drawbacks. I had the "Do Not Disturb" sign on during my stay and did not require housekeeping. Despite this, I was awakened by a phone call from the front desk one afternoon while I was napping due to jet lag, asking if I needed housekeeping. This felt utterly ridiculous and infuriating, as I had clearly indicated my desire for privacy.
Additionally, the walls in the rooms were extremely thin, which meant that I could hear every word of the music being played in my neighboring room, as well as all the noises from people coming and going in the hallway. I assume the hotel is aware of this issue, as they provide earplugs in the room. I would highly recommend using them.
The rooms themselves also had some practical issues, such as the lack of a full-length mirror and a very small vanity area, which made getting ready a bit inconvenient.

Excellent hotel in the center of Shanghai. View from the roof is amazing: all of the Bund and lights of Pudong. Design is tasteful and contemporary without being over the top. Quiet luxury. Rooms are comfortable with excellent beds. Employees were super helpful, generally no problem to communicate. Highly recommended.

The Shanghai Edition has a superb location, great facilities, and a terrace with a “to die for” view, but what settles this hotel apart is its staff. Always attentive, aimed to please and ready to solve any “challenge”. Benjamin being the concierge extraordinaire, will make you feel right at home and make your stay an unforgettable one. He will give you the best recommendations and will help avoid tourists traps. He is a gem and The Shanghai Edition must keep him at all costs. P.S Their brunch is top notch and a must try. As a seasoned travel, with demanding tastes, that has had the luck to see the world, I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Shanghai 🤗

Great hotel, rooms, and staff. On weekends lobby can be busy and noisy.
Convenient location especially close to the Bund (great rooftop views).
Taxi drop off area however can be hard to find and inconvenient for baggage loading. Valet/bell hop services can be improved for guests. We got in at night and valet did not have any luggage trolley to help carry luggage into the front desk.

The hotel location / access is not the easiest.
Their is not real lobby convenient for meetings.
The breakfast is mediocre.
No espresso coffee machine in room
Rooms are not large.
Shower area and design is not well thought about and has some functioning problems.
With all there - the services and attention from stuff is excellent.
I recommend rather to tourist and young people for more of an exploration stay.

Checked in on 12/23 around 6PM. for a 4 night stay
Was assigned a room, and I asked if there was higher floors available. NONE was available
Went to my assigned room, and the room smell was just foul. Smells like bad plumbing or someone use the bathroom not too long ago..
Called receptionist about the smell, they came up and brought us to a higher floor that we originally requested.
This is unacceptable for a $350+ a night room in Shanghai, In a city where I have plenty of other options.
1. The lack of sincere accommodation to my request especially on a 4 day stay.
2. The awful smell, how are rooms released to customer with that smell??
