Very small and noisy room for a very expansive price.

I booked this stay for my two colleagues and while they both said they had overall decent stay, one of them had a large complaint when he checked in. JK Lyons was given his room key and upon arriving in the room, he noticed that the room was already occupied by a woman. Luckily, she wasn't present (as that would have made this situation a lot worse) but to make such a huge mistake when giving someone their room access is very disappointing from a reputable hotel. When notifying the man at the front desk they he provided a room key to a woman's room, he was incredibly rude and hostile toward my colleague. He didn't take responsibility or apologize for such a huge error. Had the woman been present, that could have resulted in a lawsuit. The next day my colleague told another receptionist (a female this time) what happened she was, rightfully, shocked and apologetic and said she was handle the situation on the backend. Again the actual stay was fine but to have something like this happen is completely unacceptable.

Basic nice hotel. Nice that we had 3 people and there were 3 beds. The bathroom was very small. The room faced Broome street and it was very loud. The staff was very nice and attentive.

Cool hotel. Great location. No elevator. You’re walking up two flights of stairs minimum to get to your room.

No so good. There was not an elevator we were told the bellman would grab our luggage. Still waiting. The air conditioning unit is very loud. The fire alarm went off twice in the middle of the night. Pictures make this hotel look spectacular not so much when you arrive

This is a 4 floor walk up, thats not very clear so be warned.
Great location, very new, super quiet from the street. Lots of pluses for sure!
However, they have a 'loud door' problem where every door slams so hard and loud its super disruptive to sleep. Then, combined with the fact they dont have coffee in the rooms, means you are climbing several flights of stairs with hot coffee, and everyone that gets up in the mornign to get coffee is slamming their door multiple times.
Solution: coffee in the rooms.

DIRTY BEDCLOTHES AND TOWELS - COVERED IN HAIR. The duvet doesn't have any sort of cover on it - extremely unhygienic. There was an unbelievable amount of hair under the flat sheet, of varying lengths and colours and textures. Dirty towel.
NO/POOR BEDROOM FACILITIES.
No fridge; the TV menu doesn't work very well (you have to go in and out of channel menus to scroll through the channels); TV channel quality is poor (the screen is often heavily pixelated). And there is no phone to call down to reception, which is a big inconvenience with no lift.
ALARM IN ROOM WENT OFF
Alarm clock which went off at 5:57 am. Fun.
When I checked into the hotel, I was told to ask for room service in the morning, which I thought was confusing that you'd have to order room service each morning. When I noticed there was no phone in the room, it made more sense. However they DO NOT HAVE ROOM SERVICE. What the receptionist meant was, if you want to have your room cleaned you need to tell them each morning. I found this out when I came home after the first day and my room hadn't been made up. I then requested it but it was only made up on 1 day.
LISTED AS FOUR STAR HOTEL HERE but on their own site, only three stars.
FYI there is no lift/elevator in this building, so this is not for you if you have accessibility issues, or a baby pushchair, or heavy luggage.

The hotel itself was fine. The rooms on the second floor are extremely noisy. It's a great location for so many things but that proximity also means you hear the best and worst of NYC all night long.

There’s a fine line between boutique and shabby. This hotel- largely because of what it charges- falls the wrong side. It looks dated, it is dark and it feels dingy. There are skirting boards literally falling off the wall and the whole place smells like it has been placed in a virtual can of air freshener. Service is indifferent. Big thumbs up for oat milk with the free coffee (even though it ran low every day we were there). Note for staff- don’t say “check with us for room service”. You mean (for Brits anyway) “chamber service”.

Hip hotel in old, historic building in the Bowery. Comfortable room with beautiful exposed brick and industrial vibe. No elevator, so be ready for a couple of flights of stairs. Street noise, but hey, that's New York.

No elevator and we were on the 4th floor with lots of luggage. When I asked to use the bathroom in the lobby, I guess the guy thought I was a criminal as he looked me up and down with disgust. I still gave him $1.65 as a tip. I had been on a walk earlier that morning and found lots of spare change. It was the best “back-handed” compliment I could think of.
The best thing about this place is the double room has 2 queen beds instead of full size beds. Hard to find 2 queens in Manhattan.

No elevator, doors and walls are so thin you can hear everyone and everything. Pillows were stained. The alarm strobe light kept flashing every 5 seconds. The wall AC unit was very loud.

Expedia did not mention there's no elevator in this hotel. I had to hoof it up four flights plus the two flights to get to the reception desk with my luggage. There are quite a few homeless people hanging out in front who will approach you for money upon your arrival and departure.
The hallways are so dimly lit I had to hold on to the walls to find my room.No restaurant. No coffee in rooms. Although I was booked for two nights I left after one night. The decor is a blend of Goth meets Moulin Rouge.
The room itself was very clean and it had a nice bathroom. This hotel will appeal to a young customer, for sure. The devil's in the detail, Expedia. I'm concerned about using you in the future because you leave out important details.

Horrible experience at check in, with room paid hotel charges an extra $250 for incidentals at check in and they had a line because the cc terminal was not working but they kept asking 3 different guest to try new cards . Worst 4 star room I have seen in ages. Room Looks like poorly kept pension, smallest shower.

Sohotel is a historical building and has been brought up to date, it was nice and had a good feel to it....
Only thing i did not like was that there is no elevator... but not that bad of an inconvenience.
The staff were very nice.
The rooms are TINY but we just used for sleeping so it was ok.....
We Felt safe in the neighborhood , seemed like anything we wanted to do was nearby
The desk person gave us a map and was helpful with telling us which Subway to take for each destination we were going... even gave us a map, Sohotel is close to the Essex subway... (about 3 blocks) and real easy ride on the F train to Times Square.
