Stay was fine… but there was an issue with the water the next morning.
There was NO water in the morning and they couldn’t figure out what was wrong.

Awesome view from room that was matched by the staff's hospitality. Very quiet & peaceful location. Was told by Ivan the owner is planning some projects to take care of needed cosmetic repairs. Only negative is that local taxi drivers we used had problems locating the hidden driveway entrance.

Honestly the size of the room was bigger than most apartments in North America, however the bait and switch of the beach photos was not impressive to me. In the marketing photos of the hotel it shows that the hotel is right on the main beach in the town, but really it's 10 minutes outside of town on a horrible ugly part of the beach where it's not swimmable. There is nothing around this property except a extremely overpriced restaurant a few minutes away by walking on the beach. There was nothing at the hotel for food or drinks apart from a vending machine. Not even coffee in the morning.
If you're there as a couple and you want to go into town every day to get food I would say stay here however if you don't want to leave the hotel bring your own food and drinks as there is nothing around like I said before.

This was a lovely place. We stayed in "El pájaro" (the rooms are named for Lotería cards, which I love). It was absolutely huge. Large living area, super-comfy couch, full kitchen, dining room table, two queen beds, separated by a wall so it feels like two bedrooms, and a balcony overlooking the pool and ocean. Iván and the other staff were super-friendly (as were the guests!). It is very pretty.
The one negative is location if you are not in a car. (If you are, there's free parking and you're set) You can get to/from Bucerías on bus easily and very cheaply, but it's almost impossible to walk anywhere. There are no cafés, shops, in walking distance and Carretera de la Playa is essentially a highway so you can't walk on it. It would have been great if we could buy milk, bolillos, a beer, the basics walking distance.
The beach immediately to the right of Casa María is privatized and you can't walk there, which is a bummer, though you can walk left. We walked to Bucerías on the beach, but it's quite rocky and a very narrow beach, so not easy and doing it with groceries it would be very difficult. (If you want to drive to restaurants, no problem, but we were eating "in")
We loved Casa Maria itself and it was still a great visit and I do recommend it. Also, there is one fancy hotel just down the highway (that you can walk to in 3 min) that has a restaurant. We had a beer there on the veranda one night and it was really beautiful. (Baklava is the name - they have a website)

Great little apart hotel. Only 7 units so the pool is never crowded. Kitchen has everything for basic cooking. Filtered water provided. Ivan, the manager, is super friendly, helpful and quick to deal with any issues. The house keeping staff are awesome. The beach in front is hard to swim at because of rocks and it's very shallow, you need water shoes. 10 minute walk towards Bucerias and the beach and water is great. The restaurants close by are quite expensive, better to go into town. Hail down the bus outside the hotel, 10 pesos, same on the way back.

I appreciated the beautiful ocean view. Every suite has this as each one is long and narrow. As others have written, it is a 40 minute walk on the beach to downtown Bucerias.

This is a great place if you want to rest and enjoy the ocean view. The suite is large. The kitchen is not great but passable. The staff are wonderful. It is tricky to walk very far on the beach. Getting groceries takes time and you have to have transportation both ways. No corner store. Nowhere to walk really unless you walk beside a very busy highway. I would go again just to hear and sea the ocean.

Good value overall. Staff was great, very friendly and helpful. Ivan makes a great Pina Colada for 100 pesos and has good advise generally. Rooms very clean and spacious, well kept.
Only complaints are (flip side is this is why the property is reasonably priced):
(i) the location, a little further from Bucerias than we would have liked, about a 40 min walk to the Centro part of town. The nearest Kiosko (good for brewed coffee/supplies; or just bring your own coffee and filters to the casa) is about a 20 minute walk, which gets you to the town limit (there is a nearer Oxxo, but unreliable for coffee and certain supplies); also, close to the highway which means background traffic noise; the one positive to the location is that it is 30 minute walking distance to Le Cruz to the north, which enabled us to discovered that quaint little fishing village which we otherwise wouldn't have, and
(ii) the beach is small and rocky right out front, so not good for swimming, but better beache five or ten minute walk to the south towards town.
I would recommend this place to anyone on a budget, but with good walking legs.

This is a great charming Mexican jewel right on the water. Only a short walk to the fantastic restaurant Sukha. The manager, Ivan, was the best! Will definitely stay here again.

Our stay at Casa Maria was only for one Night*) but, we certainly enjoyed it! The hotel is conveniently located close to town. We caught a taxi into town for dinner and then walked back along the beach to the hotel. We were a little surprised to learn that the stairs that access the beach had been destroyed by a hurricane so we had to climbed up the ruins like a jungle gym. We learned the next day that there is a pathway going through the undeveloped adjacent lot that can be used for temporary access instead of scaling the broken staircase.
There is a restaurant close by called “Suka” that had great food and a beautiful ocean view.
Ivan our host was fantastic! He gave us all sorts of helpful information and was very friendly! We would definitely recommend staying there and we would stay again.

Huge room, could easily sleep 8 (although not in separate bedrooms). Well-decorated, fantastic ocean view, balcony overlooking the pool and the beach, full kitchen, comfortable beds, big screen TV. Staff are polite, friendly and helpful.
Unfortunately, because of the recent hurricane Lydia, the steps providing access to the beach were washed out and haven't yet been replaced. We chose this location because we wanted to go for long walks on the beach. We did so, but had to get onto the beach after walking along the road quite a ways. Hopefully they will repair beach access soon! If you like small boutique hotels with a true Mexican character, you will enjoy Casa Maria.

Huge room with great view. Needed a ride everywhere - not walkable. Helpful staff. Very low water pressure in shower. Decent pool to cool off in with gorgeous view. Cab ride to nearest restaurant was $14 round trip.

Ivan was fantastic, the room was nice and clean, (too big for 2 people) but comfortable. The pool needed a good shock treatment, water was kind of cloudy looking, cleaning staff were great. A little far away from where we were wanting to be but taxi's were reasonable.

It was alright not exactly what i expected. It was away more than i needed for a 1 night stay. As such more money than i wanted to spend. It was a set up for more then 1 or 2 people. Check in was delayed by one and half hours which should not been the case with 3 pm check in .
Other than that it worked for one night stay

This place is a hidden Gem, The staff here are absolutely amazing and make you feel so at home. You need something and they make it happen. The manager Ivan is the nicest guy around. So knowledgeable and Friendly and helpful with everything. The cleaning staff are great and clean from top to bottom everything. Nice Quiet place, no worries about getting a poolside chair or towels. It is like having your own place right on the ocean. It is a 10 min ride by bus to the town of Bucerias or a 35 min walk along the beach. La Cruz is 10 mins the other way by bus.
