I had read the reviews before booking so knew what I was getting into. A charming spot it is, without a doubt. The room feels old as it should but the electrical system seemed like it was upgraded economically, not up to modern standards. The shower in the room was an addition that took part of the main space - the shower stall was minuscule. So as far as the facilities are concerned, I would say they are in dire need of capital investment. As far as the included free breakfast on the beautiful veranda or lovely breakfast room, it was offered in a miserly fashion. One day, I was served a single egg, one quarter of a slice of ham, one breakfast sausage. Instead of being offered milk proactively with my coffee, I had to ask (for three of them). Server came back with the three in the hand but only put one on the table. I had to ask again for all three of them. The previous day saw two eggs on English muffins, with the same amount of sides. The two days also had frozen cubed potatoes as a side as well. I have never seen such a meal in any restaurant. You get what they make, there are no other options. I would rather they increase the price of the room by a few dollars and serve a decent breakfast than provide a miserly breakfast - it does nothing for their brand.

Quirky room in an old hotel that is surprisingly comfortable. Fabulous staff. Good breakfast. We had to find a place at the last minute (the original hotel was closed) and the clerk moved not-yet-arrived guests around to give us a ground floor room. Two wingback chairs, a comfortable queen bed, and a small dresser filled the room because a small shower had been added to the half bath by enclosing the area in front of half the window with door's installed as walls, leaving the area above open to the room. But I would stay again as we loved the place and people!

I booked a Deluxe room for our 2-night stay which was not worth the price we paid. The room was spacious but dark and dingy appearance with too many things not looked after. The bathroom was quite old and outdated, bedroom lights were flicking, the bathroom light did not have a light switch to turn off lights, the bathroom door was jammed, you need to keep the door closed tight to be able to sleep at night. The TV is much too small for the size of the room. Our room was located close to the spa, at night we heard humming from the hot tubs in our room. Overall we were not happy with paying more than $600.00 for a deluxe room that was everything but deluxe.
The location is excellent and the staff is very friendly.

Great hotel and was close in walking distance to everything. I had mechanical issues with my car and they were very helpful to find a fantastic mechanic. The room was very clean and the breakfast was delicious!

I loved my stay and will definately go back. Beautiful auberge with an antique feel. Close to all the restaurants and cute boutiques. On the same street actually. Access to the spa which was nicer than what I expected and a nice breakfast included in a cute restaurant like room. Employees offer great service, always smiling and in a good mood. Cute bedroom.

Wonderful and beautiful house. Receptionist took care of her every need from providing us with plastic wine glasses for the rest of our road trip to letting us have a late check out so my wife could go jogging. Highly recommended. And the breakfast room and breakfast itself we’re great

The rooms are all different so make sure call before your stay so there are no surprises. We switched our room but could only get it for one of the two nights which we found out after we moved all of our things and were very disappointed as we were looking forward to this destination. On the positive side breakfast was great and the location excellent. One front desk clerk in particular ( Mishka ) was outstanding and very helpful, she made the best of a disappointing situation for us.

Grand old house turned in to a hotel, just beautiful. Comfortable room, lovely spa, great breakfast.

There is a spa in the hotel and unfortunately the chlorine smell is rather pervasive.

It was a charming, rustic old style hotel. We would stay again.
There was a clerical error in our booking but the staff was able to still accommodate us and compensate us without our requesting it. Given it was a very busy weekend we were very happy with all that was done to mitigate the issue.

We were in the area to go spring skiing at Le Massif. The skiing was excellent. Baie St Paul is a lovely little town with a thousand art galleries and lots of nice restaurants and pubs. Unfortunately most weren’t open because it was off season.
La Grande Maison is centrally located in the old part of town. It’s old and funky in a nice way. Breakfast was excellent and the Spa is amazing with two large hottubs with waterfalls a sauna and a cold waterfall if you’re into that. The staff are friendly and helpful. The only negative was the shower in our room took at least 10 minutes to run warm, wasting water.

Spa is fantastic - hot tubs, cold splash and sauna... and I was able to schedule a massage for right after I finished my 2nd day of skiing at nearby Le Massif, an incredible ski resort. Our room was comfortable and quiet, the staff were friendly and helpful. Totally worth the price, and I will definitely stay again when I come to Le Massif to ski.
