Coral Reef Hotel checked off all our boxes. Affordable, clean, comfortable, simple and perfect for our 7 night stay in Kauai.
Banana bread was a nice addition from the office.
We highly recommend.

Hotel Coral Reef is an historic hotel in the heart of Kapaa. Old water features and beautiful grounds. Fun pool and right on the oceanfront. Lots of amenities to borrow for the beach or whatever. Room was a little dated, but comfy, huge bed. Had to figure out the wiring to get the fan working without the lights being on to sleep. Friendly staff, offered banana bread samples. Connected outdoor cafe great for breakfast. Also right on the ocean trail for walking, biking, etc. Ice machine, guest laundry, elevator. Would definitely stay here again.

This sweet family owned gem in Kapa'a is a must stay. Ocean view room was clean, spacious and what a view! We decided to stay another day. This wasn't our first visit to Kauai and it won't be our last, but finally we found a nice place to stay that won't break the bank. Amenities were great, clean pool, close to shops and restaurants, short drive to Princeville, and Poipu. They also had beach chairs, towels and a cooler for us to take to the beach. Great location to stay on the east side, great service, we will be back here.

Our room was clean. Other parts of property weren’t clean like elevator floor— lots of food crumbs all over but minor over all. Didn’t use elevator much as stairs were faster. And while the room was clean and bed pretty comfortable, some of the room appeared to be needing some attention ( trim paint & some wall cleaning needed around light switches and door handles- but minor overall) We were pleasantly surprised with an 3rd floor ocean view upgrade - previously assigned a parking lot view. We were very appreciative of this and the early check in. The lady who worked in the office was great and super accommodating. For a reasonable short-term stay, I would recommend this place and would stay again
Bike/walking path right in front was a great addition too. Property provides loaner bikes and other things

The property was in a wonderful location right by the beach. The staff was nice but the property older, a little run down, and overpriced. I was looking forward to the free bicycle use but they were in pretty bad shape.

Overall the property was in a great location and a nice room. My issue is that my AC stopped working mid through the first night. I woke up with this issue in a steaming hot room. I called the front desk before heading out for the day and they said they would send someone right away. I returned to the room that evening around 11pm and couldn’t get ahold of anyone on the phone and had to sleep a second night with no AC but was at least able to open the door before going to sleep. The next morning I have to leave for the airport at 6am and there wasn’t anyone to talk to about the issue and I never heard a word from anyone.

Location was amazing! The view from the room and the pool were great. The ladies that worked front desk were very nice and welcoming. The rooms could have been cleaner and the beds could have been more comfortable but overall would gladly stay again!

Great location
But too expensive for an outdated room
It’s smell like the 70’s
We turn on the ceiling fan and leave doors open when we occupy to vent the smell out

Older place with lots of character. If you want boujee this isnt the place to go. If you want a cheaper place with beautiful grounds and views, this place checks the boxes. Close to town so you can walk to shops and good food choices. Would definitely stay again.

First this place is Not a hotel. It’s a Motel. This whole place should be condemned. It’s sooo outdated. Dirty, old, smells like pot inside and surrounding building. Rooms are sooo small it’s ridiculous. AC sucks that it takes all night just to get it cool. Beds squeak. Only some outlets work. After all this we only stayed 1 night. My advice pay the extra money to stay somewhere else. Your regret it if you don’t. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

The pictures looked amazing it was our last night on Kaui we wanted to stay close to the airport we had an early flight. My wife has allergies with in Ten minutes she was coughing and sneezing. The hotel was old the room had a musty smell. We arrived at the hotel about 8:30 pm told the clerk we couldn’t stay here he said he would have to talk to the manager. They are charging my card I am disputing it.The pictures were probably twenty years old.

This classic small hotel was last renovated in 2006, and it’s still in good condition. It has a comfortable home-like feel without feeling rundown. It’s why I like Kaua’i, it feels more authentic, smaller and local. When I checked in they told me that my room had a plumbing issue and that it was unavailable. When they didn’t have a room to accommodate my daughter and me, they gave us 2 rooms next to each other at no extra cost. It was my daughter’s 15th birthday, so she was over the moon about that. They also have great beach chairs to borrow and some vintage bikes to ride the path on the beach. The location is great, the beach behind the building is small but nice and there are plenty of places within walking distance to eat and shop. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms well appointed and the walls even seemed well soundproofed.

Stains on the walls and carpet, holes in the walls, the toilet ran all night long, air conditioner malfunctions,
baby roaches in the bathroom at night. There were some updates to the rooms but in general they don't seem to care much about esthetics. The only saving grace was that some of the employees were very kind and welcoming.

I don’t really want to do this but someone needs to say something. I loved our room however the landscape on the way to the room was very crappy. There was a little dead bird laying near the entrance walkway and it stayed there our whole stay! No one came to pick him up or anything and he started to smell. The room was ok. I love d that we were footsteps to the beach. It was so nice we could use a cooler and borrow a bicycle. I loved that part! The bed was not comfortable I woke up with a sore back and I had to perform. I can tell this little place is as run down…but they need more work!
