There are so many things to do and see on your visit, so here are a few recommendations to get you started.
Restaurants:
Kwei Fei: Chef David Schuttenberg brings the heat on James Island to adoring fans looking for lamb dumplings, spicy noodles, and mapo tofu. Order several dishes, like dan dan noodles and lamb dumplings, because leftovers are just as good the next day.
167 Raw Oyster Bar: Enjoy the best that the ocean has to offer like oysters on the half shell, baked crab dip, and rich lobster rolls in a dining room that feels like a party room full of friends and family. 167 Raw doesn’t take reservations, so sign into the queue and explore the area while waiting for the restaurant to text.
Vern's: Husband-and-wife team Daniel “Dano” and Bethany Heinze welcome you to their American bistro nestled in a mostly residential area. Dishes include roasted chicken in a brown butter jus, fresh campanelle with rabbit, and bouncy charred sourdough with allium butter.
Dave's Carry-Out: A corner fish shack that consistently serves up big plates of fried fresh catch fish and all the fixin's to go with it.
Bars:
Sweatman's Garden: Fancy sodas, a full bar, and fondue. The sodas are nonalcoholic, but for $5 the bartenders will add your choice of house liquor or cannabis-based infusion.
Lost Isle: An outdoor bar offering tasty, fun, and accessible drinks that aren't too pretentious or complex. The goal is for guests to have an uncomplicated good time.
Philosophers & Fools: Technically, this is a contemporary bookshop that also serves beer, wine, and snacks. It's cozy and cute and gives you the chance to grab that bestseller you've been wanting to read without it feeling like an errand.
Cleats: A sports bar focused on community and fun. They have cocktails with names like Nothing But (fer)NET (a mix of Fernet, rum, and Thai tea), spiked Gatorade, and the more traditional offerings of wine and beer.
Attractions:
Rainbow Row: This series of 13 brightly-colored houses along the waterfront is one of Charleston’s most photographed spots and is a spectacular site to see.
