Our overall satisfaction with this hotel is unremarkable, but the dirty and stained carpeting throughout gave this hotel the feel of poverty. Also the bathroom was inadequate--shower water ran all over the floor with the drain between sink and toilet. Double bed sagged. Great service from the front desk--friendly, spoke excellent English, eager to give helpful suggestions. Pretty good breakfast buffet. 10-15 minutes walk to harbor.

OK. Well, we were promised a room with twin beds. We arrived and had been given a double bed. We were told this was due to double booking. They eventually (half past midnight) provided a camp bed (which had broken slats) and were promised a new room the next day. It did not happen - my friend had the camp bed, he accepted it, so we didnt push it, even though we were there for 3 nights The staff were pretty useless. I asked directions to the palace, left or right. I was told left...it was actually right. The "full" breakfast is great if by full you mean bread rolls and cols meat. There was some bacon but it didnt really look edible to me. The saving grace was its location. It was very near to the royal palace, just 5mins walk if that, albeit the road on which the hotel is on is not really lit well. In summary - excellent location, terrible service.

Zu schäbig, zu teuer, entspricht höchstens 1 Stern.
Lift funktioniert nicht richtig. Frühstücksraum kalt und unpersönlich. Lüftung zu laut, besonders nachts. Dusche/WC stinkt muffig trotz Lüftung

The hotel location was pretty convienent being within walking distance of the harbor area.
The hotel was older and the Bathrooms were very small. The sink converted into the shower which was interesting. However they did have new flat screen TV's in the room.
The breakfast was also very good.
Overall I would stay there again.

Zimmer ist total überteuert. Einziger Pluspunkt: Stadtnähe
Wer von Servicewüste Deutschland spricht, sollte norwegische Hotels testen.

The Carlton was an extremely convenient hotel located close to the harbour, and cannot be faulted in any way. It is quiet, and attached to a lovely pub and a cheap (well by Oslo standards) supermarket. Also, when I asked if I could have breakfast at 5 in the morning as I was leaving for Bergen, the staff laid out the entire breakfast room two hours early. A good choice if you don't mind the relatively modest rooms.

Wasn't impressed by the service I received from the smarmy propreitor at all. He was far more interested in dealing with the bus load of French people who arrived same time as me making me feel that I was not as important to their business. He joked saying 'Welcome to Fawlty Towers' you're not wrong, I thought. The room was a little shabby but the balcony and distant sea view placated me. All other staff were perfectly fine and the breakfast and location were decent enough.

Would have been a quiet hotel except for the construction next door. Convenient walk to tourist sites, the waterfront, subway, and shops. Good Italian restaurant nearby called La Rosa Maria. Peppe's Pizza also nearby.

Service was excellent. Friendly and prompt response to requests. Breakfast was good and fruit was available during the day. It would have been good to have coffee/tea making facilities during day. Room was in not such good decorative order, but that wasn't important. It was nice and quiet.

If your looking for a fairly cheap hotel then this is the place to be. Its close to the whole of Oslo. Shops, Bars, Clubs and if your there on business the local bar is a nice place to relax at the end of a hard day. I recommend this hotel for the lower rates than most hotels in Oslo but still very close to most activities

The Carlton hotel was a fine place to stay for a night. Room was clean and staff were very friendly. It was quite small and so had a cosy and friendly feel to it. Room was not very modern and had a wet bathroom meaning that when we used the shower the whole bathroom floor got wet. Facilities were good, room quite small but adequate.
