The Perfect Getaway Awaits! The “Game On” Getaway is a charming second-floor apartment within the House Wins duplex, featuring delightful decor and modern amenities. Guests will appreciate endless fun in the gameroom, comfortable beds, a shared outdoor fire pit, a short walk to shopping, restaurants, parks, and beautiful beaches. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to prepare a great meal with family and friends, or, you can explore nearby dining options to experience all that downtown Michigan City has to offer!
To avoid any confusion, potential guests should thoroughly read ALL information below before requesting to book. (We promise that the info below will better prepare you for your trip and answer 99% of your questions!) Thank you!
UNIT PERKS:
--This rental is a private upper unit apartment inside of a historic home. Everything shown in the pictures on this listing (with the exception of the outdoors) is your private space. The unit below has its own coded entrance, living areas, bedrooms/bathrooms, etc. With the exception of the outdoor firepit, you do NOT share space with other travelers.
--This rental includes a kitchen with a fridge/freezer, sink, stove, oven, microwave, toaster oven, blender & coffee maker. Essentials like plates, cups, cookware, utensils, & paper towels will be provided for your use. Guests can gather around the kitchen table to enjoy each other’s company over a good meal! (Please note that there is not a dishwasher at this property.)
--Along with coffee, creamer and sweetener are provided.
--Cooking spray, olive oil, salt/pepper are provided.
--Small beach toys for kids and a large woven beach towel is provided for each guest.
--Free public parking is available around the home. You may park anywhere on 10th St on the same side as the house, as long as there isn’t a yellow curb.
--One of the bathrooms includes a full tub and the other one has a shower.
--A hair dryer and showering essentials/bath towels are available. Bedroom has clothing storage and hangers. There is also an iron and small ironing board available.
–To note: While fully rehabbed in 2024, this home is over 100 years old, and therefore, a bit funky in its layout. The kitchen does have limited countertop space and the game room bathroom is a bit awkward in its layout. We did our best to rehab it to be more functional, but we simply see these “less than perfect” items as part of the historic charm. We just like to point them out in advance so that there aren’t surprises when it comes to the apartment. Our kids loved playing hide and seek during the rehab process, but the unit itself can feel a bit like a corn maze if you’re directionally challenged. (Hah!)
SLEEPING SET UP:
“Game On” Getaway (upper unit) sleeps max of 10 people in the following areas:
Bedroom 1: King Bed (2 people)
Bedroom 2: King Bed (2 people)
Living Area 1: Queen sleeper sofa (2 people)
Game Room: Two Sleeper Sofas (4 people)
Please note: If you’d like to bring more than 10 people, you may click on our profile and search for the listing “House Wins: Poker, Ping Pong, and Pac-Man,” which includes the whole house rental (both the upper unit and lower unit).
TECHNOLOGY:
--A large, flat screen smart TV is hooked up in your living area and the game room, though we recommend the outdoors over the tube! ;)
--High Speed Wifi is provided.
--A washer/dryer is available for your use in the game room, beside the ping pong table.
OUTDOOR SPACE (***Shared with guests of the downstairs unit***):
--The shared outdoor space is in the backyard. The area features 12 adirondack chairs and a firepit to enjoy those spring/summer/fall nights. Roast a s’more and enjoy! Please note that we do NOT have a grill at this location, but you’re welcome to bring a portable grill if you’d like. Please also note that this space is shared with guests in the lower unit, so you may see other guests outside utilizing this area as well. We do ask that all guests honor quiet hours (10PM - 8AM) as not to disturb other travelers or neighbors.
ADDITIONAL INFO:
We welcome guests of all backgrounds! However, due to prior disrespectful renters and property damage, we will only be accepting booking requests from:
--AirBnB users who are "verified" and who already have positive reviews from other hosts.
--Renters that are above the age of 25.
--Renters who are not bringing pets.
--A maximum of ten guests per reservation. Extra guests are not allowed. If you have more travelers and would like to rent more than one unit, feel free to click on our profile to see "The House Wins.” This will allow you to rent the other private unit within the house at the same time, sleeping up to 16 people total.
--We value our relationship with our neighbors, so events/gatherings/parties are not to be held by guests. In order to keep the unit in excellent condition for future guests, we are firm on these rules. We apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.
***As hosts, we have sustained damages to our properties in the past. Because we value our relationships with our neighbors and because we aim to keep the properties in top condition, we do require guests to have previous positive reviews from past trips. If you do not have previous positive reviews from past trips, we do require a fully refundable $500 damage deposit. The deposit is returned on your day check out when the cleaning team arrives and confirms the property is in good condition.***
***Smoking is NOT allowed inside or around the property. If there is any evidence smoking occurred inside or within 50 feet of the property (smoke smell, ashes, paraphernalia, etc) there will be an additional $300 cleaning charge and/or loss of security deposit if one was collected.
***Note that the neighborhood itself is transitional, and while our guests have never had safety issues while staying with us, the area hosts an eclectic mix of people: both locals and tourists. The police station is less than a mile away, along with many other popular restaurants and attractions. If you have any specific questions or concerns, please feel free to read previous location ratings/reviews from other guests, and/or reach out prior to booking.
***Note that there are train tracks a block away. As of October 7, 20204, Michigan City has become a “quiet zone,” meaning that a train isn’t supposed to blow a whistle unless there’s an emergency. Regardless, you will likely hear the dinging of the train gates opening/closing. We've provided sound makers in each room (and beside the sleeper sofas) to help with this noise. The vast majority of our guests do not complain about the train, but you are welcome to bring ear plugs for nighttime if you’re concerned.
***Note that if you are bringing infants/babies, the unit is NOT baby-proofed. (Furniture is not secured to walls, outlet blockers are not included, cabinets/drawers are not locked, etc.) You assume responsibilities for all guests.
***Note that the lower unit may be rented out at the same time, (their ceiling is your floor) so there is potential for noise from other guests.
***Note there are many stairs to enter this unit, as it is an upper level apartment. Stairs to the game room are historic and steep!
CHECK-IN INFO:
--Guests who book will receive detailed check-in instructions and a key code for entry on the morning of their scheduled arrival. All of this will be communicated through AirBnB messenger.
--Please note that Michigan City is on Central Standard Time (CST). Check-in is any time between 4-10 PM; you will likely have guests in the unit above you so if arriving late please be very mindful of noise levels; guests must check out by 10 a.m. so that we can clean/prepare for our next renters before they arrive.
--Our cancellation policy is moderate.
