TIPS
If you feel like walking, the center of Como is within walking distance. The walk takes less than an hour. Take the main road to Villa Olmo, then there is a pedestrian path along the lake. To travel and walk around Lake Como, especially in the small towns, it is necessary to wear comfortable shoes. In the towns, there are many public fountains and the water is drinkable unless otherwise indicated. Tap water is also drinkable. You can bring your refillable bottle with you! From Cernobbio, there are many hiking opportunities in the nearby woods, up to Monte Bisbino. If you are looking for an easy hike in the area and still want to enjoy the mountain views, the Greenway of Lake Como is an easy-to-follow trail that does not require much climbing. The Greenway passes through the towns from Colonno to Griante. From Cernobbio, you can reach the starting point in Colonno by bus. Another pleasant and relaxing hiking trail in the area is the Via Verde, which connects Moltrasio to Laglio. In Italy, many shops (especially small ones) and services are closed in the middle of the day, so be careful to plan your purchases accordingly. Lake Como is one of the deepest lakes in Europe and the deepest in Italy. Swimming and diving are prohibited in many areas and can be dangerous. For those who wish to immerse themselves in the water, however, there are some options. In Cernobbio, the lakeside Lido has a pool. In nearby Moltrasio, there is a small beach. In Como city, there is an outdoor pool near Villa Olmo, but swimming in the lake is mostly discouraged or prohibited. Locals and visitors also enjoy going to Nesso, where the bravest can dive into the lake from the ancient Roman bridge near the waterfall. Lake Como is in a mountainous region. The surrounding pre-Alps do not seem very high, but the climate is still influenced by the nearby mountains and temperatures can change quickly.
