About this house rental
This beautifully designed cottage is nestled in a wooded area close to Lake Macatawa & Lake Michigan. It’s just 2.6 miles to beautiful Ottawa Beach at Holland State Park.
View the surrounding trees from the balconies & deck, play arcade games, pool, & foosball in the game room, or explore things to do nearby.
You can go to the beach, shop, hike nature preserves, or just relax at home in the cottage. For shopping & dining, picturesque downtown Holland is just a 4.8 mile drive.
Whether you’re looking for a cozy home to relax in or the ideal home base (it's just 16 miles to Saugatuck) this place has it all.
MAIN LEVEL
After going up a short flight of stairs to the wrap-around deck, you’ll enter the chalet-style cottage’s main level.
Unwind in the the open plan layout. There’s a beautiful, well-equipped kitchen that will make your inner chef happy, a dining area with seating for 6, and a living area where you can stretch out.
The stylish living area has a large sectional with a Roku TV over the gas fireplace. Log in to your streaming accounts to watch shows on the flatscreen.
The main level includes a bedroom that has a king-size bed, dresser, and private balcony.
There’s also a full bath with a tub/shower combo and Tushy bidet, and a separate laundry room with a full size washer & dryer. (We use unscented laundry detergent & dryer sheets.)
You can go upstairs or down from the main level, or out onto the deck through the two sliding doors.
UPPER LEVEL
The upstairs has two large bedrooms, both with private balconies, dressers, and closets. There’s a king bed in one and a queen in the other.
There’s also a bathroom with a tub/shower combo on this level, so everything is right where you need it.
LOWER LEVEL
The lower level retro family game room includes vintage wood paneling, a reading area near the non-working gas fireplace, a pool table, old school cocktail arcade machine, and a foosball table.
A separate office with a door is on this level as well in case you need to get some work done.
BACKYARD
You can enter the backyard through a door in the lower level office or by heading to the left of the garage from outside.
The large, wooded backyard is partially fenced and left mostly natural. (Please avoid the neighbor’s pond.)
Enjoy the fire pit, BBQ on the park-style charcoal grill, and have a meal at the picnic table. Play yard games in the side yard or just enjoy the sights and sounds of nature.
BALCONIES AND DECK
There are small balconies off each bedroom, and a deck that wraps around the side & front of the cottage. The deck has a table & chairs where you can enjoy the fresh air, some coffee, or a snack.
Guest access
You’ll have access to the entire house and all its amenities, except for a small owner’s closet and the garage. (The mechanical room will be unlocked, but please stay out of it unless needed.) There’s parking for up to 3 cars on the driveway right near the front door for your convenience. There’s no street parking.
Winter note: In case of heavy snowfall and/or greater than 3 inches, the driveway will be plowed within 6-18 hours. Please park cars side by side and close to the garage so the plow can do most of the driveway. Snowmelt is available for the front door area, and put down before your arrival. Heated mats keep the steps clear.
Other things to note
To make sure the home will meet your needs, here are some quick notes:
There are stairs to the front door, and two staircases inside the home.
The cottage is not completely childproofed, and the previous owner had both dogs and cats inside, so it may not be suitable for toddlers or for those with severe allergies.
The large, wooded backyard is left mostly natural to support wildlife and pollinators. Part of it is fenced but the fence is open in places. If you’re lucky, you may see deer, raccoons, possums, squirrels, hawks, turkeys, geese, ducks, smaller birds, and other wildlife.
While we do spray, keep in mind that Michigan is home to ticks as well. If you choose to use the yard, take standard care like you would in any natural area.
Occasionally, we may need to mow the yard or take care of fallen leaves/weeds while you’re there.
Beach towels are provided for your use (in addition to regular towels of course.)
If all this sounds good to you, come enjoy your stay at this Lake Michigan vacation home!
