We had a marvellous week at this cool, well managed and elegant old villa. The location is quiet and tranquil whilst the local cafes and bars are just 5mins walk away. The terrace provides incredible views of the mountains and the pool was cool and refreshing on hot afternoons

Frank was the perfect host and communicated well. The cold beer left in the refrigerator was a welcome surprise after the long drive from Porto.
The location was quiet and not to far (800 meters) from the central square where restaurants (they are open for dinner at 8 pm at the earliest), grocery store, and shopping can be found. We stayed here 6 nights and used it as a base to visit Segovia, Toledo, Madrid, and the Miraflores region itself. The bedrooms were spacious as was the common area. The beds were very comfortable. Although the bedrooms were all ensuite, the bathrooms were tiny. Be prepared to take shifts. The pool area was a nice place to sit outside and read in the cooler parts of the day. We didn't use the pool itself as it was a bit too cold for our liking. Overall, it is a very nice place.

Very nice property in the middle of Miraflores just a ten minute walk into town which has numerous bars and restaurants. Three good bedrooms, all en-suite. Great sitting out area which always had some shade, lovely pool with 6 sun loungers.
Frank was brilliant, full of ideas of where to go and what to do, these were in Spanish in the house and he even had them translated into English for us to understand better. We also had a couple of very minor problems which he sorted immediately.

The place is little bit up the hill but beautiful. Because of the weather, we did not get to use the garden and the pool but they are inviting. We did not cook any meals but only breakfasts because there are enough good restaurants around to be checked out. The owner is very friendly and easy to communicate. It's a very nice neighborhood.

Frank is the most friendly and helpful owner you can wish for.
The accommodation is full of character and offers all the amenities and appliances you need to enjoy a fabulous holiday. The pool isn't heated but the salt water is great (you wouldn't know it is salt water) but no smell of chlorine and stinging eyes. The village has several bars and restaurants within 800 meters walk (up hill!), a good supermarket and several shops inc a superb fishmonger. There are some great trips over the mountains to historical sites incorporating some lovely scenery. Frank is just the best host you can wish for. 5 stars.

Charmante petite maison mitoyenne

Outstanding stay
We stayed at Villa Carmen del Rosal for a week and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. It is an old building with the accommodation situated all on one floor. Three lovely bedrooms with high ceilings and well equipped bathrooms. The outside area is lovely with a great pool. The only observation is that the house does not get the early morning sun so bear that in mind if you sunworshippers. Frank was very friendly and accommodating. He greeted us with wine and chocolate and made us feel very welcome. Anyone visiting should bear in mind that there are friendly cats that pop round in case anyone has an allergy.
Miraflores de la Sierra is a lovely town with great restaurants. It is within close walking distance. The local supermarket is excellent and opened really long hours.
We highly recommend this place.

Cosy New Year's Weekend With Friends
After having spent two New Year's Eve in the Belgian Ardennes, I finally convinced my Dutch sister and her friends that Madrid's Sierra is at least as beautiful. So we booked Frank's casa rural with a typical Dutch touch of "gezelligheid"(=cosiness). We definitely had a blast, enjoying the chimney, the couch AND the wonderful surroundings, doing several hikes in all possible directions. Frank took care of the slightest detail! I can recommend this to EVERYONE that wants a weekend away from it all!

Wish we had more time
Great place to experience true Spanish living in luxury, and discover Madrid and surrounding area. Owner is an excellent host and best travel guide. I would follow his itinerary again. We were able to see Toledo Segovia El Escorial, Avilla and following owner's tips for the hidden gems in the region, the nature drive, medieval villages and monasteries. The best part was coming home to the Villa do some cooking along with wine. Our daughter adopted the neighborhood cat, and we all had had a great time.
The villa had all the comforts of home, walking distance to all amenities in town to do shopping or dinning out. We would definitely visit again.
More than enough for our family of four, easily suitable for 6 people.

Recommended - beautiful villa, great location
Villa Carmen is an absolutely beautiful villa in a great location (quiet residential road with hardly any cars driving past). Has large outdoor area with enough room to sit on the top patio or by the large pool, which is not overlooked. The two are separated by 12 steep stone steps. Rooms are spacious with stone walls and high ceilings, keeping the villa cool. It was very clean and had essentials inc microwave, kettle, dishwasher & washing machine.
The owner of the villa, Frank, is extremely friendly and helpful. We didn't have any problems and he made sure we had everything we needed (even went out immediately when he realised we didn't have a hair drier and bought one, even though he was going away that day, and most shops were closed, being Sunday). Frank recommended some really nice restaurants as well as places to go if we wanted a day trip, worth asking him for tips!
The town is 10 mins walk away and has some lovely restaurants, most serving until around 10pm. One restaurant, Ilerja, at the end of the parade, serves amazing steaks, not too pricey! Staff are very helpful and friendly. A restaurant which served good Tapas and succulent steak was by a church on a cobbled street (can't remember the name, Frank will know).
One restaurant TO AVOID is Meson Maito - food was disgusting. Lamb soup had been bulked up with soggy bread and lumps of fat, the salads were un-appetising. Staff were unhelpful, bordering on rude. Cost of the meal for 6 people which included 2 soups, 4 salads and 6 Cokes was well over 100euros.
The supermarket is about 5 mins walk away (up steep hill, probably not suitable for those with walking difficulties) and is quite large - sells anything you’d need for the week. We got fresh bread from a little shop in town (check name with Frank) and opposite is a deli with a huge range of ham and cheese.
Madrid is an hour away, bus goes from the main road (5 mins walk away). When you get to the bus station I'd recommend finding another bus that goes straight to the town centre (Sol) as we tried to walk before realising it would take 2 hours. We had a car as it was cheaper than getting transfers from the airport as there were 6 of us. Handy for trips to supermarket but unless you’re planning day trips you wouldn't really need one.
I’d definitely recommend visiting Villa Carmen. We had a lovely, relaxing holiday, and ate delicious food - all in a stunning location.
If I get the chance to go back again then I will do!

This Villa is extremely nice
My wife and I found this the Perfect place to stay for a week and plan for our next stay for 10 days as there is so much to do, and at the same time it's a quiet place to relax.
Special note to the Owner: very Charming and pleasant, explaining what we wanted to learn about the activities around, a warm welcome: thanks!

A week in Miraflores
We stayed in this beautiful house for a week, together with our one year old daughter. We had a very good stay, the owner is very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't too good so the water in the swimming pool wasn't warm enough to swim in. This place offers enough to enjoy your holiday though; it's close to Madrid and other places of interest and is surrounded by mountains.
Well worth a visit!

Far from the madding crowd
I stayed here during a very cold late Nov week, but the house, the fireplace and the couple made it so warm that I barely felt the snow drifts. The house is authentic and filled with original artwork, which adds to its rustic charm. The scenery is stunning and is a great opportunity for artists to draw, paint or photograph or just even think about things far away from the madding crowd. If you hire a car then travelling to Madrid for the attractions or further afield to Segovia makes life easier. The local amenities are just enough to make it comfortable and self sufficient, especially if your agenda is more about quality time together. It is the perfect romantic retreat, quiet, unassuming yet very well maintained. i will definitely come back.

Villa Carmen
My family and I had the pleasure of staying at the Villa Carmen in May/June 2010. The Villa is beautiful, quiet, clean, comfortable and easily accomodated a family of five to include 3 boys ranging from 9 to 15. Although, a little cold for our taste, the boys enjoyed and made good use of the accompanying pool while my wife and I still remember fondly coffee, breakfast and of course wine on the veranda. Frank and Marisol were always very kind and gracious insuring that we lacked for nothing. While Frank even lit a cozy fire for us one evening adding to the already marvelous ambience of the Villa! The Miraflores location easily allows for day trips to Segovia,Avila,Toledo, Manzanares Castle,Madrid and the surrounding areas.Miraflores itself is beautifully situated in the mountains with distant views of Madrid.Banking and groceries are just minutes away by foot or car from the Villa which has a well stocked kitchen. I would happily stay there again and gladly recommened it to any friend. If you are looking for a relaxing, affordable get away and gracious host, then this is the place for you!

Quiet, relaxing, comfortable, and beautiful!
I stayed here with my four teenage daughters in the first week of August 2010.
It is a short walk to the local supermarket and just a couple more minutes before you are in the centre of the village where you will find several restaurants, bars, cafés and shops. Miraflores de la Sierra is not really a tourist destination, and caters primarily for the locals which is a bonus to me as you get to experience the local Spanish culture.
The building itself has been very tastefully renovated which has resulted in 3 good sized double rooms each with en-suite shower/toilet. There is also a good sized kitchen/lounge/dining room .
The kitchen is well equipped with a halogen hob. My only negative comment would be there is no oven so if you are wanting to bake or roast you will be disappointed. However there is a BBQ out on the veranda.
The lounge/dining room is comfortable and was big enough for my daughters and I, and there are lovely paintings on the walls of every room. The paintings are by Frank's wife Marisol - be sure to ask if you have a favourite as they do sell prints.
We had fantastic weather and lounging by the pool was a real pleasure. The trees surrounding the pool provide some welcome protection from the sun when it gets too hot.
It is possible to get the bus from the airport to Madrid centre (20 mins) and then to Miraflores de la Sierra (50 mins) - Bus line 725 - you need to catch it from the underground bus station (about 3 levels down!). There is also a night bus 725 which you must catch above ground but check the timetable carefully for when it runs. We visited Madrid city a couple of times during our stay, each time using the bus, and it was very easy and cheap.
The wireless broadband allowed my daughters to keep in touch with their friends.
Frank is a very friendly and helpful host - our flight was delayed by 3 hours but Frank was still there with the keys at the villa at 3am for us to get in.
In summary we enjoyed a very relaxing week in a lovely house, in a beautiful village, off the beaten track. The highlight was probably roast suckling pig at the restaurant in the village square - fantastic!

Cosy, romantic hideaway in mountain village
We stayed a week in February, but had very severe weather with rain, sleet, snow (worst in 20 yrs!) and a bit of sunshine!
The village of Miraflores is a real delight, with cafes, bars and restaurants all within easy walking distance. Good T.O. in main square. The train station in village is closed, but maybe just in the Winter? We decided to drive into Madrid (1 hour easy drive) and also used the underground metro with no problems. Be aware that in the Winter it is a good 4-5 degrees colder up in the mountains.
Firstly I would emphasise that this is not what you might expect from a "villa"; it is in fact like an apartment. It is one big house, which has been divided up, and the owner lives in the main part, attached next door (some minor living noise through the walls). The accommodation is all on one floor, with terrific high ceilings, and it is very beautifully decorated, with a roaring log fire in Winter, and stylish decor. We were expecting a spacious villa with room for the kids to run around, but It is not ideal for a large family with children, but rather more suited to adults in my opinion.
The kitchen area is very clean but basic, with no oven or kettle, no wine glasses(!)but does have a microwave and electric hob. Also there is absolutely no information provided in the house ie. no maps, instructions on appliances in house, no emergency contact details, no visitors book, no tourist information, and no handy hints for places to eat, visit, explore. Definitely one for the independant traveller. Bring your own.
The Dutch owner Frank was very friendly and attentive, and helpful providing us with a welcome food pack on request. He also made sure we had enough logs for the fire when it was minus 1 degree!
Unfortunately the internet WiFi didn't work for us, which was a problem for my husband who needed to contact his work. However the internet cafe in the village is great and very helpful. Frank tells us that many visitors have used the internet successfully so it may well have been our computer with the problem!
Be warned for those travelling with children, there is only Spanish TV with no DVD player, and no English channels. Thank goodness for the Winter Olympics! Im sure in the Summer time the TV is not an issue at all.
The beds are great, really comfortable, and plenty of towels and linen provided. Lovely to have 3 bathrooms, although small and shower rooms. Im sure the swimming pool would be fab in the warmer months.
