Jenn, Pete and family were exceptional hosts during my time staying in Akakura Onsen with them. They were extraordinarily helpful, accommodating and willing to go the extra mile to ensure that everyon had a great time. Jenn was excellent at organising the booking and managing the communication in advance pro actively as Japan changed the rules on entry, Pete was a great host and often was willling to share a beer at the end of the day after he had driven/picked me up from a neighbouring ski field. Briony, Jesse and Mim were great with the breakfast service and any questions or concerns anyone had, immediatly resolved.
The onsen was fabulous and very clean, the location superb, their knowledge and connection to the local community really ade my stay special. I'll be back!

I can’t describe adequately how much we enjoyed our stay at Refre… Peter, Jen and the whole staff went above and beyond to make us feel like family. Any request or help we needed was met with kindness, humour and efficiency. What made our stay so good was that it seemed that the Refre team really enjoyed having us there. Not like other hotels in Japan, where people are polite but robotic, we honestly felt more at home at Refre then at some family Christmas lunches! The hotel had such a good vibe, excellent breakfast, great communal area where you can sit and meet other travellers, have a beer or a tea. The private onsen was pretty special, after a day on the mountain, having the option to relax in a thermal onsen was very luxurious. The other great thing about Refre is that they know the town very well, can recommend the best places to eat, where to get gear from and details about each ski resort that you wouldn’t know. We will be back, for longer and telling all our friends to book at Refre!
Nothing!

The team at Refre were fantastic. The hosts Jen and Pete were extremely helpful and knowledgeable of Myoko and the surrounding areas. The hotel facilities were very good and exceeded our expections. We were well fed with good quality food which kept us going on the slopes for a full day. I would happily stay at Refre again and will reccomend this place to family sand friends.
We didn't have any issues at all at this property. For people who prefer personal private bathrooms may consider alternatives, we found the shared onsen perfectly fine and clean.

Really friendly Aussie owners who know Myoko well and who couldn't be more welcoming. Refre feels like a home, with the bonus of a hotel standard onsen and good sized, comfy hotel rooms. Breakfast was great: Cook to order options, chia and cereal plus homemade sourdough bread. Situated right opposite Myoko Snowsports (rental and lessons) which also has Panorama cafe. At the beginning of the main street full of Akakura Onsen's restaurant scene - usually full of life in non-covid times. Ideal location for town and slopes!
Honestly nothing could be improved!

Beautiful hotel in a perfect location for the ski lifts. The owners, Peter and Jenny and the team made us feel very welcome and it felt like a home from home. The breakfast was always amazing! Really nice common areas to relax and unwind in and the hotel onsen was great after a day on the slopes. My partner made good use of the onsite physio - Don is an excellent physio and worked his magic. We stayed over the New Year holidays and the team made us feel very welcome and it was nice to share a drink with their friends and family. Thank you! We would definitely visit again.

The people. It is called a “hotel”, which I suppose it is with 1 large floor of very clean, well kept and accommodating rooms with comfortable western-style beds and Japanese Futon. But the atmosphere is very different than your standard hotel run by robot-like staff. This place is much more welcoming and heartwarming by the way they instantly make you feel like a well-cared-for member of the family. You won’t regret choosing this hotel where you can’t help feeling like you wished you could stay longer.
Oh, I forgot to mention the top-notch Onsen baths separated into men’s and women’s baths that even accommodate reservations so a family can have a private Onsen to themselves and they also don’t frown on guests with tattoos like most Japanese do. Also very nutritious meals that give you the energy to enjoy all the outdoor activities!
That we couldn’t stay longer.

First of all, Mr. Peter and Ma’am Jennifer are wonderful host. They assisted us and made us feel comfortable. I love our room, the location, it’s near from everything. It has an onsen. And I really love the breakfast they prepared for us. Hope to be back and stay there again next time.

The hosts went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable. The hotel itself is well appointed and in great condition, and located in central Akakura Onsen with ski hire and plenty of restaurants to choose from.
