The Royal Palm Hotel is a charming old style residence that sits in the back drop of Camel Back mountain. The staff were wonderful and friendly. Barbara who showed us to our room was lovely pointing out all the hotel features. And Jesse who served out breakfast on both days couldn’t have been more helpful – I’m sure he’ll go far.
Firstly as a wheelchair accessible room we were very pleased with having a 1st floor room that looked across the pool over to the mountain. As an early riser I was very much looking forward to a coffee watching the sun rise listening to the birds. Unfortunately this was not to be as three leaf blowers commenced every morning around 5.30am. This was an unpleasant morning alarm and ruined the opportunity for a quiet coffee.
Then there is the case of use been bitten. After our first night we both woke to little red welts on us. My wife insisted that these were mosquito bites – I wasn’t so sure. After the second night we woke with even more bite marks and we were both scratching the itches which of course made them worse. After arriving home my wife went to the pharmacy to get some antihistamine and cream. At this point she was told they were bed bug bites. One recognisable pointer is that they have slightly brown centres and tend to track in a line which is unlike mosquito bites. To say we were not pleased is an understatement.
We arrived at the Royal Palm Hotel and at no point did anyone mention a charge for parking. Not the actual valet, the reception guys when checking in and I don’t remember booking.com mentioning this either. So to be hit with a $38/night parking charge was a complete surprise.
Then we had the State Occupancy Tax of 7.27% which as a tourist you quickly get used to. But it was strange to then get the City Occupancy Tax of 5.3% which we hadn’t been charged elsewhere in Phoenix.
Then there was the Resort Fee which was a flat rate of $35/day.
Then there was the Resort Fee State Occupancy Tax of 7.27% and then on top of this was the Resort Fee City Occupancy Tax of 5.3%. Then just in case that wasn’t enough there was the Misc Sales Tax again a flat rate of $3.27.
So overall from an initial charge per night of $391 we ended up with extra charges of £129.82 per night.

The history wall.
The air conditioning in the room did not work at all. It was hot the entire night. The back door to our patio had a large gap and we woke up with multiple misquotes in our room + bites.

The property itself is wonderful, I loved many private areas that guests can hangout at, the cigar room was cozy and nice to spend time at.
I expected the better quality of the rooms. Our room had one chair and one armchair for 2 people. It wasn't furnished according to the expectation. Bed was comfortable. Fridge is full of alcohol and I rather have room for a yogurt or anything that I need to keep there. There was only coffee and not tea bags.

a little hard to learn your way around…such a spread out property. took me 4 days to learn my way from my room to the Reception area! it is marked so you have to look for the signage.

This place was pure heaven! I loved it from the minute the sweetest elderly lady walked me to my room. Such a wonderful way to begin.
Followed by a lovely drink brought to me by very nice staff poolside.
Thank you it was wonderful.
My trip was too short.
It was a bit pricey.

we didn't get the breakfast... not informed at check in that was part of our stay, We definitely would have taken advantage if that was told to us. The pool and staff were excellent!!! Best part of our stay.
The pictures on the web were not what the resort looks like in person...it was much more old & run down. The room was not very clean, the fridge didn't work , another had to be wheeled in. I was with my disabled mom who needed to have her meds cool. All in all I was a little disappointed at price of the room versus what I saw online of what to expect.

The staff was vey polite and professional, especially Anna.
The room was very clean comfortable and unique, we were offered an upgrade which was especially nice, and the complimentary champagne upon arrival was an excellent touch.
I actually cannot think of any negative aspects, we will return in the near future.
