Drab and food was late being prepared and no condiments for eggs. No butter or margarine.
I arrived and night staff gave me room key. Room 218 was drab and needed repairs, No phone, TV did not work, wall heater was blowing cold air on a 40 degree day, door jam lock was missing. I asked for new room and night staff gave me room 211. Better room but phone did not work. Started to get ready for shower on my second night there and heard 3 loud gunshot type noises. Could not call 911 with out of order phone. Called front desk and reported. They seemed skeptical and told me no one else heard them. Night staff (same staff) kept calling me for and then told me to come downstairs to talk to Owner. They all said no one heard noises. I was in the Marines for 9 years and no what gunfire sounds like. It was right outside my window or in a nearby room. I internally dived to the floor when I heard the noise. The owner and staff reported nothing happened and they never called the police it seems. I did not stay my 3rd night and was not refunded.

We were upgraded to a king suite for free due to over booking., quite area
As for the room we had, it was in dire need of a remodel. The tile floor was glued down with gaps. You could see the subfloor. The walls had areas of repair that were started but never completed, such as drywall mud applied but never sanded in spots, and definitely not painted. Room smelt damp and dank. We opened the mini fridge and had a bag of texas toast that was left behind. The larger of the two microwaves in the room would not run for 30 seconds due to tripping the gfi. This day and age to not have an HD TV, I would think would be unheard of for the money and establishment, but here you go. Breakfast was free, and it showed. Pre-made cold hard biscuits and warm gravy in a crockpot, as well as scrambled eggs. The juice machine was out of order. Had butter for your bagel as well as cream cheese, but it was a shared block of cream cheese, not individual packs!!

It was OK but then you had the lady working that said she was closing it down early
The staff member that was rude and making rude comments. Every time I ran across her. And I even told her that she had a smart ass mouth and she let me know that she didn’t care and I could check out and leave right now because they were understaffed. I let her know I’m in administrator of a nursing home so I know I deal with it every day but if I talk to people like she did, I wouldn’t have a job she let me know she’s been there in 14 years and wasn’t nothing going to happen to her and her general manager that came in on second shift upheld for her I was appalled I also let them know that I understood that’s why I didn’t complain about the toilet stool that was loose from the floor that they gave us one washcloth for three kids and two adults. Then we asked for more wash clause they gave us three more. The main light was out in the bathroom. We use the light that was in the shower, there was two other lights out the room was the sea bugs in the windowsill. The chair was broke. They went to the desk a matter fact. I sat in it and fell all the way backwards, but I could go on and on, but like I said, I never complain because I knew they were busy. Oh, then the pool did not open until about 1 o’clock they let me know because it was a mess and the rude lady again said , I don’t know when it will be open. I have to get in there. It’s a mess and I need to chlorinate the water, but it was mostly her tone in the way that she said things.

I prefer Sleep Inns when traveling

We had stayed several weeks before at a Sleep Inn in central Pennsylvania. We booked this room in Decatur because of the very positive experience previously. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean.
Breakfast was disappointing. Many things were gone/empty, and when ask if there was more available they apologized that there was not. Yes, we were later in the breakfast schedule. However, basic things that are there all the time were empty (3 empty jars of tea bags, etc).

Location to family
Clean your overall hotel. Appearance is everything and you were borderline a dive. Don’t dive off the deep end and clean your facility. Maybe get rid of old carpet.

The front desk staff, Victoria, was phenomenal. She was very helpful, interacted, and accommodated requests and provided answers to all questions regarding the facilities. She went above and beyond and deserves a raise or bonus!
Some people were apparently smoking cigarettes and Marijuana in the hotel as the odor was strong at times. One guest was loud in her conversation when trying to sleep.

The staff was nice.
The door was messed up, and the toilet seat looked like it had been melted.

location
no smoke detector in the room, we were on the first floor and the outside window did not lock, the shower had a slope in the back that almost caused me to fall, and the toilet was too low to the ground

The availability
We've stayed a few times now and each time the hotel is just getting worse. Our plug ins in the wall behind the tv come completely out of the wall, the hair dryer plug in itself was basically in pieces. We were put into a room with a leaky shower that wouldn't stop just to be transferred to a room that smelled like a morgue. Hotel quality is slipping fast. Holes in the roof above ice machine with exposed insulation and wiring. Breakfast room microwave was covered in food and filthy both days.

nice and clean!
I have a hard time sleeping in hotel beds, and last night was no exception. Not your fault. Water pressure in shower could have been stronger.

They don’t serve breakfast. The location is far from everything nothing but corn fields surrounding the hotel and area.
I didn’t like the location, the dim rooms with the lights on.

The hotel is conveniently located next to the truck stop and highway but far enough away where there is no traffic noise to keep you awake.

not sure if there's anything likable. they managed to get connecting rooms.
the "hot" breakfast is a broke waffle maker and a toaster. otherwise it's the usual fare, yogurt, bananas, cereal. Oh, I guess they had some hard tack biscuits and something that resembled gravy. the back door lock was broke, the pool water stunk, overall the place felt dingy and musty and it was pretty dirty. I won't stay at another sleep inn if I can help it. Overall though the place is a perfect fit for Decatur.
