The location was outstanding. It is in a pretty, tree lined, neighborhood of well maintained private homes, within walking distance of several excellent restaurants. There were pleasant places to sit in the morning and afternoon with a cup of coffee or glass of wine. Parking was convenient. There was a complementary glass of good quality wine and a plate of packaged cheese, nuts, dried fruit and crackers in the late afternoon. Standing in line for the plate and wine to be distributed by the receptionist was a little off-putting to me, but my wife didn't mind it. The staff was generally friendly and welcoming.
Breakfast cost $15 a person and was underwhelming and not worth it. It consisted of a tiny cup of diced fruit, eggs ("so long as they can be prepared in a skillet," the waitress told us when I asked for poached eggs), slices of packaged bread, a glass of fruit juice out of a box or bottle and coffee or tea. Cereal and milk were also available. Our room looked old and shabby, it had been repainted too often without removing the old coats, and the paint on the walls and ceiling were cracked and peeling in many places. Most disconcerting was the walk-in shower. Grout between the tiles on the floor and parts of the shower walls were black with what I assume is mold. I reported the problem to the receptionist and asked it to be cleaned and, in the meantime, to provide a latex bath mat so we didn't have to stand on the moldy tiles. No cleaning during our three nights stay, but a new bath mat was furnished promptly. It was pretty disgusting and we considered leaving, but we were too tired from traveling to search for another hotel, so we stayed and lived with the situation. There were no real amenities in the room--tiny, thin bars of soap in a little package and pump bottles of low quality liquid soap installed in the shower. The towels were well used and thin. There were bathrobes, but they were also well used and need to be replaced. No slippers.

Our charming sunlit room in this beautifully restored but 1920’s hotel had a walk-in closet, a bay window and comfy chairs. Friendly staff, exquisite touches thru out & complimentary wine at 5 pm. The breakfast is a reasonably priced restaurant-style meal. Quiet residential area with free parking and a great mattress made for a good night’s sleep .
Memorable stay. Planning our return

The breakfasts were very healthy, gourmet with lots of choices. It was close enough to downtown to walk, yet located in quiet neighborhood.
Nothing. The accommodations were perfect!

This isn’t a polished chain hotel interested in turnover. It is a historic building with a small dedicated staff that you will see everyday. The cool breeze porches and wines and cheese at 4:30 led to great conversations with other guests. This was an experience, not a place to sleep only. It is close enough to walk downtown but in a quiet secluded spot. The garden out back is ideal for sitting.

Very quiet location and a twenty minute walk to downtown. Friendly staff and every evening there were complimentary drinks and hors d'oeuvres which were delicious. Lots of space around the hotel to enjoy. Great changing breakfast menus in the morning.
Had to report that the AC unit in the bedroom was faulty and it was not able to be repaired during our stay. The ceiling fan helped and they did offer a portable unit if needed. However the error light could not be turned off and was very bright at night.

We liked the old fashioned charm, including the beautiful staircase and old fashioned elevator! The staff was extremely nice, helpful and accommodating. The Happy Hour in the Lounge was a welcome surprise and the breakfast was restaurant style and very good. Loved the location - very near to restaurants, coffee shops, and convenient to downtown and the River Arts District. (Though not really walkable distance.)
Can't think of a thing.

we could bring our dogs. we had more space than a hotel. The location
only at night dogs could hear the walking of the people upstairs.
the tv worked from 9-920 then it lost the connection.

nice quiet neighborhood, complimentary happy hour, great breakfast included
not very walkable to downtown restaurants and attractions

Breakfast was excellent with various excellent options every day.
Excellent location in a quiet neighborhood with walking distance from cafés, restaurants and supermarkets.
Excellent service, all the staff were very attentive, ready to help answering questions, given directions, recommendations, really nice.
Excellent and included happy hour with a good selection of wines and hors d'oeuvre.
Social areas are very nice.
Being an old building with wood floors, the noise when you walk in your bedroom is high. I guess that is normal for an old house but if you are a light sleeper that is a problem.
It needs more maintenance in certain areas. The beautiful deck needs painting, wood repair.

The staff are super nice. The place is very quaint and has charm, convenient parking. They have a great breakfast and happy hour.
Be aware that it’s an old property so floors squeek, a lot at night. Our bathroom needed some remodeling.

Lovely old bnb, but with new furniture and modern touches. Comfortable bed. Kind and helpful staff. Convenient location in a cute and quaint neighborhood. Social hour every afternoon is another plus.
Breakfast is included but requires a reservation. Only time available when we checked in was 8.20 am the day after, which is quite early for a holiday. Breakfast itself was good but a bit lacking.

Breakfasts were excellent with different choices daily. Happy Hour with hordourves was a nice offering - Nice to socialize with other travelers. Also had cookies and brownies daily.
My only complaint was that it was hard to darken the bedroom at bedtime.

We spent the weekend here while in Asheville for a wedding and it was perfect! The breakfast was exceptional, the staff was kind and accommodating (willing to last minute change to room service instead of dining service, asked thoughtful questions about our visit, and always had a smile). The building itself is on the older side, but it adds to the charm, and the rooms are well updated.
The AC could have been better, and you could hear room noise since the walls and windows are thin, but it did not impact our stay

Food was diverse and well prepared and creative, most of all delicious. Staff was excellent and made you feel welcomed. The location is great to access many eateries and or activities. The grounds are nice as well.
The replacement of the furniture with cheap metal and glass is a mistake. The tub sets on an angle and is difficult to enjoy. The kids in the suite next to our room, anniversary celebration looses its luster if you know what I mean??

Friendly staff, Great happy hour and good breakfast.

Food was excellent. Customer service was superb. Neighborhood was great.
Couldn’t control the temperature in the room. It was too hot to sleep…and 3 nights is a long time to go without sleep.

Parlor, large suite, social hour, breakfast.
Room was too light at night. Expensive.

This hotel is absolutely delightful!! My wife and I travel all over the US and stay at a lot of different properties both upscale and budget and can tell you with great confidence, if you like the charm of a historic property that offers not only a step back in time without having to sacrifice our modern needs, this is well worth the visit. The staff were all nice and helpful. The breakfast was amazing, the suite was huge and well appointed. All and all beautiful! Give it a try if you are coming to or passing through Asheville, NC.
I wish we stayed here longer! ;)
