the location and price
we were greeted like we were a bother. The heaters did not work well in either room. The smaller room’s tv did not work and the chair in the room pinched your skin when you sat on it. Both rooms could have used a bit more cleaning.

A few repairs needed that have been taped instead of repaired.

Loved the old time look and feel.
Not much needs to change- maybe a screen door -had ladybugs but they stayed on the ceiling.

Location was great! The room was basic but workable.
Bed was uncomfortable. They don't take credit cards.

The room was decorated like an old fashioned room. It was cozy. Very clean.
Can't say that anything was bothersome to us.

The Western 1857 Saloon Theme was an Authentic experience. The owner must have watched Gunsmoke and Bonanza and did everything possible to continue this Aera. Want to experience the Mississippi River 1800's, this is your chance.
Having a well maintained shiny high gloss oak wood floors in the guest/hotel rooms with one accent rug would go a long way.

The staff was friendly and helpful. He told us all the best places to go and always had a smile. 😊
The room smelled strongly of rotten eggs. We went and got a candle.

Staff was friendly
The heater barely worked and the room was cold. There was a bunch of teabags not enclosed, one had been wet. God only knows the status of the others - gross. The toilet continued running after I flushed and eventually quit flushing at all. I had to take the lid off the tank and fix it every time. The wifi was slow when it even worked at all. There was someone else's food in the fridge - gross.

Stayed in Room #2 on a Monday night and it was mostly quiet. Management did make a bit of an effort with fall wreaths hanging on the doors facing the street. View from the 2nd floor porch overlooking the triangle-shaped park below and a few of the historic buildings across the main road was nice. WiFi service was good. Coffee maker with coffee and tea. Temperature in the room was acceptable. Bed was reasonably comfortable. Somewhat regular daytime train traffic (the tracks run right behind the hotel) but not late at night, and the sound of the train is kind of nice. Door had lock in knob and a deadbolt.
The door to the building was locked when I stopped by about 3:15 after a late lunch. I was “greeted" by a woman who was not welcoming & she did not introduce herself. She was certain to tell me that check-in is at 4:00 but said she’d check me in anyway. When I got my credit card to pay, she told me that they only take cash or check & she had a ready speech about how it states that on their website. She continued to be rude & impatient & unfriendly. I tried to be friendly & make conversation but my attempts were ignored. I left feeling unwelcome, like an inconvenience. Once I got cash from the on-site ATM & handed it to her, she had me wait several minutes to get the change. No one else there. That was just her. Putting me in my place I guess.
Fairly narrow, unpainted stairway with bird poop on several stairs, leading to 2nd floor room. Swarming bee's nest at the top of the stairs. Low voltage bulbs in the overhead light. Two lamps on either side of the bed weren't plugged in. Waste basket sitting on a chair. Broken chair. Tea bags in a basket, loose, for who knows how long or how many have been handled. Small flat screen TV. One window with ripped window shade. Mini fridge.
A train came thru about 6:30 am and activity downstairs started soon after. Bed was acceptable. Pillows were okay. Ripped bedskirt. Bathroom seemed clean but looks like some mold on the tub surround. Remnants of something dripping down the bathroom door & also on the refrigerator door. The ‘fridge had something black inside on the door — I couldn’t identify it & did not investigate. Dust on the lamps.
Definitely cannot recommend. Just make an effort. Be nice. Slow down, stop the pre-rehearsed speech & look at your guest like they're a real person. Be human. Plenty of places nearby in Marquette and Prairie du Chien. This experience left a bad impression of McGregor which is terribly unfortunate.

when we were going to check in they would only take cash . wish we knew that when we booked the room

Great central location had a bar/pub attached to location. Served very good meals and large proportions. Nice large room with plenty of amenities. Reminded us of hotel out of the 1800s rooms located above saloon.
Mattress could have been a little less firm but we slept ok.

The waitress was friendly
We booked 5 months in advance. Arrived to check in, they said “cash only”. I was never advised of this in the 5 months leading up to our stay. THEN I gave $320 cash for a total of $313.60 and the boy didn’t give me change and wrote my receipt for $320?! I was so mad about the cash only and the rudeness of the owner and the boy I didn’t realize I didn’t get the change til the next day and looked at the receipt. I went back in and asked for my change. The boy told me “oh that’s without taxes” I showed him my Booking.com confirmation that clearly stated $313.60 taxes and fees included! He said “well how long ago did you book?” I said 5 months ago. He said well our prices went up, it’s $160 a night! Umm not my problem. I booked at a rate and expected that rate not to mention they already made me pay IN CASH! Said it’s posted 3 times on Booking.com. It’s not! I reserved another room that night just to see and nope, no mention ANYWHERE of cash only. So besides all that craziness the room was dirty. The sink was dirty, the lamp was missing a bulb, a huge WET stain on the underside of the mattress, cobwebs on the lamp, bloody boogers? On the wall, dead insects in the window sill. Dirty wine glasses! Broken kitchen chairs. If it wasn’t octoberfest with everything booked and 9 at night and 3 hours from home we definitely would have LEFT IMMEDIATELY and found other accommodations.

big room. pullout couch. The decor was set to look like when it was built. (1850's). The room I had does have a view of the river. Town looks kinda neat all set up to look like a frontier town still.
Have to pay cash and hand written reciept. As with all towns along the Mississippi there is a lot of train traffic. This is about 100 yards from the track.

No breakfast was available and the in room coffee pot did not work
The hospitality was atrocious. I was accused of booking three rooms. This was correct but I tried to fix it and tried to contact the hotel but they could not help. They said they tried to contact me about this. The only contact was an unidentifiable phone number. The person I spoke with explained that of course, this was her personal cell phone. We were charged $100 flat and could only pay with cash or check. The employee said that this information was on the web site. It was not. Who carries a checkbook these days? The receipt did not even have the name of the hotel on the document. The room was marginally clean. The exterior stair to the second floor does not comply with the ADA. We will never stay at this hotel snd will not recommend it to anyone!
Also, the bathroom was not clean. We did not shower because the towels looked used.

People and staff are great!!!! Location is perfect!
The only thing I would say is they need to clean more. It seems to be more lax than it used to be in the past. We had open soap in the tub, paper and Kleenex right under bed and fridge wasn’t wiped off on top. With COVID etc this should be stepped up MORE than usual but I love this place and will continue to stay here

The room was clean and neat, just perfect for our needs! Also, we knew we would arrive a bit later than the stated check in time, and they were able to accommodate that.
We were surprised to hear the freight train that ran behind the building, but after 9 pm it wasn't an issue.

Loved location & the porch to sit on!
Water wasn't very hot.

Room was super cute. Nice balcony with chairs for watching street view. Great food in restaurant below and the coldest beer I have ever tasted.
Not a fan of showering with curtain inside tub. Found dead bug between sheets when turning down for the night. A microwave would have come in handy.

Nostalgic
It’s not a traditional room. It’s a room above a restaurant/bar. With that said it was quite clean as most really don’t have complaints
