The hotel was once a mental hospital, adding an air of mystery and inviting exploration. The renovated interior is modern and clean. Rooms are comfortable and big enough.
During my stay at the Richardson Hotel, I was charged multiple times for no reasons, even though typically only one deposit is required. At checkout, some of these charges were canceled, but they still charged me a "no show fee" because their system showed I had booked two rooms on the same date, which was not true. Despite explaining the situation, they refused to refund me, citing that the manager was unavailable and they lacked the authority.
I eventually had to seek help from Booking.com's customer service to resolve the issue. The whole process took two months, and I learned that Booking.com also faced difficulties negotiating with the hotel because the manager was unavailable.
The hotel's inefficiency and irresponsible attitude towards guests left me extremely disappointed. I will never choose this hotel again.

The building.
The area was not very walkable.

A very interesting building with a lot of restoration taking place
For the Price $$$ we found it didn’t meet our expectations of service.Breakfast was a laugh.
Holiday weekend the breakfast area was not suitable for the amount of people wanting to get breakfast. Both mornings no butter no Milk. 1st morning assumed it had just been used and asked for a replenishment.Thiss replenishment did not arrive in time for our breakfast. 2nd Morning thought will go down at 6:30 as it opened, same no Milk nor butter.

4.5
Large comfortable King room with tall ceilings & natural light/views.
Wonderful historical preservation & conversion of the original building.
Small museum & Architecture center for history of the building.
Great location for visits to the FLW Martin House or the AKG gallery.
Restaurant & bar was not open on the night we stayed.
Room had some mechanical sounds in the night.
Breakfast room needs more small tables for guests.

Beautiful to walk around and look at everything, where typically I would go directly to the room. The bartender Chris made our night!!! Such a great employee and very knowledgeable. Very inviting to come back. He’s the Best!!
Only negative is it’s a lot of walking. Maybe another exit would be nice.

Very unique. We’ll maintained. Clean and spacious.
A bit dark on the grounds at night. The service at the restaurant and bar could be more polished.

Fantastisches Hotel. Altes Schloss umgewandelt in ein modernes Hotel, mmit riesigen Gängen, sehr schön dekoriert. Hohe Decken und moderne komfortable Zimmer. Kleine Kritik: Frühstück - leider kein Brot, Toast oder Bagles.

The room was newly furnished, clean and comfortable.
The check in desk was a floor above the parking lot, Signs to check in pointed up a staircase, requiring us to carry our bags up the stairs to the next level. While there was an elevator on a hallway behind the staircase, there was no sign indicating the availability of an elevator. There was no valet service to help with our bags or provide direction.
4.5
The architecture and the history behind it all. Everything was clean and the interior design. .
Upon upon entering the bathroom there was distinct, urine smell and mildew in the shower. It could have been a lot cleaner.
4.5
Gorgeous renovation of a historic property. Lots of space, tons of character, pleasant staff.
We didn’t see any ghosts!

Loved the smell of the linens--sunshine!
The maize like, confusing path to my room

What I personally liked was the location of the Hotel. Definitely the gardens and the architecture are really nice. Also I found the personnel quite friendly. They had my luggage and took care of it all Saturday and part of the Sunday. The room was comfortable and had everything that was necessary.
The main reason for my overall grade is that they were not clear about the deposit. I think they should include this on the information of the room and on the profile. I do not have issue to pay a deposit of $100 USD, my problem was that this deposit has not got back to me. They were not clear about how they would return it and just limited themselves to “It depends on the bank”.

The staff was exceptionally helpful and attentive. We had to stay over during an extended snowstorm. The staff responded with exceptional hospitality and attention to the needs of the stranded guests.

The bartenders at Bar Vaux were phenomenal!
Not much parking.

I really like staying in historic buildings. The bed was comfortable and the furnishings were nice. A staff member printed out a history of the hotel, which was interesting.
The room was too cold and we could not adjust the heat. Water from the shower ran all over the floor. There was no complimentary breakfast.

Beautiful facility and very comfortable beds. The coffee was awesome in the morning, and the shower was great!
It was a little bit of a walk to our room.

Great value for historic hotel. Renovation looks great.

Location was great for where I needed to be. not ideal if you want “downtown”
some of the details that seem small were overlooked. no hand soap in the room. no housekeeping on short stays including refilling the coffee station in room. shower set up looks great but is atrocious. No fridge or microwave or anything.
4.5
Reminded me of Hogwarts. I thought I was in a Harry Potter scene. I like that it has character. The staff were very helpful.
The atmosphere of the place seemed cold. Definitely not warm & cozy. A very huge hotel which was a former asylum.
4.5
Inside the hotel is beautiful. Different areas/types of room have different feels. Set up really well mixing modern hotel with the history of the building. Nicely done. Staff was great!
The exterior/campus is mildly scary if you have no idea what you are heading for.
4.5
Beautiful, well appointed.
I arrived late and left early so had minimal time to enjoy my stay. The close parking lot was full, it was raining. And I was informed at check in that the kitchen was closing in 10-15 minutes. I was very hungry but still had to get my belongings from my car, park in the second lot and by the time I got to the bar I was only able to have 1 cocktail. Had there been a valet or bellhop, I likely could have made a quick order before the kitchen closed and had a healthy snack after being on the road all day.
I had an early appointment the next morning, so when I woke up to check about breakfast, realized there was no included option for breakfast, so without having eaten the night before or in the morning, the justification for the cost for the night seemed too high. I opted for a higher nightly rate when looking for accommodations, knowing I was driving for 6 hours and getting up early. At the very least I wasn’t going to stay at a chain hotel with breakfast but questionable comfort.

Beautifully restored and updated building along with excellent staff. Nice cafe and restaurant inside. Close to our Buffalo marathon weekend and Project 33 memorial run on Memorial day.
No fridge or microwave in room which we found standard in every hotel we've stayed regardless of price or rating. Spending four nights there took a little more effort and cost with out those items. Staying the long weekend for the Buffalo Marathon and those would've been welcomed.
