Thalassotherapy centers, golf, tennis, horse riding, mountain biking, surfing, windsurfing, kite-surfing and paragliding locally.
Families will enjoy the long sandy beaches and warm climate, and the exhilarating Atlantic surf makes windsurfing and surf riding very popular here, not to mention the more extreme water sports such as kite surfing and hang-gliding. The surrounding area is a golfer's paradise, with no less than 12 first class golf links and courses within easy reach. Then there's horse riding, biking, tennis; the possibilities are endless. After all this action, perhaps a visit to one of the many thalassotherapy centers will relax you, or there's always the chocolate museum in Biarritz!
Biarritz is a very smart town with fine shops and a casino. The aquarium and sea museum are well worth a visit, or you could take a trip on the train into the Basque mountains. To the east is Bayonne with its attractive historic Centre, and to the south is fashionable St Jean de Luz and the Spanish border. Inland are pretty villages such as Espelette, where you can see the locally-grown red peppers strung up from houses typical of the region, with their distinctive red and green-painted shutters. Why not take in a match of Basque pelota, one of the region's principal sports? And do try some of the local specialties while you're here, such as the spicy hams and chocolate from Bayonne and gateau Basque (Basque cake) filled with cream or cherries.
With its tremendous location close to the sea this appealing Anglet villa is very well positioned for exploring the southern part of the Atlantic coast and the Pays Basque, and for making the most of everything that chic Biarritz has to offer.
