EDINBURGH'S HISTORIC CENTRE
Edinburgh has been the Scottish capital since the 15th century. It has two distinct areas; the Old Town, dominated by Edinburgh Castle and its medieval street layout and the planned neoclassical New Town with its beautiful Georgian streets and buildings. The harmonious juxtaposition of these two contrasting areas, each with many important buildings, is what gives Edinburgh its unique character. These two areas, the Old Town and the New Town, are separated by the broad, green swath of Princes Street Gardens.
The New Town was the solution to the problem of an increasingly crowded city and was constructed from 1767 onwards. The Old and New Towns of Edinburgh are UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Thistle Street and Rose Street were named after the national emblems of Scotland and England.
EDINBURGH ATTRACTIONS
The city hosts the annual Edinburgh International Festival which is one of many events that run between the end of July and early September each year. The festival comprises the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the Edinburgh International Festival, the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, the Edinburgh International Book Festival and the Edinburgh Film Festival.
Edinburgh has many museums, art galleries and visitor attraction. These include Edinburgh Castle, National Museum of Scotland, Real Mary King’s Close, Palace of Holyroodhouse, Royal Botanic Gardens, Scottish National Gallery, the newly refurbished Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Greyfriar’s Bobby Memorial, Scottish National gallery of Modern Art, National Library of Scotland, Museum of Childhood and many more.
Edinburgh Zoo, covering 82 acres on Corstorphine Hill, is the second most popular paid tourist attraction in Scotland and currently home to two giant pandas, Tian Tian and Yang Guang, on loan from the People's Republic of China.
Edinburgh is also home to The Royal Yacht Britannia, decommissioned in 1997 and now a five-star visitor attraction and evening events venue permanently berthed at Ocean Terminal.

Very central spot, surrounded by good restaurants and a coffee roastary across the road! Terrific spot to explore Edinburgh.
4.8
Great location and lovely flat.
Pros:
It was easy to get to and communication with host was good.
Close to everything including good food!
The main bed is very comfortable
It was very cold out but heating lovely.
The bath/shower was nice and roomy with good pressure and hot water.
We weren’t able to get washer/ dryer to turn on despite instructions and the internet was spotty.
The only real con was the pull out bed was not at all comfortable and
It would have been helpful if the flat was better stocked; there was no tissue or paper towels, one kitchen towel and only one roll of toilet paper for 2 people for 4 days.

Communication with the owner was great. Location was perfect. We’d come back.
4.8
Comfortable, warm, clean. Adequate for two but would have been very squashed for 4. On line listing needs updating. Bathroom ok but tired.
4.8
Beautiful clean flat, handy central location, highly recommend !!
4.8
Excellent location with all the nice thoughtful touches - instructions manual, recommendations for pubs & restaurants in the immediate area. Would definitely stay there again.

Thanks Graeme. We had a lovely time in our first visit to your lovely city. A large component in that was your beautiful apartment. Safe, quiet, neighborhood with great restaurants very close by. We found our go to coffee shop and pub on the very street. We hope to be back again. Tom and Beth.

The whole rental process was easy and our host very informative. We were within walking distance to almost everywhere we wanted to go within town. The apartment was very clean and had everything we needed for our stay. Would definitely recommend this rental.

We loved staying at 47 Thistle Street. You can walk to just about anywhere in the city most tourists want to visit. Old Town, Edinburgh Castle are just a short walk(wear stable shoes for cobblestone) We highly recommend White Horse Oyster restaurant. New Town had tons of great restaurants you can pop into, though reservations are taken in the smallest places even. Thistle Street Bar below was a great place for drinks and music & the bartender was generous with his whisky knowledge. This flat was a perfect place to relax after a day of exploring. We'd definitely stay here again.

The apartment was close to everything we wanted to see. It was clean and comfortable.
4.8
We found the process and communication with host very easy and assuring.

Our booking and check-in process went very smoothly. Of note this is an upper floor apartment without a lift. We had arrived from the Cotswolds and had a converted barn apartment for the same price as a central Edinburgh flat. For the market it is a good value, just not to the expectations we had. I think the biggest reaso were the pictures in the listing show a bright light feel. Wherein reality the flat felt very used and dim. I would recommend this apartment as you will not finder a better location for the price.
4.8
We had a lovely stay in the flat. Clean, comfortable and very close to everything.
4.8
As advertised, very clean and comfortable
Matched the pictures, king size bed was welcome and the location was great for exploring both new and old town
4.8
Delightful home away from home. Easy walk to all the sites. Everything is as advertised and more.
I highly recommend this property for short or long stays. The little gas fireplace made it so cozy. The flat is equipped with everything that you might need, tastefully decorated and feels like a home not a rental.
4.8
Well appointed and in a good location
The property had everything we needed and was perfect for the wedding we attended at the Royal College of Physicians less than 5 minutes away.

Super flat. Perfect location for us. Graeme, the owner, was most attentive and very responsive to any emails which we sent. Liza was also wonderfully friendly and charming.

City centre flat
Very nice flat, ideally situated for sightseeing in Edinburgh. Every requirement is met and the entry information comprehensive . Very comfortable bed. It is described as “luxury” but I would say “very , very good” because the plastic shower area could do with a little upgrading to warrant the “luxury” description. We enjoyed our stay.
4.8
Ideally positioned flat for the Book Festival and many other Festival and Fringe venues
A small flat that perfectly met our needs as Festival goers who were out from 10am until late. (Its only limitation is a tiny kitchen with an awkwardly positioned sink so it wouldn't be good for anyone planning any serious cookery.)

Eburgh Getaway
Fantastic flat!!!! Thoughtfully decorated with all the amenities we would need: information about the surrounding area, excellent location, directions on how to use everything, coffee/tea service, fresh milk in the fridge, an entry way with a coat rack and mirror, linen,...appreciated that it felt like home. The flat is clean and well maintained. Graeme was super easy to get hold of with any questions. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay there and have already recommended it to family who want to come to Edinburgh.

An Excellent Flat
The flat was everything we'd wished for when we signed up for it. It was close to restaurants, grocery stores, and cultural attractions. It was clean, well organized, and clear directions were provided about how to do everything. We would recommend it to a friend, for certain.
4.8
Perfect!
Exactly as detailed and expected. Bed and bedroom particularly comfortable for a rejuvenating sleep. Location perfect and rather quiet at the same time. Bar downstairs (quiet and closes early) is a hit, esp. on nights when there is live music; quite a local experience. As many diverse restaurants as you want within 5 minutes'walk.
4.8
PERFECT!!
If I could give this property more than five stars I would. The perfect flat in the perfect location. Very modern and well appointed apt. Thistle Street itself has great shops and restaurants and is VERY quiet.
4.8
Family Friendly
The apartment was small but perfect for my husband and I and our two kids. There are lots of restaurants and even a grocery store nearby. The location can't be beat - close to the bus and train station and a fairly easy walk to the castle. The owners were very helpful, friendly, and easy to reach through the VRBO app messenger.
4.8
A perfect Gem in New Town!
The apartment was perfect for my wife and I; clean, great location , comfortable bed and room to relax after a long day seeing the sights. Graeme was quick to respond to our emails, and provided helpful information about the area. Easy access to public transit, great restaurants, and the royal mile. Check out Marlayne's restaurant down the street and take a stroll through Princes Grardens!
Thanks Graeme for providing a 5 star accommodation!

Cute and clean
Very well located and comfortable accommodation
4.8
Great city getaway!
A lovely, clean and cosy flat in a perfect central location for our short city break. We especially appreciated the early check-in of Noon and the welcome pack of milk, tea and coffee. Easy to book, prompt responses and considerate hosts. We look forward to our next visit!
4.8
Charming apartment, excellent location
The Thistle Street apartment is just as charming, tidy, and well-appointed as represented in the listing. Firm mattress, ample pillows and towels, washer/dryer combo, strong WiFi throughout. Excellent New Town location, very convenient to all the tourist areas. Lots of shops and restaurants nearby. Graeme recommended Chez Jules and I concur that it’s a great French restaurant, good value.
4.8
Charming flat in a walk-to-it-all location
My husband and I had a fantastic stay in this little gem of a flat. Communication was excellent, and entry was easy and convenient. The flat itself is adorable, clean, comfortable, nicely appointed and decorated. There were lots of nice touches too, such as brochures for attractions in the city. The best thing about this apartment is its location-you walk out the door and you are in the middle of it all. We would definitely stay at this flat again!
4.8
Perfect spot for us!
We loved this apartment and would rent it again in a heartbeat. As others have said, the location cannot be beat! The living room and bedroom are very spacious and beautifully decorated. We especially appreciated the firm bed mattress. We are old(er) and found the 33 steps not difficult to navigate even with our luggage. Graeme and Ailsa have thought of everything for their guests including very clear instructions on access to the unit, checking-in and checking-out. Our only regret is that we simply forgot to try the whisky kindly provided (for a very modest donation). Clearly we have to return to Edinburgh!

Perfectly situated for visiting the City sites with wonderful restaurants in walking distance
Property was everything we expected

Comfortable apartment in the heart of city
We spent 10 days at Thistle Street, we used the washing machine, and gas fire as the evenings were turning colder. the apartment has central heating and apartment was warm and comfortable, we appreciated the coffee, tea and milk and generous offering of whiskey. Apartment located close to centre but surprisingly quiet in the evenings for a city centre location. There is an oven, microwave, dish washer too. Only one small difficulty for us, we could not get Netflix on the TV screen, but that might be down to our lack of IT skills. The wifi connection was good. Overall an enjoyable stay, we also appreciated the amount of information provided by Graeme on local amenities, and on household appliances. We would be pleased to return.
4.8
Loved the location
The apartment is very comfortable within walking distance to everything. It's surrounded by tons of restaurants, but it's very quiet in the evening? I highly recommend it and would stay there again.
4.8
Comfortable, quiet oasis near train station
We enjoyed our stay at this apartment. Comfortable bed and living room. Enjoyed having a fireplace for the evenings. Washer and dryer were a plus.
So close to the train station, that it was easy to do day trips. Walkable to the Royal Mile and very central.
Appreciated that we could arrive early and leave our bags.
Thank you!
