About this villa rental
This 17th century villa has been lovingly restored to reflect life as it was when it was built.
The villa consists of a central body 'ANTICA RESIDENZA 120 sqm', and 7 additional independent houses.
Through the vegetable garden, and orchard you have access to the houses. Each house has its own private kitchen, bathroom and outdoor area. All the rooms exude a Mediterranean atmosphere, a journey through the sensations and colours of Sicily. The interior has been restored with local natural materials and is furnished in traditional Sicilian country style, with items that show total respect for the history and background of things.
VILLA SALINARA is surrounded by nature and culture, and is a few steps from the sea. Time flows slowly, away from the increasing pace of the big cities. It is a place of indisputable charm, surrounded by thousands of colours from the salt pans at sunset, with rare pink flamingos that hover between the old windmills.
There are many typical eno-gastronomic products, the famous local wineries producing Marsala wine, Olive Oil “Nocellara of Belice”, the local sheep cheese, ricotta-filled cannoli from Dattilo, the popular cous cous with fish soup.
I invite you to take one of “Katia’s cooking classes”. I promise you'll laugh AND learn and eat some unforgettable food!
For those who love sports can enjoy sailing, windsurfing, kite surfing, horses and fishing.
Some of our first guests explained it best:
“An example of artistic and ethical recovery in Sicily on the edge of a nature reserve.”
“After we got up this morning, we went out with the bikes, we saw the sea, the vineyards and the windmills. So we decided this just might be the most beautiful place on earth”
Come to have a magical stay.

Yumi & Adriano Were the most amazing hosts. Our entire group were made to feel so welcome and they both went over and beyond to help accommodate us during our stay.
The Villa was not only comfortable but beautifully restored and stylish.
We cannot thank Yumi & Adriano enough for all their outstanding hospitality. You truly are running a business not only based in passion but from your heart!

Our party of 4 adults stayed for 12 days at the beginning of September 2014 at Villa Salinara, near Marsala in the province of Trapani, Sicily. We stayed in two parts of the large house - the lovely Emporio of Grapes and the smaller and less fancy Aqua Santa house. The Emporio was impressive on arrival, Aqua Santa less so. One wall of Aqua Santa needed painting following some re plastering works but it provided a large airy room with a fantastic shower room. Emporio is stunning - being a former chapel it has a lovely high roof above a fantastic long dining table and comfy lounge area. It has a beautiful and practical kitchen. The fridge freezer clucks like a chicken which made us laugh but it was ample and an excellent place to store our grappa! The bathroom is a bit dark and would be nicer if painted a lighter colour. At first one can be forgiven for thinking some things here are a little basic - but as the cares of every day life fall away as you relax into your stay the simplicity of the accommodation and beauty of the stone, marble, tiles and wood around you helps to accelerate that feeling of chilling out and generally focussing on the simple sheer beauty of the place. The grounds are pretty and we loved using the outdoor barbecue area each night with bats flying low over the fig trees at dusk. There is a pretty secluded grassy area with hammocks under trees at the front of the property for a relaxing space too. Shan the Sri Lankan general tinkerer and odd job chap on site is lovely, bringing us fresh eggs from the resident hens most days . Ever helpful with directions and on hand to sort any issues around such as a loss of hot water to the shower sometimes! Immediately resolving things which was great. Adriano and Yumi the owners are also most helpful. Adriano gave us a good grounding in things to do and see in the area and their very helpful leaflet about the house and the surrounding area is fantastic. The restaurant recommendations good - especially La Pineta at Selinute which was a fantastic beach restaurant. Marsala was lovely and the fresh fish and produce market a must for the wonderful large barbecue in the garden that you just have to use. Roasted sea bream and courgettes do very nicely on it! And we would recommend amongst many other things a visit to Favignana, Egadi island. Take the ferry from Marsala, hire bikes and explore. If you are looking for a peaceful, simple and rejuvenating stay Vila Salinara is ideal.

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here. I was welcomed by Adriano and Yumi. The villa is full of beautiful details, it's spacious and my room had a very comfortable bed. Yumi prepared a delicious strawberries marmalade and Adriano was able to give me tips of where to go around Marsala.
The best part about Villa Salinara is its location, a 5 min walk to the sea which has a small wooden bridge on the sand with clean blue waters and plenty of sun!
This place is nice to stay and exactly as described! Sitting at the balcony and looking at the sun dawn into the see - face to face to Africa - great!
Many household machines for cooking and washing, even a juicer, and also WiFi - perfect!
We enjoyed to stay there and will come back another time! THANKS!!!

We had a great stay at Villa Salinara. We were greeted with a beautifully illuminated villa, local wine, local bread, dry tomatoes, and instructions containing anything and everything we could possibly need in english.
This place has the best of both worlds-the privacy and beauty of being in nature. If you're looking for a unique and memorable experience, this is the location for you.
It was very clean, spacious and tastefully decorated with gorgeous authentic tiles and lovely old furniture. The bathrooms facilities were good (powerful hot shower) and having a kitchen was great. We didn't expect to cook much but actually ended up making food a couple of nights. There is a fantastic food shop close by and the tomatoes from the vegetable garden were incredible! Not to mention the lemons and the figs!
Adriano is such a lovely person, he communicated well with us and picked us up from the airport, and went out of his way to help us to find the restaurant.
Location is good if you don't want to be surrounded by tourists.
We had a fantastic time and would recommend to all of our friends and family in Japan. Thank you Yumi and Adriano!

We spend one week in this beautiful apartment in June 2011. It was absolutely fabulous. This old traditional building is lovely reconstructed and decorated up to every detail! It has this lovely atmosphere of an rustic sicilian cottage.
Yumi and Adriano were perfect hosts making us feel as their welcomed guests, they showed us around in the area and gave us tips where to go or where to buy what. We could pick vegetable from their organic garden, and we even had our own herbal garden next to the terrace.
We enjoyed every minute we stay there!
The cottage itself is situated in a quiet and non-tourist area, that allows to really feel in touch with the people, nature and environment.
By using the bicycles that belong to the house, we were able to explore the surroundings and go to the nice places for dinner or for spending the daytime.
We can absolutely recommend this place and would return, if we get the chance to go to Sicily once more!

The villa inside had lots of space for the 14 of us and had everything we needed (hairdryer, bed linen, towels, etc.). The bed was especially comfortable and we could catch up on some sleep.
We had some meals out and cooked some in the wonderful kitchen. There were also supplies of coffee, fresh eggs and lots of fresh vegetables from the vegetable garden. The dishwasher in the big kitchen meant we did not have to do much washing up which is great on holiday.
There is a lot of space to relax outside - we had breakfast outside most mornings and lovely Sicilian wine in the evenings next to the fig tree.
On one afternoon when we came back from the Marsala market with a lot of fresh products we had a gorgeous long lunch under the trees in the shade. And what a luxury to have such fresh figs to go with the local cheese :-)
Yumi and Adriano also provided many leaflets, maps and brochures about the area and information about anything happening close by which was very useful. They were very hospitable, welcoming and friendly and even provided us with a gorgeous bowl of fresh fruit on our first morning. They were always on hand and happy to stop and chat or provide advice on good beaches or suitable outings. They never walked past us without a friendly greeting and really made us feel at home.
It is a brilliant base from which to explore the area - we made trips to Erice, Trapani, Custonaci, Selinunte, Segesta, the Marsala beaches as well as the beaches between Torre San Teodoro and Birgi. The weather was spectacular!
We especially loved Marsala being so close - such a gorgeous town with lots of photographic opportunities, wonderful fish market, friendly people, great shops, lots of opportunities to wander, explore and have coffee. And we were bowled over at the reasonable prices - you certainly cannot sit down in Tokyo, have two coffees in such amazing surroundings and pay just two euros.
A week was too short and we wish we could have stayed longer. There were lots of places left to explore so we will have to come back...
Thanks very much to Yumi and Adriano for making our stay such a pleasant one, we loved the villa and after having driven past many other decided this one was the prettiest!

I've been home for a couple of days now but Sicily still comes to me in my dreams. Saturated technicolor visions of beauty and simplicity accompanied by the scent of oranges. I can still feel the tranquility and serenity imbued by this little marvel of understated perfection. One can could say that Andriano's and Yumi's sense of "sprezzatura" creates a holistic environment fit for books and fantasies. Great hosts. Great location. Great food. Great wine. Great lifestyle Simply great. Our heartfelt and sincere best wishes goes out to Adriando, Yumi and Family. Hope to see you in Stockholm come wintertime!

We had a fabulous week staying in Villa Salinara. Having read some of the reviews I was a little nervous about finding the house and circumnavigating Marsala however Yumi's instructions we had no problems and arrived early.
Adriano welcomed us and even showed us their synergistic vegetable garden where they grow fruits and vegetables without chemicals and gave us lots of vegetables to use.
The welcome pack as the local wine, local olive oil, local salt and dry tomatoes were a lovely touch and much appreciated.
The property is a joy to look at but also to stay in, with a unique interior. Whilst the structure is historic there are no compromises on the facilities that are provided with tasteful sicilian furniture, good storage and an incredibly well stocked kitchen with enough crockery and glasses to serve the most extended family.
Although outside it was very hot, the villa was cool. The wifi worked well...
We enjoyed the external area in front of the property and had a number of barbeques with the grill provided.
We went running in the evening and didn't meet a soul. Marsala was very quiet in the evenings, with real charm and excellent restaurants tucked away along narrow streets. Good café selling ice creams and informal restaurants selling good pizza.
We hired a car and therefore had trips to the beachs (Torre San Teodoro, Custonaci, Marsala and Selinunte-a must) as well as Trapani and Erice, which were spectacular. We could have wandered around the latter all day.
We'd like to thank Yumi and Adriano for a memorable stay and recommend staying in this property to everyone that is going to visit Sicily.

Villa SALINARA is a beautiful and authentic setting. Its made with love and attention to every detail. Apartments are very cozy, beds are comfortable, bathrooms are very stylish and made with exceptional taste. The area of Marasala and Mozia makes you feel quite far away from the touristic path, very relaxing and out of this world.
Hosts Yumi and Adriano are very responsive, very friendly and pleasant. They have informed us about everything: places to see, good dining options.
Go there if you wish to experience a different Sicily, if you wish to stay in a very authentic house. I am not sure if SALINARA is the best choice for families with small children, but it's absolutely perfect for romatic vacation.
Go there!

We can honestly say that this was one of the most beautiful places we have stayed at. The pictures are wonderful but you must see it in person, it will take your breath away. We really enjoyed the private, calm and charming atmosphere, the loving interiour and the special room experience next to the stone walls. The area is quite and prefect if you need a get-a-away. As Yumi suggested you do need a car to get around but they are very affordable. There are excellent beaches and attractions around! Yumi arranged for us some refreshment when we arrived witch we appreciated a lot, was really helpful and guided us through the best restaurants of the area.
Next time we will make sure to book well in advance so we can stay for longer. Definitely stay at this villa to enjoy serenity, beauty and wondrous hospitality. Thank You! MT and Family

"Absolutely beautiful villa and location. I agree with all previous testimonials in regards to Yumi and Adriano. They was extremely helpful and friendly. The property was ideal for the children, they had plenty of space to play in the garden. The rooms was spacious, beautifully kept, spotlessly clean with everything you could possibly need for your holiday. Situated in a quiet area surrounded by fields and lemon trees and it is a short walk (about 10 minutes) into the sea. Much of the land is cultivated and Adriano generously leaves gifts of freshly picked fruit and vegetables. The centre of Marsala is about 15 min drive and there are plenty of good restaurants. Highly recommended. My family and I intend to return to Sicily in the future and I would stay in this villa again. Thank you!"

Our family with grandmother and three daughters (13,10 and 7) spent magnificent vacation in villa Salinara at the end of October. It`s perfect time for people from North Europe to be in Sicily. It`s like our best summertime and other tourists are not many. Villa Salinara is very autentic place. It situated near Marsala town, but it is countryside with wineyards and olive trees. Very quiet and silent area. The house has been restored with good taste and used reused materials. Now I can differentiate what kind of tiles are hundred or two hundred years old. We spent a lot of time in villa. We desided not to rent the car this time. The nearest supermarket and fishrestaurant are both about 2 km and the beach was about 1 km. It was not difficult to walk for anybody. But if you want to see the sights and nearest towns, the car is necessary, because there is no public transport near the villa. The owner Adriano and housekeeper Manju are both very helpful and gived us good advises. It was perfect to have dinner (pasta fresco) in the villa`s big garden. It was quiet, warm and cicadas were in the background. What else can you wish? Thank you again Adriano with family and Manju! Marve & Co

We were in touch with Yumi ahead of time, and she was incredibly helpful in organizing our complicated reservation arrangement (six nights booked by three different people from the same group!). She met us in town for a coffee and take us to the villa. The villa is adorable, the attention to detail, the rustic charm, the incredible garden with a veritable orchard at our disposal - figs, pears, grapes, almonds, lettuce, tomatoes, peaches, zucchini, fresh eggs, etc. all kindly provided by the host. Adriano brought us local wine and house made marmalade... Above all Yumi and Adriano will always have a special place in our hearts. We have rented many villas in the world. This is definitely the best!

We spent 10 days in the Villa Salinara ("Antica Residenza") in the end of September and wholeheartedly recommend this place! Yumi and Adriano welcomed us warmly and Adriano took the time to explain us everything about this part of Sicily, such as archeological sites, natural reserves, the most wonderful beaches and restaurants to try. He and his assistent Mangiu even carried us around the village to show us everything that could be necessary during our stay. We must say, that already this part of Sicily is really worth visiting, but when it comes to the Villa Salinara, we were really, really amazed. Yumi and Adriano renovated and furnished this antique house with expertise and a wonderful attention for details. Each apartment has it's very own charme and it is very nice to go around and discover all those little details. We found that a car was quite necessary in order to benefit from the nicest places around (Zingaro Park, the vivid town of Marsala, the greek temples of Selinunte or Segesta, etc.) and also to reach the really nice beaches. All in all, this vacation was an anamazing experience that we warmly recommend to anybody who value a very special 'ambiente', wonderful nature, historic sites, good food and very open minded hosts. Thank you, Yumi, Adriano and Mangiu! Ines and Katrin

"We've been looking for long time for a place in sicily that would meet our wishes of charm and authenticity, and a place that would also be a bit out of the touristy paths. The villa that you have created is a fulfill all of these wishes and even more... Just perfect!! The location is beautiful, set in one of the best parts of Sicily. We particularly appreciated the vegetable garden, the bikes and the privatr patio for dinner and for relax. Yumi and Adriano welcomed us warmly and they gave us useful advises of the best place to visit and restaurant to try.
We hope to come back soon! "

My wife, our two children and I, spent a week in the Poet's House in May and had a wonderful time enjoying the simple pleasures of the house and the area. Our little boy loved helping the gardener tend the gardens, and we made fresh salad with the herbs that they picked together. We barbecued fresh fish and collected eggs from the friendly neighbour's chickens. And we discovered the area around Marsala with the help of our excellent hosts, Yumi and Adriano. We had a truly relaxing time.
The Poet's House is fine for two adults and two young children; but if you have teenagers a larger apartment would be better. The style is simple and rustic, but the house is utterly charming and has been created with love, with lots of cool details. You'll definitely need a car, but Marsala (beautiful old town with loads of shops and restaurants) is only 5 to 10 minutes drive away, and the walk down to the lagoon, where one can swim from the pontoons or let the kids paddle in the warm, shallow water, is again only about seven or eight minutes from the villa.
It was our first time in Sicily and we couldn't have wished for a better introduction. We're looking forward to returning.

Yumi and Adriano guarantee a 5 star holiday in their wonderful historic Sicilian villa. We were for our second time, seduced by their hospitality and their professionalism. Tastefully decorated, boasting a huge garden overlooking the orange trees for lunches, aperitif and long dinner under the stars. Perfectly located, from very good resteraunts and one café just in front of the windmils area. A magical location with golden sunlight falling on vinyards and beaches. We highly recommend these properties for anyone looking for a memorable Sicilian experience. Thanks to Yumi & Adriano!!

"Villa Salinara was humbly grand; generosity and simplicity that nourished us. To the left of the villa on bicycle: the salt farms, to the right, some many kilometers on, Marsala town, upstairs, Yumi and Adriano and their son. We spent 14 plentiful days at Salinara. From there one can take the ferry with other Italian families to one of three Egadi islands, immerse in transparent water, have fisherman take you on boat around the reserve – islands that are not stained by mass tourism. One can take the ferry to Mothia, to archeological ruins, one can watch locals wed, watch evening religious processions. One realizes that this part of Sicilia is still steeped in tradition, still preserved and still gentle and curious with foreigners. The local produce grows from small agriculture and we would have loved rent a car to tour the land to discover more tasty delights. Yumi and Adriano are relaxed and inviting. The villa is their restoration, using materials sourced from around Sicilia and meeting them daily by moments’ chance affords you a contact and an exchange that is rare and personal as strangers in a foreign place. The villa is not a bed and breakfast, or a hotel – they have opened the ground floor of one of their homes and one feels privileged and relieved to have the villa to retreat from the midday sun or collapse in the evening. We are grateful to have experienced it. "

"We chose to go to Sicily and Marsala because we fell in love with Villa Salinara on Homelidays and it was just as we had hoped. Welcoming, light and airy, large spaces, comfortable, beautifully arranged and wonderfully renovated. One can tell that the owners have a passion for beauty and attention to detail. We spent a wonderful 7 days at Villa Salinara, exploring the surrounding countryside, coast and island hopping. Yumi and Adriano are wonderful hosts, they took their time helping us with settling in, finding our way around and sharing the local knowledge with us. The Canoli Siciliani from Bar Euro are more than I ever imagined! Villa Salinara is a welcome haven to return to and lovely to just hang out in. The Villa is set in quiet surroundings, with wonderful neighbours, close to a small village and the port to Mozia, only a short bicycle ride away. There you can sit in the sun and appreciate a great coffee and smiles from the locals. We enjoyed our time in Sicily very much and look forward to returning sometime, the atmosphere as well as the people are very warm and welcoming. We were actually sad to leave. Thank you from B.andD."

"That is April 2011 when we stayed in Salinara. Beside the trail from the corner to the gate, a lot of flowers were blooming! We saw oranges and lomons berrying on the tree in the garden. The orner let us taste them. That was exactly Sicilian lemon! Our room was beatifully furnished with historic beds, closet, ornament and so on. And the shower was unique. But hot water runs very well. The location of Salinara is very convinient to the area to be visited also. The orners, Adriano and Yumi, are very frindly and kind. I really recommend you to stay in Salinara".

I stayed at "Salinara" from 6th to 12th of April in 2011. That was wonderful ! "Salinara" is well furnished with beautiful histric furniture, which really let us feel we are in Sicily, where south Italian and North African culture are mixed. From "Salinara", you can go to a lot of places to see. We visited Eriche, Selinunte, Trappani, Malsara and so on. All places were very nice ! I recomend you to rent a car and also you can rent a bicycle the villa has. The orners , Adriano and Yumi are warmhearted pepole and Yumi is a Japanese lady so you can have Japanese hospitality in Sicily. And added, we, me and my friend, are female. We feel very safe that place. I'm sure girls can enjoy staying there. Of course for a couple, romantic time must surely be spent !
