THE NEIGHBORHOOD

Plaka is the old historical neighbourhood of Athens, clustered around the northern and eastern slopes of the Acropolis, and incorporating labyrinthine streets and neoclassical architecture. It is located between Syntagma and Monastiraki square. Adrianou Street (running north and south) is the largest and most central street in Plaka.

There are plenty of shops, restaurants and coffee shops in the neighborhood. Nearby is Ermou street, which is the main shopping street of Athens.

In Plaka can be found a number of major Athens sights. Museums in Plaka include the new Acropolis Museum (8 minute walk from the apartment), the new Jewish Museum of Greece (1 min walk), the Museum of Greek Folk Art (2 min walk), an annex of which is the Old Public Baths building, the Frissiras Museum, the Museum of Popular Music Instruments, the Museum of Pavlos and Alexandra Kanellopoulou and the Athens University Museum (8 min walk). Nearby is Adrianou Street which may be the oldest street in Athens still in continuous use with exactly the same layout since antiquity, that leads to the Roman Agora - Roman Forum (7 min walk) and to Thiseio. Also, Acropolis is a 15 min walk from the apartment. Other remarkable sights nearby are Herodes Atticus Theatre, the Pnyx Hill, and the picturesque neighborhood with the greek island-like houses, Anafiotika.
Aside from sightseeing, note that the apartment is also located very close to the shopping center of the city, Ermou Street and Voukourestiou Street and the neighborhood is full of nice restaurants and bars.

The apartment is fully renovated, spacious and well equipped. It’s at the edge of Plaka, in a nice neighbourhood, near enough to everything but quiet. It’s also very secure, with keypad lobby entry and apartment. The kitchen is smallish but functional with a washing machine, the bedrooms and living room spacious. The small balcony was pleasant. Overall a nice, elegant apartment that we’d recommend

Excellent location and very comfortable two bedroom apartment for a family of three adults.
Excellent location and very comfortable two bedroom apartment for a family of three adults.
Excellent location and very comfortable two bedroom apartment for a family of three adults. Three blocks from Syntagama and one block from Plaka.  Nikis street is a very narrow street with cars parked in both sides. Van transfers from the airport will drop you off on the corner or in nearby street for you will have to carry your luggage depending on driver's will, traffic hour or expertise to get through.  We experienced all three. It is a noisy neighborhood at nights and the bells of a nearby church will throw you out of bed early on weekends.  But it is ok, considering you are on your own and best time to enjoy Athens is early in the mornings before all the tourists hordes invade  the amazing sites. Besides, you get so tired at the end of the day that you forget all about it. Spacious common areas, a small balcony; two bedrooms with brand new double beds each. Bedroom 1 next to the bathroom has a wall to wall closet but only one side open. Useless and difficult to reach space on top.  Bedroom 2 is next to livingroom, no closets but with a hanging portable rod. A chest of drawers would be advisable in both bedrooms as well as suitcase stands to prevent spoiling the spotless white linen. Slide doors isolate room from common areas. 1 bathroom with shower; kitchen with a small ceramic glass cooktop with two ranges. No conventional oven but it has a small electric one good enough to heat the delicious greek pastry you get in nearby bakeries.  Krupp nesspresso Coffee machine uses capsules only available at Bazaar supermarket this time. No need to cook with the best family homemade greek delicacies from Paliaatina restaurant across the street. We felt at home and we had an excellent communication through mail and wassap with Konstantino,  our lessor agent. He is very prompt to solve any problem you may have. We had none but a bent iron socket that was repaired next day we informed about it. We highly recommend Nikis 33.
