About this villa rental
Are you looking for somewhere you will always remember? A villa that is really special? Villa Kalisha is truly something out of the ordinary. Featured in the Periplus book 'Bali Houses' It is a villa that has it all. When you first walk through the entrance you are instantly hit by the amazing views. The villa almost seems to hang suspended above a steep jungle filled gorge. In all directions there is nothing but trees, but 100m below you there are beautiful rice paddies, and in the distance you can see all the way to the ocean.
Furnished by Christopher Noto, the exclusive Singapore furniture designer, Villa Kalisha offers understated romantic luxury, with a strong taste of Asian flare. Night time brings a special ambience when the superb lighting further highlights the villa’s breath-taking location.
Exclusively served by four staff who will cater for your every need, Villa Kalisha is perfect for escaping the hectic modern life with loved ones, friends or family.
Made our cook will prepare fantastic breakfasts, and a great selection of traditional Balinese and Indonesian dishes, and we can even arrange special meals such as Babi Guling (Balinese Suckling Pig) or Bebek Betutu (Balinese Baked Duck) or BBQ.
Nyos our manager, will happily take you for a walk through the surrounding countryside, and major sights like the Tegallalang Rice terraces are a great walk from the villa.
Otherwise just kick back and enjoy the peace, tranquility and the cool temperatures (Villa Kalisha is at quite a high altitude, and so is usually about 22 to 25 degrees C ) and let the staff look after you in perfect privacy and serenity.
Please be aware that because of the year round cool temperatures Villa Kalisha does not have air-conditioning, only ceiling fans.

Property was breath taking, everything was amazing. Staff is right there- often there all day so we would have loved a bit more privacy/alone time but otherwise it was incredible in every way.

The staff headed by Nyos and Chief Madi made sure every aspect of our stay was thoughtfully arranged. The food was delicious and every arrangement was thoughtfully taken care of. The house is beautiful. Dougie the driver was equally thoughtful. We hope to return again sometime soon. Can't recommend the experience high enough. Thank you for a wonderful stay Janet John Fiona and Ed

We (ages 62, 39, 38 and 10) had five lovely days in Villa Kalisha which we found to be as advertised. What is shown on the beautiful pictures you can find of the villa is what you will experience when you arrive.
The villa is located in absolute privacy with no neighbours - only trees and greenery surrounds the property. Very spacious rooms, very tastefully decorated.
The villa staff (villa manager, cook and maid + night watch) were all excellent and could not do enough for us. I cannot praise them highly enough and thank them greatly for making our stay very comfortable.
One word of advice; the villa is located in the middle of the forest which means that the sounds from the forest cannot be avoided - I recommend bringing earplugs for the night.
All in all; Villa Kalisha is quite exceptional and we should like to stay again, should we find ourselves near Ubud once more.

Beyond expectations!
We stayed three nights, traveling with one other couple. Villa Kalisha is GORGEOUS, the photos don’t do it justice. The walk from the rice paddies the first day, down into the lush jungle, seeing the villa for the first moment, is something we will not soon forget. We were treated so wonderfully by Made, Nyos, and Wayan. The food was excellent, try the smoked duck! Nyos took us on a walk through the rice paddies, highly recommend adding that to your agenda- with a dip in the pristine pool to follow! Dougie drove us from the airport, and around Ubud for some sight seeing- he was great and reliable and entertaining! We enjoyed our time so much here, thank you to Tom and Rene for opening your beautiful home to us, and to Nyos, Made, Wayan, and driver Dougie for taking such great care of us during our stay.

Definitely the most stricking place I've ever stayed in! This villa, hung on the side of the mountain, overlooking small rice fileds lost in the midst of a lush jungle, gives you, every morning, the feeling of having breakfast in the middle of a lost world. Day or night, nothing around but great palm trees, ferns and giant leaves, and the noises of the forest: birds, frogs, gekkos (lots of them!). Here, none of the inconvenient roosters and barking dogs, so common in Bali! Great staff, luxury level accomodation. The whole family (Karyn, my wife, our 2 daughters and myself) loved our 7 days stay there. The only drawback being that it was to short!
We definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for luxury in the middle of wilderness. And if you end up missing the excitement of the city, Ubud is only about 20mn away.
Our stay in Villa Kalisha will definitely remain as one of our most fantastic holiday experience ever.

When you book a villa there is always the slight concern that it is not live up to expectations. When we arrived at Villa Kalisha all expectations were exceeded. The villa is spacious the bathrooms are beautiful we stayed in the upstairs bedroom and the view from the bath over the paddy fields is amazing and I like waking up in the tree tops watching the birds and ?chipmunks. we had some concerns about not having air conditioning and even though it was very hot in March it was bearable at night.
The staff at the villa are a delight, nothing is too much trouble, everything with a smile. Maddi is a great cook and we also enjoyed a guided walk and spa treatments in the villa.
Points to note, there are a number of steps and a walk through the paddy fields to the villa which is enjoyable but does mean that the staff have to carry your case and we all wished we had packed lighter! The deck needs some attention, otherwise absolutely beautiful and I was sad to leave.

We spent 10 amazing days in the villa, it was a fantastic relax holiday in the middle of jungle. The villa has perfect location, you walk through rice fields to the entrance. The staff is also very nice and helpful. I hardly recommend this place for everyone who wants to take a rest in this running world.

I just want to write few words about house of my dreams! Villa Kalisha! We visit Bali every year and are lucky enough to have stayed at a lot beautiful places, but to be absolutely honest, Villa Kalisha is the most awe-inspiring, the most stunning, and absolutely the most essential place to stay on the island!!!There is a real spirit of real Bali here... it has a breath-taking view on wild nature. You can sit out on the terraces for hours just listening to the sounds of the jungle. The stylish bathrooms and beautiful bedrooms are wonderful and the pool is a magical place to take a swim. The staff are so helpful and friendly and will cook you up a delicious meal at the same cost as the local Balinese restaurants. If you love nature and the complete feeling of living right in the tree-tops then Villa Kalisha is for you. Nyos [the manager] will take you on walks down through the gorge too…just pure magic!! We will be back.

My husband, his brother and wife and I had a 48 hour trip before arriving to Villa Kalisha. It was late night, we were tired, but when we arrived, all the staff from the Villa gave us a warm lovely welcome. It was fabulous the entrance in the middle of the rice fields. The Villa is hiding in a jungle with beautiful plants and nice view. The furniture, the beds, the bathtubs, the pool, the kitchen, everything is very good looking. Most of the nights we arrived very late, and all the nice people from Villa Kalisha were always available with a smile to receive us. We celebrated our wedding in another place, but when we arrive, there was an AWESOME surprise with rose pedals in our bed and the bath tub with a bottle of champagne. That was something I was not expecting but we Love it. Thank you LOVELY people. We would love to come back and highly recommend this to anyone.

we stayed in the villa for 3 nights - were really excited about it, as we read only great things about this place - but as we arrived we got unfortunately really disappointed. I can only say that this place is really dirty, the bathrooms were great - with nice view, but you could not enjoy anything of it as it was VERY dirty. the location is great, but I guess the employees should learn how to clean the bathrooms, bedrooms and everything else so that the guests coming there could enjoy the stay. I would not recommend this place to anyone - unfortunately.

Our stay at Villa Kalisha was a truly blissful experience. Having stayed at many villas and five star resorts around the world I was very impressed, and have to say that Villa Kalisha represented excellent value for money.
The approach to villa takes you along a path through swathes of rice fields. The villa itself is situated high up on the edge of a vast gorge with sprawling jungle laid out below. Wherever you are- in or out of the house- there are magnificent views of the surrounding area.
The villa itself is fully equipped and furnished to a very high standard. The bedrooms and bathrooms are a pure indulgence with many special features and the rest of the house does not disappoint.
The outside area is large, well furnished and well presented with a huge pool.
The staff were friendly, welcoming and attentive. They looked after our every need, and were very discrete and considerate when doing so.
All in all a peaceful, luxurious retreat.
Many thanks!

Can highly recommend it.

Stunning Villa Kalisha
Villa Kalisha is simply amazing. A walk across the paddy fields takes you to this isolated villa, with stunning views of the surrounding jungle from floor-to-ceiling windows. The pool is beautiful, the bedrooms are huge, and the bathrooms are out of this world. The staff are unobtrusive and friendly and looked after our every need, including providing a delicious meal one evening and an impromtu lunch the next day when we found we just couldn't bring ourselves to leave the villa. I can't recommend this villa enough - it's the most beautiful place I have ever stayed!

Villa Kalisha - June 2010 stay
From the walk through the rice paddy, to the distant sounds of religious celebration spilling over the cloud covered mountain in front of us, we knew we were in a very special place when we entered Villa Kalisha, It is, in short - stunning. Encircled by rainforest - the place is beautifully appointed, the atmosphere entirely relaxing - and the staff so very pleasant and accommodating. As a group of 8 (with 4 kids) we enjoyed our stay immensely - probably the highest recommendation of this property being that none of us wanted to leave.

Villa Kalisha
When we finally arrived at Villa Kalisha (it took us a bit longer to find it than was expected) it was all worthwhile. From the friendly staff who helped us along the rice fields to the amazing view from the Villa, the overall expereince was therapeutic, relaxing and very very plesant.
Once we got there it was a great feeling to know we didn't have to leave and everything was taken care of. The staff were great and looked after us superbly.
The leisurely bath could have been better if there was a better supply of hot water but that would be my only negative feedback.
Overall it was great and I would definitely recommend Villa Kalisha to my friends who visit Bali.

Villa Kalisha Review
Just had a fabulous weekend at Villa Kalisha. The location is stunning and the villa is absolutely gorgeous. The bedrooms are huge and the bathrooms are beautifully designed with the most spectacular view from the toilet!
The service provided by the staff at the villa could not be faulted and they were extremely helpful and friendly.
Food was very good and reasonably priced which makes a nice change from some of the hotels in Bali.
There are some good attractions in the area and we went into Ubud at night to see one of the dance performances. The location of the villa is a little remote though, but that suited us and would definitely recommend it if you want a quiet getaway.

A great weekend break
The drive through the villages and the walk across the padi fields to access this villa really sets the scene. As we entered the villa we were greeted with the view of the lush, untouched valley - already we were impressed. The villa is set on the side of the valley built with two storeys, there is one bedroom upstairs and one downstairs. Each bedroom is of a similar size, there is no AC in the rooms, fans only. The temperature is definitly slightly cooler in Ubud compared to our home in Canggu so it wasn't really a problem. What really impressed us were the ensuites for each bedroom; they over look the valley. As you have a shower or sit on the loo you can take in the view!
The staff at the villa were very helpful with good English. They helped us carry our bags, offered suggestion of day trips, served us drinks during the day and cooked a lovely meal for us in the evening.
The decking area and pool make for a lovely area to relax, the pool was quite cold but refreshing! The staff lit candles around this area in the evening and it made a lovely setting for an evening drink.
One suggestion for the Villa Kalisha website is to change the '12 minutes from Ubud' to maybe 25 minutes. I know I'm not the fastest driver, but I'm sure 12 minutes is impossible!
Anyway, as a weekend getaway it ticked all our boxes. We will definitly be back when friends from overseas come to visit us so we can impress them with the secret gem we found near Ubud!

Kalisha. Ubud.
Forget the clichés - trees growing vertically out from a sheer drop, the magic forest with fireflies providing the evenings entertainment on the opposite side of the gorge – this is a place for people who understand taste.
The staff were absolutely amazing with our demanding children. A must do is the walk down to the paddy fields from the villa accompanied by Nyos. It may not be for everyone as slopes are steep and paths narrow but the views from the bottom of the gorge with the sound of the water and the wind and the 10,000 year old paddy fields is something you will never see anywhere else in the world. An amazing weekend.
P.s. could someone in the management pass our personal thanks to the staff.

A unique week-end
Villa Kalisha was a new experience for us – we had never stayed anywhere like it before. The views of the jungle are breathtaking and the sounds of the wildlife were something else. The tranquillity of the villa was amazing and the willingness of the staff to entertain the children while we read our books or ate the superb dinners cooked by Made meant that we really had a chance to chill out and enjoy the surroundings. The children loved playing in the infinity pool and the walks around the villa and can’t wait to go back. The views from the bathroom were incredible and we both agreed it was the best bath we had ever had! It was hard to leave this piece of paradise but we plan to return very soon. Many thanks.

We stayed at the villa and took my folks who were over visiting initially from the UK to Malaysia. Your whole first experience there is really breathtaking. To get to you walk down a path through picturesque padi fields. Once at the property the view is just amazing. With the pool built out over the gauge and the valley of padi fields, the serene peacful beauty cannot be put into words.
The bathrooms are almost open into the jungle, which for some is a little daunting, but really is again just amazing (you get used to being with nature). The bedrooms and the beds are huge and beautiful also.
The staff were attentive and the food good. It was a great location to visit Ubud from although it is a short drive to the centre.
From a perspective of adults and older children this was perfection. The only possible negative point is for toddlers there are a few hazards.
We will however definately be visiting again, and i really do feel the price should be double what it is (although I hope they dont increase). Highly recommended 9.9 out of 10

Astonishing experience
My wife and i have been fortunate enough to visit many lovely places around the world but none have been as memorable as our stay at Villa Kalisha!
The Villa itself seems to cling to the side of an "Amozon" style wooded ravine which offers one of the most amazing views of nature i've ever had the pleasure of experiencing.
The villa itself is, in my opinion, a fusion between colonial living and jungle tree house, all rolled into one.....so relaxing!
The staff are absolutely second to none. Throughout our two day stay, we were not allowed to lift a finger. The food they prepared for us in the villa was good enough to please any discerning critic (both local & international fare).
We checked in to the villa expecting to have a small ceremony to renew our wedding vows and relax...... instead we had "a holiday of a lifetime".
The only problem i have, is to choose the best bit.....The view (breathtaking), The villa (Romantic & cosy), the staff (some of the best i've encountered worldwide) or the food (yummy).
All in all, i only have massive praise to offer both the staff & the villa owner.
Incredible through & through, Thank you!!!
I would recomend this villa to everyone!

An amazing place
The staff were amazing, the views spectacular and the countryside stunning. Normally I'd try and be more pragmatic and thoughtful in a review of somewhere I've stayed to give other readers a more informed view, but as a family this was just the ideal place for us. I can't remember going to anywhere with such a dramatic pool and so perfectly furnished. The food was excellent and we felt really looked after. The location is in easy reach of plenty of activities and the staff at the villa were full of ideas and fun about how to entertain our kids. And when the kids went to bed, was also a very romantic place to have a glass wine, read a book or just enjoy the sounds of Bali. All I can say is thank you very much!
