I've no idea what this hotel used to be like and why it might have prompted quite so many negative reviews in the past, but we had a very comfortable, peaceful and pleasant three nights there, right in the centre of Karlovo at a very good price. The staff were lovely and there was no evidence of any of the so-say 'issues' that other guests appear to have had. To be honest, I was slightly wary about booking it when I read what others have written here, but don't believe the negative hype - it's a really nice, clean, friendly 2-star hotel with views across to the Balkan and right on the main town square (with cake shops!) And a great base for exploring Karlovo.
The wifi was a bit wobbly - but that's no big deal or indeed uncommon.

This seemed to me a good "business" hotel with modern facilities right in the center of the "new town." A group of soldiers was also staying there. That gave me a sense that the hotel was solid and professionally run.
The manager (Petya) was very helpful to me in helping me plan my next train journeys, even looking up the times on the computer screen at the reception desk. That was very much appreciated. Her English was good.
The room was large and clean with good facilities. WiFi was good.
Really, the hotel didn't have anything to question.
There was a problem with its indicated location in my mobile's map software (MapsMe) which showed two different locations with the same name. That caused about 10 minutes of walking around, but the correct location was just across the square from the incorrect one. I finally located the hotel to end the frustration.

Perfect location. Incredible professional service of the receptionist Stefka.
The level is of a tourist dormitory from the last century. Uncomfortable creaking mattresses, sheets that barely cover the mattress. There is not even a chair in the room. The smell of a sewer in the bathroom that gives you a headache.

Lovely receptionist

Friendly and familier personal in very cozy hotel. Nothing to claim. Once the square next to the hotel will be done, that will be the best choice in this area 👍

The only good thing is the location, it is central with a nice view of the mountains and close to some restaurants, shops, etc..
The hotel staff did not speak even the slightest form of English, German or French. We could not pay by card, even though on the reservation it said we can. The rooms were dirty, the air was stale and it seemed that the windows had not been opened in months. There was dust everywhere, no card to show you wifi pass, the AC gave off a smell of mold and dust. The bed mattress was terrible - i Had a spring stinging my back the whole night. There is no table room- the breakfast was served at the coffee tables at the reception.

Nothing
Too expensive, cold, the breakfast was awful.
They called me 4 times to ask me to pay via bank transfer in advance, which wasn't mentioned in booking.
Never again!
