Old Town Alexandria is a historic seaport and a peaceful village just a few miles from downtown DC. The local amenities are plentiful and the access to downtown Washington is a cinch. Some of the best restaurants in the National Capital Region are just around the corner. If you are into live music, theater, or art galleries, there are several venues within walking distance.
Duvall House is just two blocks from the Potomac River boardwalk which features a water taxi to Georgetown, the Wharf, National Harbor and MGM Casino, and the Washington Nats ballpark.
Located directly across from the front entrance to historic Alexandria City Hall, adjacent to iconic Ivy Lane, and just steps from dozens of shops and restaurants.

Prospective guests are asked to keep in mind that this home is nearly 250 years old and so it has its quirks and nuances. There are a couple of very low doorways and so those over 6 feet need to be cautious and aware of those. Likewise, the bedrooms on the 3rd floor have sloped ceilings and so be mindful when standing up in the gables. Lastly, we maintain a monthly comprehensive professional pest service, but on rare occasions you may encounter a bug or even a mouse (particularly in the Winter as they escape the cold). We have had zero negative experiences and/or reviews in more than four years of hosting, but want to be entirely truthful and transparent to our visitors who may be sensitive to such things.

This stay was our best ever! The location was so close to everything. DC was just a 12 minute uber, Reagan airport only 10 min. Old Town Alexandria was so fun, live music, wonderful restaurants and the waterfront.
Our hose Chris was so welcoming! The house was immaculate, the amenities plentiful, and kitchen well appointed. He was so kind. When storms threatened our flight home, he offered to let us stay a few more days.
I can't say enough about his hospitality or the beautiful historic home.
Thanks Chris!

We love this house! It is easy and comfortable, and all of the George and Martha Washington decor is fun. We’ve stayed 2 years in a row for graduations with varied ages. There is so much to do in the neighborhood.

The house has the old charm yet modern and very clean. Ideal location if you want to enjoy Old Town.

I cannot say enough fantastic things about our time at the Duvall House. The house was the perfect location for our small wedding in the back patio, and the lodging was perfect for our families who came in from out of town.
The house itself is chock full of great talking points, ambiance, and the location cannot be beat just blocks away from the main part of Old Town. And the host Chris is the best host you could ask for, helping to set the house up appropriately for our special day. Cannot recommend this place enough!

We had a wonderful stay at the Duvall House! This historic gem truly takes you back in time, commemorating the legacy of George Washington. The experience of staying here was unparalleled - it felt like stepping into a piece of living history. The ambiance was charming and inviting, perfect for our small working group retreat. The house is well-equipped for gatherings, and the cozy atmosphere made it ideal for intimate dinners. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and memorable experience!

If you’re looking for a clean, comfortable and charming home in the heart of Old Town and minutes from DC, look no further. Tucked behind City Hall and steps from vibrant King Street, the house offers a quiet place to relax and sleep yet is only a few minutes walk to charming shops and restaurants and a very short drive to DC museums. The host could not be more gracious and easy to work with.

We brought the family to VA/MD for a weekend wedding. The venue was at Oxon Hill Manor which was a short 15min ride. Many of the guests were at Hotel Indigo just a short walk from the house which provided us easy access to all the events around the wedding. The house was in immaculate with many historic pieces throughout. We travelled with our 2 adult children and the property was more than comfortable for 4. We were only a block or 2 from the Potomac, shops and fantastic restaurant options as well. There was plenty of parking in the area but we used Uber to easily travel to all destinations. The Old Town neighborhood was a terrific place to visit and Chris’ property was the perfect spot for us. We plan to return and highly recommend it for others

From start to finish the hosts were accommodating with all requests. Duvall House displays an interesting collection of historical artwork, furniture and decor. The AC cooled the premises even though the temperature reached high 90s. The kitchen was well equipped. The location was within walking distance to the pier. We have stayed in several other historic homes but none of them had the same mix of history and modern “necessities”. The home was unusually quiet for a historical home. I highly recommend it to families with students studying American history. We hope to return and hold a luncheon in the ballroom.

We are history buffs and this couldn’t have been a better property. Both for the location and for the house itself.
We felt like we were going back in time but with modern conveniences. The location saved us money on car rental as we didn’t need one as well.
The hosts were responsive and helped in so many ways. We will be back.

What an amazing property! Chris was a FANTASTIC host. The house was perfect for my family that came into town visiting me for a military celebration. The location is so safe and with street parking right in front, made it easy to load/unload, especially with a baby. The space was immaculately clean and pet friendly. Even though it was historic, it had all the modern amenities we could ever want, including a much appreciated air conditioning. Also, the ground floor bedroom and bath for my father was perfect. The property is within walking distance of EVERYTHING in Alexandria and it was so nice not to have to worry about driving. We ate at a lovely Italian restaurant only a block away and then my family explored the riverfront. We also took advantage of being so close to the Torpedo factory and another restaurant right on the riverfront with outdoor dining that was also dog friendly. Chris went above and beyond with a lovely welcome basket, informative historic book, and facilitated two street parking passes. We also used parking in the garages that were extremely close/reasonably priced. Chris even made sure the sleeping arrangements were as we had requested (two additional blow up beds and even a crib provided). It was stress free not having to worry about linens and toweling. When we accidentally left a necklace (he noticed first), Chris reached out immediately and mailed it. Thank you for making such a memorable stay for my family and I would absolutely book again!

Duvall House is impeccably lovely, charming, and comfortable; bright and cheerful; historic and beautiful, yet with every modern convenience and comfort. Having grown up in Old Town, staying at Duvall House literally made us all feel perfectly at home. Chris our Host is amazing; so very kind, helpful, and attentive. Our stay was perfect in every way!

Outstanding property and host. Great spot for visiting DC. A block away from the trolley stop that will take you to the Metro. Runs 11am to 11pm little over a mile walk if trolley isn’t running.
Alexandria is also a great spot to visit in itself, coffee shops, restaurants, shopping etc. also the Alexandria Riverfront.
The home is comfortable, clean and well kept. Would highly recommend.

I cannot express my appreciation to chris m. First he was extremely responsive and accommodating. Having colleagues fly in from Europe to work on a project, I needed a place where everyone could stay, comfortably, work during the day and go out to experience historical Alexandria. The Duval was perfect, plenty of room to work together and still have areas for privacy. Everyone loved it , we were very productive and enjoyed ourselves, too. There were so many small details that were taken care of, down to the welcome basket of treats and wine! Thank you! We will definitely be taking advantage of this wonderful location again soon

The house was breathtaking...there were so many beautiful pictures and period pieces it was hard to take them all in. The house was very well appointed and your every need taken care of. All the beds were comfy and warm, the kitchen had more than enough stocked essentials. We loved sitting arounnd the beautiful copper topped table in the kitchen for morning coffee and late night drinks. We stayed in many rental properties and Chris has been by far the most helpful and attentive host we have ever had. I would not hesitate to recommend this home to anyone!
Thank you Chris for making our say so comfortable and enjoyable.

Staying at the Duvall Historic Home was a fun experience for our family of five. Despite its old-world feeling, the place is very clean, beds are comfortable, showers were hot and there was plenty of room for everyone. Kitchen had everything we needed although we didn’t cook—just brought in carry out. The location is perfect for exploring Old Town Alexandria and when we went into Washington DC it was a quick 15-minute drive.
We rented a car and parked in a parking garage very close to the property when we needed to park overnight.
Highly recommend Lavender Moon cupcakes down the street—amazing!!

Chris is a wonderful host and was quick to answer all of my questions. We stayed for a week over Christmas and this house was perfect. The kitchen was fully equipped to make a huge Christmas feast that we enjoyed in the ballroom. We will definitely be back!

This was an incredible property for our Thanksgiving celebration. Chris was a wonderful host setting up the tables in advance, answering my multiple questions in advance quickly and even stopped by to help me when I couldn't figure out the TV. We prepared the feast onsite in the kitchen, and served our sit down meal for 19 in the ballroom. Pre-dinner cocktail hours were hosted in the main level parlors which spilled out to a lovely courtyard. Everyone enjoyed the space, and the exuberant nods to George Washington, and has asked that we repeat our celebration at Duvall House next year. And the location is perfect. You can walk to a wide variety of restaurants, coffee shops, and the weekly Farmers market within a few blocks. We recommend this is a perfect venue for events, family reunions and any visit to Alexandria and the Nations Capital.

What a perfect place for the ladies in my family to gather and honor my sister who is getting married in a few weeks. We loved every aspect of this historical home which my mom and sisters had a difficult time leaving. We wanted to stay forever! Chris was incredible and was there from start to finish to answer every question i had with the utmost genteelness. He was a superb host! You will not find better. He catered to our USMC family of ladies and we felt completely at home. We were supplied everything we needed for a wonderful relaxing weekend including a complimentary bottle of champagne, bottle of red wine & snacks in a welcome basket. What a beautiful home to do live music in! Too! The harp and cello sounded exquisitely beautiful in the downstairs parlor/historical music room. We are already looking forward with anticipation to the next time we can plan a family visit to The Duvall house. Aka historical Duvalls Tavern” Thank you Chris for your kindness! Best Host experience we have ever had with VRBO! Semper Fi! - Maria G

This was a great location in Alexandria for sightseeing in DC. Lots of restaurant options within walking distance for the two families that stayed in the house. Historical decorations in the house went well with the theme of our DC sightseeing vacation. Metro into DC was easily accessible by the free King street trolley (11 am-11pm) in Alexandria.

Amazing historic home in the heart of old town. Within walking distance of many great shops and restaurants. Close to the waterfront and only about a mile from the metro. Bring your bike. The Mt Vernon trail is also close by. Ride to Mt Vernon or Roosevelt Island. Chris was wonderful to deal with. Would definitely stay there again.

We were looking for a large house to gather comfortably in the heart of Alexandria, and this was the perfect location! The house is huge and has a unique historical ambiance. The location was perfect - in walking distance to all of the shops and restaurants. I highly recommend this house for a large gathering.

Excellent property in a great location
What a fabulous house! We were out fir my father in law’s interment at Arlington. My hubby grew up on the west coast and is a bit of a history buff. We were both wowed by the house and location. A couple of family members stayed with us and there was plenty of room for both privacy and socialization. Communication was flawless and the hosts did everything possible to make our stay enjoyable. For future guests, it is worth mentioning that there is a bike check out service 1/2 block away, which sometimes makes quick trips to the store or local historic sites easier than a rental car or Uber.

Delivered everything promised and more
We had a delightful family stay in this historic townhouse in old town Alexandria. Our children came away with a new appreciation of George Washington and the early history of our country. The owner was very responsive throughout our stay and also graciously allowed us a late checkout on the day of our departure. We were also very happy to reserve the small ballroom on the second floor for a special occasion family dinner of 30 people. Our guests admired the character and history of not only the ballroom but also all of the public rooms of the house. We heartily recommend Duvall House for anyone interested in exploring the historic quarter and waterfront of Alexandria or hosting an intimate event of their own.

Great location!
The location was perfect. It was a lot of fun to stay in a historical building. We were a group of 6 adults and we had plenty of room. Chris was very responsive throughout the process. Prior to our arrival I was concerned about parking since we had to rent an enormous SUV for the six of us. Not a problem - covered parking lot two blocks from the house.

Family trip to DC
Staying at Duvall House is truly living in history! We took our children ages 13-5 on their first DC trip, and we loved having Duvall house as our home base. The house certainly gives you the feeling of stepping back in time while at the same time being very clean and comfortable. It was a great place to relax after a busy day of tours and sightseeing. We also loved being right in the middle of Old Town so close to so many great restaurants, the Wharf, the Mt. Vernon Trail, shopping, and so many historic sites! We hope to visit again!

Perfect abode for President’s day weekend
Or any weekend! We had so much fun staying in The Duvall House. Was like going back in time and being reminded of the important role GW had as a founding father. Great set up for our group of six: two couples and two teens and two pups!! Everyone appreciated the convenient and gorgeous location and lots of space in the house for quiet time in between adventures.
We loved it! Thank you!! Linda and her group

Historical treat along with great location!
We have been to Alexandria many times so our stay was mainly to meet with and visit family. We spent much of our time in the home and it was a delight to explore! Perfect location to access anything in Old Town as well. Chris was an attentive but not overbearing host, which we have all come across! Our families only disappointment was not running into George Washington’s ghost! :)
