ok, the food was great with a good selection of things for breakfast. the location of where we wanted to be was also super. the bar staff were first rate and very understanding of the problems we had when staying there
this was a hotel group from which i expected much better help and understanding to the problem ..
i traveled with my wife and 2 other adult ladies who require the use of a wheelchair . we traveled together so that the group could enter and dance in the competitions they use. when i booked the hotel i looked to make sure that it was disabled-friendly with wheelchair access rooms. i also called them to make sure it was ok for my travel partners.
after a long drive from Groningen to the hotel we arrived as planned at 20.30. i planned to check in and freshen up then eat. the room for my wife and i was ok and we could go and do what we needed but i still had things for the 2 ladies with wheelchairs so stayed to bring their bags to their room. we opened up the door and found that both chairs were unable to get into the bathroom/WC. so returned to reception to see if it could be sorted out... the young lady was very understanding and did her best to help us.. we tried 2 other rooms but had trouble moving around the room with the chairs. also given a room that had a smell from the drainage so was unpleasant that it too was of no use to us.. with little help from her manager on the evening shift we made do with a promise that the rooms would be sorted out for us the next day after we returned from the dance competition. the ladies had to use a beuro stool on wheels with no back support to get to shower and do all they needed in the night... not a good thing but our only option / or drive again 3 hours home. the next day after the competition we returned to our hotel to find that the ladies were not able to again get in the bathroom of their room.we returned to reception but there were no more rooms. we decided to not stay the 2nd night and after the manager had spoken to one of the ladies who speaks better Nederlands than i do we were bought off with a diner and drink at the hotel cost before our drive home... refund is promised

front of hotel looked great but they put me up in the old dependance at the back
noisy

No supervision by the hotel, although they were aware of the problem
3.5
Friendly people, specially at the front desk. Comfortable beds and the area was quite so we had a good rest.
There is renovation going on so be ready to walk among the construction site. Our food at the restaurant was not good. I ordered a Angus burger but it felt like it was just taken form the freezer, so it was like fast food quality.

Location was good for a stop over. Lovely big room and we like the massive bath! We went for dinner in the restaurant, which was really good and the staff were all lovely!
There was a bit of building work going on at the time and the view from the balcony was just the roof of the main building

Location was great for our specific trip. Staff was nice and they really tried. Check-in was smooth and very attentive.
Seems like this hotel really struggles with trained staff and the remodeling that is going on: Around the hotel (outside) its clear there is construction ongoing and even on a Saturday. The outside seating was open for drinks & food but there was no outside service and in general they seemed short on staff with lots of new staff members. We booked a suite and while that had all the nice elements (large bath, big bathroom, etc..) the tiles need replacement, carpet needs replacement and the wall had lose panels. I would not book a suite again against these prices. We had a conformed check-out time for the suite at 12:00 but did get a call at 11:15 that the check-out time had passed and we needed to leave. Breakfast was okay, but not great.

The Breakfast was good, the food at the restaurant was great as usual at VDV
The beds was also nice
The room was clean and tiddy
The service at the restaurant was really slow, many noises in the facility throughout the night, (air vents , water in the shower dripped all night etc )
No lift,
wasn't possible to go to the balcony due to construction

The room was comfortable, as was the bed and bathroom.
The room was fine, and the staff were nice enough. The the eating facilities were quite lacking.
The breakfast was terrible. The food itself wasn’t bad, but the dining room was a complete mess. Tables weren’t bussed, so it was difficult to find a free table. The coffee came from a fancy machine which served mediocre coffee but backed a queue of people trying to use it requiring a 10 minute wait, when a simple manual coffee machine would have made better coffee without the queue. Why do many food vendors fell for these machines is beyond me. Also, the floors were dirty; the dining area appeared understaffed.

As the hotel was under construction, we stayed in the outside “wing” which is not attached to the hotel. Kind of like a motel, where you can park your car directly in-front of the room and have a direct view of it. Two large beds in the family room - this was great!
Nice big private bathroom with a shower and a large bath, toilet in a separate location. Receptionists and most staff were very friendly, especially Joey!
Noise from the construction work. Breakfast/restaurant/reception all in the popup location “Valk Next Door”, so you need to walk outside and around the building to enter - which is understandable due to construction.
The breakfast was somewhat disappointing - spoiled bread, on most days the croissants were overdone, bacon swimming in oil. Not much breakfast choices. Water stained glasses and cutlery.

It was comfortable, clean, nice place.
Breakfast didn’t have any lactose free option.

This hotel was okay on the level of staff and accommodation. Nice clean and large room, nice welcome note and everything there what you need. Beds are more than okay. Breakfast had everything you need.
I didn't like the bathroom. In the douche the water was or HoT like hell of Cool as Ice. When I checked out, I had to explain in very detail what the problem was, no thanks, just taking a note on a small paper.
Also during diner in the pop-up restaurant we got rather strange reactions from the staff. Example we didn't get a card with the drinks on. We ordered three cava's, when we got them no bubbles in one of it, second got partially bubbles and the last one had bubbles like it is normal. But when I asked the waitress, she said they were there when she left the bar ???? .... I explained her that this is not normal then she said to me: can't you taste them. ???? For more then 6 euro's I would like to have bubbles in my glas. (I know what happened, never use old flat cava from the day before!).
The table next to us, they have to ask for a glass of wine 3 different waitresses. SO star hotels demands good staff !
2.5
The staff at the reception desk
The staff at the Restaurant is not welcoming you at all. And the time from your arrival to your meal it is almost 40 minutes every time.
