About this cottage rental
Perfect for families, this cottage has a large garden and is great as a base for touring Somerset.
Offering delightful holiday accommodation for families, this holiday property makes an ideal base from which to explore Somerset and North Devon. Barrowswood, a semi-detached holiday cottage, enjoys commanding views over Cheddar Gorge in the distance. Its large garden adjoins a field with occasional visiting sheep and is the perfect spot in which to relax and unwind with magnificent views over the field and across to Cheddar Gorge.
Cheddar village offers plenty of interesting shops and cafes as well as other attractions. Cheddar Gorge, Britain’s largest limestone ravine gouged through the Mendips, is a magnet for climbers, walkers and visitors to the floodlit caves and Cheddar Reservoir is a great place to take a picnic, look out for wildlife and join in activities such as sailing and angling. Axbridge is a charming market town with a medieval square and half-timbered buildings, whilst Wookey Hole attracts many visitors to the showcaves. Wells is England’s smallest city set around a cathedral; Wedmore is a lively town with many individual shops and eateries, Glastonbury is famous for its music festival, spiritual culture and King Arthur legends, and the coastal resorts and magnificent beaches at Weston-super-Mare, Burnham-on-Sea, Berrow and Brean are all within a short drive, as are the cities of Bath and Bristol. Shop, pub and restaurant 1 mile.
Ground floor: Living room. Second living room with patio doors/dining room/kitchen with breakfast area. Utility room. Separate toilet. First floor: 4 bedrooms: 3 double (5ft), one with en-suite shower room and toilet, 1 twin. Bathroom with bath, shower cubicle and toilet.

All properties: Electricity, bed linen and towels included. Travel cot and high chair on request. DVD. Microwave. Washing machine. Fridge/freezer. Wi-fi. Patio with sitting-out area and furniture. No smoking.

We were a group of four friends who found the property very welcoming and choose a larger property to allow us a bedroom each. Close to Cheddar so walkable and also near to lots of amenities and towns to visit

Enjoyable stay. Facilities as described. Plenty of space to socialise together inside or in the garden. Our 9 yr old grandson said he would like to live here.

Much more spacious than the photos depict, lovely views, great garden, comfy beds, sound sleeps, sociable spaces, great Aga, close to houses on one side but all peaceful and completely private once through the little private road, I would 100% recommend the property, just wish we had another week.

Lovely property a short distance from Cheddar Gorge
We've just returned from a family break at Barrowswood for my mum's 60th. Property was perfect for the whole family including lots of indoor and outdoor space to keep the kids entertained. Amanda allowed us to arrive for a slightly earlier check-in and greeted us shortly after we arrived to check everything was OK. Would 100% recommend and stay again. Thanks.

Such a lovely property and in such a gorgeous location. We enjoyed walking around Cheddar reservoir and around the gorge (both walks can be done from the house). Wells was a real discovery and Sandy Bay a great location for a quiet beach afternoon. We also enjoyed the facilities at the house including plenty of room, a large garden, the barbecue and more. Would definitely recommend. (The only downside was that the bath was cracked by the previous residents and so we couldn't use it during our stay.)

Really nice house. Large garden with views and privacy. Nice beds! Poor cleanliness let it down otherwise it would be a 5 star review. Bit surprised as later check in / earlier check out times are to put additional Covid cleaning in place. We had a fab week with beautiful weather however. Loved the area.

The house has so much room. We didn’t use the larger living room as the open plan kitchen/dining/living room was very cosy. We really had a lovely relaxing long weekend.

Beautiful house for a perfect stay!
We booked this house for a surprise family reunion for my partner's 30th birthday. It was perfect! Extremely clean with everything we needed. Lots of space, really comfortable beds, sofas and dining table, huge outdoor space - I can't fault it! Amanda was a brilliant host, really easy to contact and on hand for anything we needed. About a 20 minute walk into the centre of Cheddar but easy to drive and a lovely quiet location. Would definitely recommend!

Fabulous summer family holiday
The house was in top condition and ideal for our family of five with space to spare. The well kept secure garden was perfect for playing outdoor games and bbq’s. Local area has plenty to explore with walks, skate parks and good pubs.

A welcome break
A lovely home in a beautiful location. The aga was amazing :)
The house itself was always warm and cosy with plenty of areas to sit and read, play games or just stand around the aga drinking hot chocolate.

Lovely spot. Lovely house.
Cannock speak highly enough of Barrowswood. A great house with everything you need on hand without being cluttered. Spotlessly clean throughout. Different lounge / sitting areas (ideal for holidaying with teenagers!). Toasty warm house, especially the kitchen with the Aga. Lots of parking space. Lovely size square garden (sadly we didn’t use due to poor weather), with a paddock next door with two sheep. To top it all off the owners are super friendly and really helpful. Perfect. Thank you.

We had a lovely weekend staying here that we have already booked to come back for a full week in April.
The location, the house everything is so lovely. The kitchen has everything you could imagine.
My children loved running around outside.

A lovely confortable well equipped house
Our group of 7 enjoyed the weekend in Cheddar and the house was close to the town yet pleasantly secluded. We could not fault the standard of accommodation and particularly liked the configuration of the dining area, kitchen and snug. The Aga in the kitchen made this area very cosy. Having a second lounge was a bonus.

Superb cottage
Absolutely loved the cottage from the moment we walked in. It is spacious and has everything you will need. Garden spacious which is great with 2 little children and it’s flat.
Bedrooms are large and everything was spotless.
It was great having the 2 TVs and we all loved set up in kitchen/diner.
Location is ideal and there are lots of places to visit. Loved having Cheddar on the doorstep.
Rachel greeted us and she was so helpful. It was also good that Amanda was at the end of the phone to help with any queries.
Would definitely recommend the cottage - and have already done so to several friends - and would love to stay in it again. Thank you.

We had a great family Christmas in an excellent property in a great area, close to a picturesque reservoir, walking distance of Cheddar Gorge and a short drive to the beautiful town of Wells.

Amazing House
A beautiful house in a fabulous location with absolutely everything you could wish for included. Our Australian friends loved it as much as us and it is certainly a place I would recommend to anyone. We even mastered the Aga with the assistance of a lovely lady names Rachel, who came and welcomed us the first night. Comfortably enough space for 6 people, even 8. Thanks you.

perfect central location for endless lovely places for families and like us elderly people
The property was so comfortable we never felt the need to be out and about at all times. Garden and views on the doorstep. Lovely welcome from the owner and good support network in place. There was plenty of indoor entertainment, games and videos. Lots of useful information and maps available on arrival. After the first day we found quite a few nice places to eat out.
