Lovely old house in a beautiful part of Santa Cruz

The location is excellent
We were a couple and a single mature lady travelling together. There was a man who would get into the hostel at night and sleep on the sofa right outside the lady's room. She was too scared to leave the room with him there. We told the staff but they weren't at all concerned.
My husband and I had a room at the back of the hostel. The smell in the room was terrible. I'm not sure of the source but it didn't go in the three days we were there.
I've stayed in many hostels and this was one of the worst.

Good central position
Security is poor to none existent.
I had a homeless man sleeping on the sofa outside my room for two nights as a solo traveller I felt insecure going to the bathroom in the night. Staff were very dismissive of my complaint. I left 2 nights early to go to a much better place...

So close to the bus stops and opposite a nice cafe for breakfast etc. Easy to take the Airport bus or walk to the ferry port. Clean property , comfy bed, nice lounge and balcony for quiet chilling. The stairs and hallways have lights that come on automatically- a nice modern touch in an old style property. Can get key from key safe when reception is closed.

very central close to busstop, Old and charming
i slept in room number 6, and there was a terrible smell, comming from the backyard. i Think also there was a smell from a open tube comming out into the room. i Think there used to be zink, now the tube was just left open. it was realy not okay, since the staff is almost not there and i was late when i found out, it was too bad.

I loved the Spanish colonial atmosphere of the building. The folding shuttered window in my room to the front was a wonder just to behold (and to operate). This house is the total antithesis of 1970s Costa concreta Spain!
I liked not having a television anywhere in the building and also the way guests interacted with other guests during my stay.
Let's be clear: La Cubana is not for everyone. It is an old building and has its fair share of quirks, as you would expect. It is also a 1-Star Pension (and does not claim to be otherwise). All I can say is, I loved my time in La Cubana and in Santa Cruz de la Palma and I would be happy to return. The mattress was new. I found it firm and comfortable. My room in the front was bright and cheerful. The price was right.
The staff were very approachable and friendly and could be seen cleaning the facilities each day.
To be honest, I enjoyed the quirky aspects of La Cubana.

good locality
There is a mold in the room number 6, so we had health problems. For the second night they gave our money back and we left.

The Pension is located in a historic building direct in the Center. There is a little kitchen, so I prepared my daily breakfast. A very good bakery is direct in Front of the entrance. I had my daily Coffee there.
I've not heard a lot from outside but you can hear you "neighbour" near and above you. I only had one night with a noisy Person...so its o.k. A charming place.

Staff and location
Spirit of the room. Sound isolation of the rooms.

Friendly & helpful staff. Location is superb for ferry port & bus station.
Property has character in that it is 200 yrs old but it could definetely do with a sympathetic renovation to bring it up to more modern standards. Room was too hot with no air con or fan available.

The location.
Quite noisy due to music activities at night in next to bars. But they finish at 23:00-24:00. Ear plugs may help.

The places has its charm, as it is a historical building. Very well located to explore the city and also close to the port if you are arriving by ferry. Also the place were buses that goes to the different parts of the island is just 5 min walk.
If the room faces the street, the noise during the night might be a bit annoying.

5* receptionist, great location.
I saw WORMS on the toilet paper...Yes, read that again. Imagine the situation: you do your stuff and when you want to clean yourself...Bedsheets were dirty...I was scared to get bugs after sleeping there. Super noisy: bring your earplugs...Genuinely avoid the place.

The location was just perfect, a stone's throw away from the beach and no more than 5 minutes to the bus station for the route to and from the airport.
The staff were very friendly and would help with any queries that you had.
