- unique & luxurious tent experience
- breathtaking dinner location (in the middle of the camp underneath a sky full of stars and glow worms 😍
- view into the nature
- extremely friendly ranger
- we had two times dinner at the camp. I am vegan and my bf is vegetarian. on the second evening the food was not tasty. it lacked spices and the veggies were not cooked thoroughly. I couldn’t eat it. in case you are vegan please explain exactly what it means as I got also served dairy icecream.
- on our last day the AC went down in our room. we were close to a collapse as the tent got so hot

Everything at Leopard Trails was absolutely perfect.
Rooms (lakeside)
Elegantly decorated, classic without feeling outdated. All facilitates were provided, including incredible aircon! Felt super luxe!
Location
Close to the entrance of Yala. we were first there for the morning safari.
The People
So attentive, went above and beyond to make the stay special. Great food.
Safari
we went out twice, the morning and evening. If we could have our time again, we would have done three in total.
The team were very respectful of the animals, never getting too close and taking great pride in seeing them in their natural habitat.
A HUGE shoutout to our tour guide Ashan who made our experience one that we will never forget. He is incredibly knowledgable, super passionate which made us even more excited, as well as knowing a lot about the bigger creatures he took much care and joy in the smaller ones too (side note, insane bird knowledge!). I even got a little photography tutorial, which meant that I could photograph the beautiful creatures with my new found skills.
Would 100% recommend booking your stay here.

Great location, staff and super customer service
It was a tad more expensive than we'd have liked it to be, but no complaints regarding the experience.

To list some of the all around perfect stay.
- super quite and remote (if you don’t mind the sound of the jungle around you)
- absolute adorable staff who try to fulfill any wish you might got
- best Safari rides with the best driver (scooby) and incredible educated and nicest Ranger (Dhanula) who make this trip forgetable.
nothing, everything was perfect!

I loved my stay here! I arrived and got a yummy lunch and then was off on my first safari. I came back to a delicious outdoor candlelit meal- and everything made for me was vegan the entire stay- it was all very delicious and big portions. I loved the location as it was close to the north entrance and block 1 and it is far less busy as the other entrance, so entering Yala National Park. was easy and quick. My guide Dhanu was enthusiastic, engaging and so much fun to be on safari with. We spotted a leopard and a 4 month old cub and it was magical. I learnt so much from him too! My room was very comfortable, it had everything I needed, and I loved the plunge pool for cooling down after safaris during the day and late night with having the pool lights on. I enjoyed speaking with who I think is the manager- he has a wealth of wisdom and has great stories. His passion for nature is inspiring. If you love nature, this is the place to stay, and your gateway to Yala National Park.
That I only stayed 1 night, 2 would have been better.

Leopard Trails is one of the more unique hotel options in Sri Lanka and especially around Yala National Park. Our dedicated Guide/assistant for all things at the hotel and in the Park was especially lovely, efficient and useful to have. The food was excellent and plentiful and the chef was especially kind in providing special requests. Every meal was presented nicely and it never felt like we were in a tented camp but rather a semi-outdoor restaurant with gorgeous lighting in the evening and elegant meals throughout our stay
I can't think of much except perhaps the cost which seems exorbitant at first (especially during the high season) but once you factor in dedicated park guide costs, park entry fees, park transportation, meals, and accommodation, it feels less so. But well worth it for a special visit to the Park with family and friends. And to see leopards and all the animals so close by...

Extraordinary care and personalized service provided by Danu and all other staff. He was fantastic in Safari too
they could have done better job in keeping flies and mosquitos away from the rooms. There were thousands of flies in the room and on our bed. We had to call them at midnight to help us get rid of them. They should install nets to tent doors and beds.

This place is awesome. The tents are really impressive. We were the only guests and the service was incredible. We did 3 private safaris and saw leopards + elephants and loads of other stuff. Our guide was fantastic, he was really knowledgeable and helpful and couldn't do enough to make sure we were well looked after. The food was also excellent.

We loved everything about our stay! The warm welcome, our beautiful room with a plunge pool that the kids enjoyed very much, the incredible service and attention to detail, the kindness of the staff, the best food we had in Sri Lanka, extraordinary safaris and last but not least our incredible guide Danu, thank you for spoiling us and sharing your passion for your country, nature and wildlife.
Everything was perfect.

This is just a standout camp next to Yala. The 'tents' are just amazing especially if you go for the ones with a plunge pool. This is real luxury. A drink awaits you when you return from a game drive and the food is just amazing. Evening meals are served outside in the jungle. I'd advise you stay 2 nights though as you're not going to get the full experience by doing one night. Sitting in the pool in the day and watching the water buffalo and monkeys was just magical. Staff are great and will bring you a complimentary bottle of wine to the room on request
There's no wifi. But you're in the jungle. Get a local SIM.

The food was good and the safari guide was very knowledgeable about the vegetation and wildlife
The property is ridiculously expensive for what they offer. They pitch themselves as exclusive camping however the facilities within the tents are in need of refurbishment; stains on the rush mats, electrical wiring that could be improved, plus sockets not working. In summary everything looking a little jaded and tired (neglected).
Our safari drives were a disappointment; while our guide was knowledgeable he was not good at helping us spot wildlife. We did a couple of safaris prior to this in other parks within Sri Lanka and found the drivers much better at spotting animals and pointing them out to us. We seemed to spend hours driving aimlessly around the park devoid of any strategy other than ‘trying to spot animals’.
So here’s a suggested strategy called ‘utilise the eyes’ based on the following few assumptions:
1. that leopards spend most of the daylight hours resting in the shade
2 they are not predisposed to noisy 4x4s are are likely to withdraw at the sound.
3. the jeep holds 3 or 4 pairs of eyes who are very eager to spot leopards.
The Strategy:
1. Have one set of binoculars for each seat.
2. Give some initial instructions to all guests on where leopards are most likely to be found.
3. Drive slowly (rushing around in a noisy 4x4 is not pleasant for guests or animals)
4. Pause and stop frequently to allow guests to enjoy the scenery and the ambiance and look for animals.

The staff was very helpful right upon arrival and made sure we had everything we needed and more. They even brought out a cake for our honeymoon at dinner! Loved the camp setup and the friendly staff.
We traveled during peak season so the prices were a bit high, but otherwise wouldn't have changed anything.

Our guide Sachin was very helpful and tried to do his best.
Everything else was disappointing.
Rooms are too old, dirty, even with mold on the sieling. It need Immediate renovation.
A lot of bugs in the room.
The food is for a 3 star hotel. For lunch you have choice of: chicken curry, rice, potatoes, baked pineapple and beans. That's all. Nothing healthy.
The territory looks like nobody cares about it.
The car for safari very damaged, may be 20 years old. Not comfortable at all.
We very surprised the day before arrival that they couldn't charge from the card we provide to booking.com and we should do a wire transfer or payment via link. We are already traveling have sometimes poor internet and have to do it. We understood it only when called them by ourselves.
It definitely doesn't worth 700$, not more 150$.
We have been many times in Africa and it's the worst glamping we saw.
3.5 / 5.0
Safari tour and our guide, of course. We saw all the animals we wanted to see, the trips have exceeded our expectations.
The idea behind luxury tents is fantastic, however, our tent appeared to be a little bit tired and needed refurbishment. Bugs that are attracted to the light were a huge problem inside the tent, they were creeping in from somewhere and my wife ended up with multiple bites in the morning. Bot unexpected but could have been managed better. Also, for this price point food could have been better.

We loved our stay at Leopard Trails. We researched a lot of places for our safari whilst in Sri Lanka and picked Leopard Trails for the glamping and more rustic experience. We were disappointed. The set-up is really well done, lovely decor and location near Yala national park. The rooms are comfortable and well air conditioned and the out door shower is fun! The food was excellent / some of the best we had in Sri Lanka and the wine offered was delicious which was a plus. The staff are all lovely as well and really attentive.
This isn’t even getting to the main event, the safaris themselves. It’s always a gamble if you will see the famous elephants and leopards of Yala, and we were lucky enough to see both! And many more wonderful animals in the wild -
Big thanks to our fabulous guide Krishan. He was excellent.
We loved our stay and would definitely go again!
Nothing, it delivered everything I expected it to.
