I would like to take the time to talk about the amazing experience at our vacation rental. The owner Sophia met us when we arrived and explained everything about the house we needed. It was clean and cozy, and we enjoyed our stay. Sophia also shared her courtyard with us, and explained the historic of her home, and also answered any question about the city Hoorn. The house for exceeded our expections and we cannot say enough about Sophia who was generous with her time letting us know all the best spots in the city. Thank you again and we will definitely return. Chantal from Quebec Canada

Our stay at this historic chapel in Hoorn was truly special. The property is beautifully furnished, combining the charm of its historic roots with modern comforts. The location is perfect, a short walking distance to the center of Hoorn, for easy access to local attractions, shops, restaurants, and the harbour. The kitchen is well-outfitted and the outdoor courtyard is a great space to relax and enjoy the beautiful garden. The beds were comfortable, ensuring a good night's rest after days spent exploring.
The hosts were very accommodating, ensuring we had everything we needed for a pleasant stay. We highly recommend this unique and comfortable chapel to anyone looking for a memorable experience in Hoorn.

My kids and I had a wonderful stay at the chapel. It was perfectly located between harbor and central square. Shopping and train station are pretty close too. Sofia was very helpful including giving us recommendations, bikes to borrow, and even a jacket to my daughter! Our stay was great and the town is beautiful!

Fantastic house in a wonderful location!
We thoroughly enjoyed our week in Hoorn! The house was gorgeous, clean, well equipped, and in a perfect location to explore the city. Sophia, the host, was very welcoming and provided brochures and detailed suggestions for what to do and see in the region. We would definitely stay there again and highly recommend it.

Beautiful!
We were looking for somewhere to stay near to Amsterdam but quiet and relaxed: the chapel was perfect! From the moment we arrived and Sophia introduced us to Hoorn, we knew we had found a great place. We traveled to Amsterdam by train some days and other days we wandered around Hoorn's historic buildings and by the lovely waterfront. Returning to the beauty of the chapel each day was wonderful. Sophia and Leo were very hospitable; if we are ever back in Hoorn, we would absolutely want to stay at the chapel again.

Urlaub in historischem Gemäuer

Lovely escape to Hoorn
We had a lovely, relaxing vacation in the chapel. A concern for future travelers, the staircase was very steep and narrow; if you are mobility challenged this would not be a recommended place to stay. We took the train from Amsterdam and found the walk from the train station to the home to be fairly easy even though it was 3/4 of a mile. The kitchen was well stocked and we easily found a grocery store close by to cook several meals. We loved walking around the city of Hoorn stopping at cafes. We found the very best apple tart and coffee at Het Koffielokaal which was about 3 blocks from the house. Overall, we would definitely stay in this home again and would recommend it.

Gorgeous get away!
This hidden gem was such a great find. Nestled in between houses and the nearby waterfront made it especially lovely. Stairs are not for the faint of heart but everything else was fantastic!

This place comes highly recommended.

A taste of life in the Netherlands!
The chapel is lovely and very comfortable for our group of three adults. Great location in the historic district of Hoorn, and Sofia is a wonderful hostess. She met us on our arrival and had all the information we could need about local things to see, do, and eat at her fingertips. She checked in with us regularly to make sure all was well, and was always available to answer questions, making sure that we felt welcome and had everything we needed to enjoy our stay. We've been to Holland several times before and always learn something new, but this trip really gave us a sense of how the Dutch people live. Can't wait to go back again and hope the Alewijn is available when we do! Cannot recommend this property highly enough!

Peaceful place with a relaxed feel. Fully equipped and comfortable. Very well situated in the centre of Hoorn. Sophia could not be more helpful and friendly. Private parking a bonus. Would definitely recommend it and would return if we need a place to stay in Hoorn in the future.

Special property in a very picturesque location.
Unique property, very well maintained, definitely recommended. Stairs will make this unsuitable for you if you have mobility issues but this is to be expected for a historic property in the Netherlands. Excellent hosts.

Beautiful, Historic and location!
Our trip started off by getting in very late, but Sophia was very understanding!
The home was beautiful, grounds lovely and secure.
The town is absolutely beautiful and would retire their in an instant.
The people were so lovely, the town is quiet, the restaurants were close and their are several nice antique shops within a couple of blocks.
The hostess (Sophia) was a very sweet & gracious lady, she went above & beyond to make our stay wonderful!
Sophia purchased coffee and creamer night before, so we would have coffee when we awoke, those are the little touches you can't get at hotels.
The home was exactly as shown on site. The home is a beautiful historic landmark, but has all the modern conveniences without losing the charm.
The beds are very comfortable, the bath was perfect, kitchen was charming and was well equipped.
I would highly recommend this lovely historic B&B.
Thank you Sophia for a lovely stay

Ideal location set within a spacious courtyard, quiet and sheltered from traffic.
Two drawbacks as far as our situation is concerned as we are in our seventies, as we found the narrow twisting stairs a challenge. Also be aware that bedroom two is accessed through bedroom one. Ideal for families. However this did not spoil our short break.
Sophia the owner was friendly and helpful, even to the extent to waiting for us outside the courtyard entrance on our later than expected arrival time.
We would certainly recommend The Old Chapel as an ideal holiday location.

Absolutely beautiful and peaceful, great location for exploring the Netherlands!
My husband and I stayed here with our 16 year old daughter, traveling to the Netherlands from USA for our son's soccer (he stayed with the soccer team in nearby Purmer). The photos don't lie, it is a beautiful chapel with a beautiful private courtyard. From the road and parking lot, you cannot even see the chapel, my daughter loved that it was like stepping into a magic fairytale from her childhood (and the wifi works well, so teenagers are happy!). We rented a car so having a parking spot was added bonus. It was about 40 minutes into Amsterdam which we did several times, but we also explored Volendam and Alkmaar which were short drives away and even had to go as far as Eindhoven for a professional game (about 2 hours). You don't need a car to explore as the train is right there and very easy.
At nights it was wonderful to relax in the courtyard and go over our photos and memories of the day. My daughter enjoyed the jacuzzi tub to herself while my husband and I drank our wine and had some nice alone time. The town of Hoorn is wonderful place to visit in itself, with some of the best restaurants we've tried in the Netherlands. Not all restaurants here will have an English menu like they do in Amsterdam, but we found all the wait staff could speak English and were happy to translate for us. The town is picturesque on water with cobblestones and medieval fort and houses and beautiful architecture and lovely town square with many upscale shops. There is nearby place to rent kayaks or paddle-boards for lovely day on the water.
While we were there a very big festival or carnival came to town - with big rides and typical carnival booths for food and games. We found out this is one of the largest in the Netherlands, it basically takes over the town. That made for a tricky time driving in and out, but the kids enjoyed it very much. The rides go on until 1:00am, so if you are looking for just peace and quiet and don't have kids to enjoy the carnival, than probably best to avoid the 10 days in August when it comes to town.
The only down sides that should be noted is that the beds and bathroom are at the top level and the steps are very narrow and steep spiral staircase. A little scary and knees hurt from many trips to the toilet. There is toilet on first floor but it is old and didn't flush. Also, the spiders are everywhere even hanging over the beds, so often daughter would scream and we'd have to remove the spider and put it outside for her.

Great location, unique accommodation
Hoorn was lovely and the accommodation is in a peaceful location close to the main sights and shopping area. The chapel is a beautiful building and a very unusual place to stay. It was clean and well looked after with good facilities. The open sided stairs were a little tricky for our small children but the large garden space is wonderful for kids, even with a small sandpit and bikes to play with. Having the owners live across the garden made it a bit less private, although they were very friendly, and it was a shame that we didn't have full use of the garden on our main day there as they were using it for a family party.

Delightful property - photos cannot do justice to beautiful garden.
We had an excellent time. Accurate listing, clean, well furnished.
The property is well located in very picturesque area and close to all activities. Sophia made sure we had everything we needed and especially helped with one year old. Hope to come back next year.

An unique house in a superb location.
We've just returned from a wonderful week in this amazing house in the lovely city of Hoorn. Sophia was a wonderful host full of great ideas for places to visits and things to do around the area.
The house is a converted chapel in a very peaceful area of the town with a large garden area to the rear in which you can relax in peace. The house itself has everything you need for your stay and Sophia even included a bottle of wine on arrival. Close by is the harbour and marina where you'll find a few restaurants and bars or alternatively the centre of Hoorn itself has an excellent choice of restaurants all within a very short walking distance.
We'd highly recommend this to anyone who wants to visit this lovely city.

Fabulous!
Superb location just minutes from great restaurants, beautiful harbour and only 30 minutes from Amsterdam on the train. Why would anyone not want to stay in Hoorn? Our hosts were always there if you wanted them to assist with anything, but never intrusive. Thank you Sophia for a wonderful week and an escape from city life, whilst within a major town.
