About this apartment rental
A gorgeous vintage apartment with new appliances, full kitchen, high speed internet and remodeled bath. Not one but two striking outdoor spaces—a deck and balcony with amazing views of downtown KC.
Near everything downtown KC with great views of the Crossroads arts district. Dozens of venues are walkable and uber-able: the Convention Center, Kauffman, restaurants, music, bars, light rail line and lots more. Book this highly-reviewed loft now!
Space
You'll be staying in a lovingly restored third-floor loft apartment with a spacious living/dining room, full kitchen, gorgeous bedroom and newly remodeled bath. The bedroom features a private walk-out porch in the treetops and the enormous full-size deck off the kitchen serves up stunning downtown views.
Guest access
You'll have the key code to unit 3N, which takes up half the third floor and is otherwise known as the "White Owl." Also, not to be overlooked—the basement laundry room. (Request the code if needed.)
Guest interaction
We may or may not not meet face to face, but I'm typically close by and happy to offer tips and recommendations on the local arts and food scene, especially all things related to indie music, coffee culture, craft cocktails and beer.
Neighborhood overview
You likely already know. But if not: You'll be in the heart of downtown Kansas City, which is enjoying an urban renaissance reflected in painting and music and dance and architecture, yes, but also in local breweries, bistros, cocktails and coffee. It's a fun time to be here and you'll be in the middle of it. You'll be within walking distance to everything (slight exaggeration, but not a big one). Two blocks from the Kauffman Performing Arts Center. Dozens of galleries, bars and restaurants around the corner. Under a mile to Liberty Memorial, Crown Center, Union Station, the Sprint Center, the College Basketball Experience, and the Power and Light District. If you're looking for a home base for your downtown Kansas City adventure, this is it.
Noise Note
This is a neighborhood with noise expectations, not a spot for parties or events. No shouting, fighting, honking horns, loud music, etc. Common sense stuff.
Just So You Know...
Depending on the route you take to arrive, your first impression of my neighborhood may not be awesome (a couple guests have mentioned this)—the city has some delayed maintenance to do on a highway ramp and several sidewalks, and there are a couple ugly buildings slated for redevelopment. But have no fear! This area is highly sought after and once you arrive, you'll see why (guests mention this too)—your loft is right in the middle of KC's downtown renaissance. So no worries.
Getting around
A lot of your destinations will be within walking distance if you're working or playing downtown. Light rail runs downtown, and Bike Share KC rentals are available nearby, as well as a comprehensive bus system. Uber is popular around here as well. You'll have free street parking at our location, a quiet residential boulevard just around the corner from all the action.
Other things to note
I supply clean sheets, towels, an equipped kitchen, and all basic amenities as well as high speed internet, a blue tooth music player, and smart tv (no cable). If you have questions about specific items, feel free ask.
If you're still reading, well done!—and one more thing. I clean this loft thoroughly after every stay, and I'm a conscientious guy—think vacuuming, spraying, scrubbing, etc. However, this unit is 100 years old, and the floors show it. When you're writing your review, I'd love to get a 5 star "clean" rating, so make sure the building's nicks and paint marks don't give you a false impression of dirt. It's tricky that way.

Gracious Host
AJ described everything accurately from the description of the loft to the neighborhood, it is all laid out.
I, however, came in like a bit of a really tired tornado thinking i had booked my stay beginning a day before it actually began & even forgot to pay the other payment before i arrived. AJ messaged me the next morning & let me check in early, after that final payment of course. He was really quite understanding of my late night panic.
The loft is in the heart of my old neighborhood & it was really wonderful staying there for a few days. It is exactly what I lived in as a twenty-something exploring the city with my friends every night. & the city view from the back porch is an awesome view of downtown/the crossroads/union station/ww2 memorial.

Good location
Good location, clean, walking distance to restaurants. Would stay here again.

OK but not what I had in mind
Place is clean and location to downtown was great. Balcony view was awesome! Our favorite spot to hang out. Building is older, floors super squeaky and loud. Owner did a good job with what he had to work with in regards to remodeling. AJ was responsive to emails/ texts. Just overall was not really what I was anticipating.

Great Spot
This is an excellent place to explore Crossroads and the Power and Light District. Beautiful old third floor property, walkable to BBQ, breweries, and bars!

AJ was great to work with! He made sure we had everything we needed to access the property.
Very clean and nostalgic property perfectly located for those wanting to enjoy the KC area. AJ was quick to respond to questions we had and was very accommodating to requests we made. The only negatives would be the size of the TV compared to the size of the common area and the mattress. Would have chosen 4.5 stars if available.

Great location close to restaurants and bars.
This condo was well equipped and the location was great for people who have activities to attend downtown. It's only a 12 minute walk to the convention centre and there are several good restaurants along the way.

Good location for exploring Crossroads District
This apartment is as advertised re walkability, minimalist décor, convenience to downtown KCMO and Crossroads Arts District with MUCH to do & see. Streetcar is a really nice amenity - runs very regularly, stops nearby, makes it easy to get from one end of the District to the other, esp if weather's not great. Apartment was reasonably quiet with windows closed (urban neighborhood - which we love and live in ourselves so 'city noise' comes with the territory) and reasonably comfortable, with nice views off both balconies. Parking in front was always available, convenient. AJ was able to accommodate our early check-in & was available/responsive via text. Bed was comfortable, HVAC good. Tiny kitchen, only the most basic utensils & cookware + fairly good walk to get to a grocery store, so not particularly condusive to cooking. That said, there are many good/interesting restaurants within walking distance and if you have a car, even better. Probably best for a couple. All in all, good place to spend 5 days reacquainting ourselves with the downtown KC area.

Comfortable affordable urban loft in the Arts District. Walking distance to coffee and restaurants
If you are looking to stay at a really comfortable place that feels like you are "living like a local" in an area within walking distance to coffee, bars, art and shopping in the trendy Arts District, this place is for you! Stayed in AJ's loft while visiting friends in KC. Although we have visited KC dozens and dozens of times, this is the first time that I have felt like I had an intimate urban experience.
Really loved this apartment! Let me tell you why.
1. The location is great! The Arts District is a vibrant, trendy neighborhood with great coffee houses, restaurants, bars and shops within walking distance. Abundant street parking, residential area.
2. Apartment restoration is well-done. Beautiful woodwork, good finishes, comfortable furnishings, great bathroom, comfortable bed, well-equipped kitchen, large open space.
3. The light and outdoor space in this apartment is amazing. Lots of windows and two outdoor balconies. The large back balcony has a great view of the Arts District. These two features set this apartment apart from many other urban spaces and give it a really appealing vibe.
4. Love the full kitchen and the large sturdy dining room table.
5. The bedroom has a fireplace, pretty build-ins and a balcony with settee.
6. Bathroom has a relaxing rainfall shower head, hairdryer, good towels, and convenient wall hooks.
7. The keyless entry is super convenient. Check-in was effortless.
8. This unit is well equipped with little extras - umbrella, extra pillows, reading material, air mattress, extra hangers. The kitchen is well stocked.
9. Really enjoyed the personal touches in the decor. Comfortable minimualism.
10. The apartment and the neighborhood is quiet. Expected nighttime urban noise but no rowdy neighbors.
One of the best things about this apartment is owner. AJ was extremely responsive, very flexible and accommodating. The apartment was very accurately described and reflects pride in ownership. I appreciated the modest cleaning fee. The unit was clean and well cared for.
Who should not consider staying here? Guests who can not manage the stairs. Guests who like to party and make a lot of noise.
This urban loft is a gem and a great find.

Renovated house in an up and coming neighborhood. Close to downtown and great restaurants.
House has lots of charm and an awesome view of the city and sunsets. Very quiet too. Hard to belive you're just steps from downtown. Conveiently located near 2 trolly stops.

Felt like home
I was in town for a convention, and this was the perfect place to stay. Quiet area (except for the interstate, but honestly, it's like a built in white noise machine!) Good central location to get around KC, too. The pictures posted of this property are an honest representation of the loft. Nice views of the downtown from the rear deck (you get two decks, by the way, and they're both great.). By the end of my stay, I thought of it as "home", as in "I'm ditching this last session at the convention and going home" Thanks, AJ.

Great remodel job on this 100+ year old building.
AJ did a nice job as a DIY remodeler.
A couple of things that travelers need to know.
The large living/dining area is very bright. Great in daytime, but if someone was to sleep on futon in this room, there are no shades or drapes on the two large windows if you like it dark at night. There are only sheers.
The LR is not particularly cozy, but perhaps it's assumed that you would be out and about rather than watching TV. There is only a futon (not meant for comfort) and two indoor/outdoor sectional chairs pushed together in DR. A cozy, stuffed chair would be great addition.
Hopefully AJ will switch refrigerator door hinges to opposite side of door to allow easy access to interior of refrigerator. The frig is in a tight area and it's a bit awkward to squeeze in to get things out. I'm a size 8 but anyone that carries extra weight would have a difficult time opening door. It's an easy fix to switch hinges.
BTW, the old wood counters are awesome and the dining room table is beautiful..

Great space, light, location.
Practically across the street from Kaufman. Check out the sustainability block around the corner. Loved The Gratitude and The Corner restaurants. The street car is Free! Take it to City Market and if you are adventurous try the Blue Nile (Etheopian buffet). Short drive to the Nelson Atkins. I love that museum.

A wonderful stay!
I had a fantastic experience during my solo visit to the loft. AJ was extremely communicative and easy to reach at every point along the way. The place was clean with all necessary amenities. Nice big living room space, with bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen directly adjacent. Information about WiFi access, Kansas City attractions, and apartment expectations were very clearly laid out, making for a smooth visit with excellent communication throughout. I felt right at home, able to come and go as I pleased to get the most out of my Kansas City visit. Recommended!

Spacious flat on the third floor, great place for up to two couples.
Stayed with my daughter and her husband for three nights. AJ was a good host, excellent communication. The building is very cool. We didn't have interaction with other tenants, but I imagine they all love where they live.
My only complaint is that a prior guest apparently had stolen the bedcover for the inflatable extra bed in the common area, so I only had a sheet and an itchy wool blanket - not great for summer. I figured out how the electric pump works, so the bed itself was comfortable. Closet space was adequate, and the kitchen was good. Nice view of the city, and not far from public transit, although we mostly used Lyft. I would recommend light-blocking shades or drapes for the common living area, as the light was sometimes intrusive in the guest room area. I think the main bedroom was great for a couple. Spacious apartment!

Best suited for younger couples. Reserved a room elsewhere!
It was clean. That’s about it.

perfect location!!
This apartment was ideal for pottering around the crossroads and west side, going to cute cafes, bars, and restaurants. It was clean and comfortable, nicely decorated, and had two lovely balconies to enjoy a coffee or wine.
No complaints!

Great getaway!
We had a great time staying here! We were able to walk to most things and the view of the city from the deck was amazing! AJ was very helpful and quick to respond. Really neat old building. KC is an awesome city!

Good location. Noisy at night though.
Nice place. All the amenities. Noisy street when window open. But slept well. Could use a few more pillows.

Our first impression was cute and cozy with a great location to the convention center. Once we settled in we decided to make dinner. We started pulling dishes out and found them dirty, we had to wash everything before we could cook and eat off of the dishes. We thought no big deal, previous guests didn’t do what was asked and it was over looked. While sitting at the table eating the light on the ceiling in the living area fell half off the ceiling. Again no big deal, it didn’t come completely down and still worked. We started doing the dishes after dinner and then discovered how much dust was around on top of the fridge, on the doors etc. I was going to store some things on top of the fridge out of the way and it was ick. The next morning we discovered we didn’t have extra TP so I reached out to AJ who gave me the code for the basement so we could get some more. That was great, not a big deal. Fast forward to the evening before we were leaving. My niece dropped an ear ring back so we started looking for it and that is when we found what was under the bed. Other people’s dirty clothes and so much dust it didn’t look like it had ever been cleaned under. I understand this is an old building but this was beyond “old building”, it was not clean, which was probably the cause of my nieces allergy issues. Even with all of this we were like, okay still a great little loft we will let the owner know of our concerns as an FYI. The response I received from AJ was defensive at best. Telling me that we left crumbs and scraps on the floor which cause it to take 2-3 X longer to clean it. That is laughable concidering what I had just reported to him. We left every dish in the kitchen clean, cleaned the stove and oven door, made sure we took care not to damage the countertop and beautiful wood floors with water and he calls us out for some crumbs being left. We also took pictures when we left and there were maybe 2 or 3 scraps of paper on the floor. He charges a cleaning fee so we didn’t think we needed to sweep and vacuum before we left but I guess he expected us to. It is not like we left garbage all over the place, we cleaned up after ourselves and left things in the kitchen better than we found it. We would have stayed at this property again, even with the problems, until the interaction with the owner. He was very accommodating until we pointed out some things that needed to be addressed to make the stay more comfortable.

The loft was excellent, large balcony in back and smaller in front, both had very good views of the city. The neighborhood is good and filled with similar buildings in a location that is close to pretty much anywhere or thing in Downtown Kansas City. The loft was clean, has a nice little kitchen area, just a really great place to stay. Comfortable and cool loft in middle of Crossroads district Downtown. Next time I visit KC I will most definitely look into renting this place again, hopefully summer though.

Will definitely return to one of AJs units when I come back to KC. The loft space was darling, lots of great natural light, very clean, open space great for work and just chilling. The location is great and had a wonderdul weekend. Within walking distance to everything I needed. Couldn't have been better. Thank you!
