About this house rental
West Winds overlooks the sea in a spectacular position at the southernmost end of the Slade Valley on the Gower Pensinsula. The house is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and is surrounded by National Trust landscapes of Special Scientific Interest (SSI). The location is ideal for families who want peace and dramatic coastal scenery; as well as those who enjoy walking and hiking, fishing, canoeing, swimming, surfing and bird-watching. West Winds sleeps 8 (with 2 extra sofa beds for occasional use) and has recently been renovated throughout in a modern minimalist style with ceramic and wooden floors. The house faces over the Bristol Channel and Atlantic Ocean within over an acre of land. The garden is mainly lawn and has some steep slopes and limestone rock faces. The large sliding windows from the living room have a stunning sea view, and open onto a patio and front lawn, that are ideal for al fresco eating and sunbathing. There is ample car parking space. From West Winds a rough footpath leads a few hundred yards down to “The Sands”, with a short scramble over the rocks to the beach at Slade. You can fish for bass as well as find crabs and lobsters in the rock pools. Because of the Gulf Stream the sea is usually warm enough for swimming from June to September, and with the right conditions surfing can be good. Further afield there is a beautiful coastal path that goes eastwards around the cliffs of Oxwich Point to Oxwich village (4 miles), and westwards across to Horton and Port Eynon Bay (2 miles). West Winds sleeps 8 people.....although there are also sofa beds upstairs and downstairs for occasional use. Downstairs there is the large living room, kitchen, 3 bedrooms (2 double & 1 twin), a modern bathroom and two showers. Upstairs there is a self-contained flat with a double bed, sofa bed, TV, small kitchen and bathroom. This flat is reachable by secure external steps with a handrail at the back of the house. Kitchen facilities: The newly fitted downstairs kitchen has an electric oven, hob and grill, kettle and toaster, dishwasher, microwave and fridge-freezer. Upstairs there is a small kitchen with a washing machine and tumble dryer. There is oil-fired central heating throughout the property. There is a telephone line downstairs and high specification Super Fast Fibre Broadband. Mobile phone reception can be patchy, with Orange offering the best coverage. The Hwam Monet wood-burning stove can only be used with logs (not coal), and we supply kindling and a bag of logs. Clean well-behaved dogs are welcome but smoking is not permitted inside the house.
Please note that behind West Winds there is a small cottage with its own drive and garden. The cottage is available for separate rental by contacting the owners.
N.B. Towels for the bathroom and beach are not supplied.

The location of the house is amazing and the view is outstanding. Very peaceful and relaxing! The walk to the beach was fun and the felt like your own private beach! The house was fine and comfortable and has all the amenities you expect. Some updates are needed and old but overall highly recommended this house and we would visit again for sure!

Lovely hidden location and a gem of a holiday home. Perfect for our family using both upstairs and downstairs’ accommodation at West Winds. Everything you could need for a self catering stay and more with those little extras that you normally need. Such an amazing view of Slade Bay through the huge picture window and from the upstairs balcony. A fantastic location for a very short walk down to the Bay for early morning swimming and a fun climb down the rope access! Highly recommend!

Fantastic home in a perfect location. The size and layout of the house works well for a large group of people, and the ample parking is a bonus. The outdoor seating area is perfect for sitting in the sun overlooking the sea, star gazing at night, and we were lucky enough to see shooting stars and dolphins too! The lounge chairs and outdoor furniture provided were a great edition. It is located only a short walk or drive from picturesque beaches. All of the mattresses are very comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped. The living room sofas could be updated as they're quite tired and the whole house could have been cleaner for example cob webs on walls and furniture and mould needs to removed from the shower. But overall a lovely house and place to stay and we'd happily come again.

The highlight of the property is the stunning location and wonderful views. The accommodation was clear and the comfortable living area ensured we could keep looking at the views! Great instructions to get to the property as it is remote - which was great for our party. We hadn't anticipated the outside staircase to the self contained flat, but it all worked out well. Definitely to be recommended!

We had an incredible stay. 4 adults and one toddler. The view from the house is breathtaking, location great for coastal hikes and afternoons on the beach. The description said no towels, but they were present. Would highly recommend staying here!! I wish we could have stayed longer!

Lovely, clean accommodation with amazing views. We spent a few days here before Christmas to meet up with family. The weather was challenging, but that didn’t take away from the views over the bay , the large windows allowed you to take in all that was happening outside. The log fire was much appreciated on the first night, but the cottage was warm the rest of the time. Everyone loved the place and the dogs thoroughly enjoyed the walks. Would definitely recommend.

Private and quiet location overlooking the sea and beach, near to the coastal path. Enormous opening windows to the patio so you can enjoy the outdoors and the view.
Had a great stay - so did the dog!

Lots of extras that we weren't expecting. The views were stunning and we were able to make use of the firepit and as my father's a queen scout and 2 family members are accomplished guitarists we enjoyed singing some favourite campfire songs. Some of us ventured down to Sands where the dogs had a great time. Disabled parents also enjoyed spending time in Oxwich Bay. Thanks so much

Brilliant view
The key strongpoint of this house is its brilliant seaview.
The online listing mentions that towels are not provided, so this was not a surprise, but we felt that a house of this quality and market position would benefit from towels being provided.

Ok and enjoyed the weekend but could have been cleaner especially the matresses

Amazing property with the best view
Amazing property with the best view. We took everything we needed for a self catering short break with the family & found that it was already stocked with plenty of items to keep us entertained all the crockery needed for our break. We were able to enjoy the massive garden area & take beautiful local walks & a dip in the sea as the weather was on our side. Evenings were mainly spent eating, drinking & stargazing as we had the clearest skies with the most stars I've even seen but we did have a night in watching films with the wood burner crackling in the background. Perfectly clean, good Internet connection & good instructions for all facilities. An overall great stay 👍

Viewtastic
Quiet location with lovely views to sea across the valley, wonderful sunsets & starry skies. Slade beach a few mins walk isn't the easiest to access but is very quiet & clean & wonderful swimming. Oxwich beach just down the road if not up to the rope or rock walk but I managed post ankle op in July.
Excellent broadband essential with 6x 25-30yr old + us old!

We had a lovely week at Westwinds. It is a wonderful, peaceful location and the house is light, airy, and comfortable with everything you need provided. We loved early morning walks to the beach, and long suppers in the garden enjoying the view. A lovely place to be.

Superb
The location and accommodation exceeded our expectations. We could never get tired of the view of the sea from our vantage point over the trees and down to the bay. The peace and quiet made our time restful and the stargazing in the late evening ended each perfect day.

Fabulous place to stay
This property is away from the noise and bussle of everyday life. Fabulous views and a comfortable place to stay. As a family we stayed for a very happy week to celebrate our sons wedding at Oxwich. It was a real haven of tranquility. Much enjoyed by us all, we would definitely recommend. We just hope it doesnt get too popular so that we cant book it again!

A slice of heaven
West Winds is a beautiful cottage in the most amazing location with outstanding views. Gillian, our host was wonderful with immediate communication and information prior to our stay. The house was immaculately clean with everything you need and more to cater for a holiday. Internet access has been upgraded and we had uninterrupted service, however as pointed out in the information there is almost no mobile signal (except perhaps Orange) but there is a landline provided for guest use. All in all a fabulous place to stay and would highly recommend.

Very comfortable house with beautiful sea view! Perfect for exploring the Gower.
Lovely house, cosy, well appointed, comfortable and clean. Very peaceful. Amazing sea views. Jill was very helpful and communicative. No mobile signal (O2/Giffgaff) and wifi is limited but we managed without and it was good to disconnect for a few days! When we needed to work there was good free wifi available at the Oxwich Hotel at the bottom of the hill. Great location for exploring the Gower. Lots of good pubs near by and the brilliant Beach House on beautiful Oxwich Bay.

Beautiful view
We arrived on a lovely sunny September day and the view was exactly like the picture. The location was great and we enjoyed walking to the beach which was very close.

Great Hideaway
This home is located in beautiful secluded spot on the south coast of the Gower peninsular. It includes a downstairs area with three small bedrooms, a shower and a bathroom, a well equipped kitchen area and a spacious sitting area. Upstairs is a long narrow cramped attic studio flat with a kitchen area (with limited equipment) and a bathroom reached by a separate external entrance up a steep metal stairway. Both are equipped with basic furnishings. The wifi has a very weak signal (0.5 mbs) which we found very frustrating.

Wonderful House with Beautiful Views and Peaceful Location
We had a most wonderful week at this beautiful house. Gilliam was always quick to answer all my questions and we were able to speak with their local point-of-contact to deal with the initial issues we had, it was all sorted and resolved with great efficiency. The photos capture only part of the gorgeous view towards the sea and certainly not all of the space for children to explore and have great garden adventures. The kitchen is well equipped, excellent central heating and plentiful hot water. The whole house was spotlessly clean and very comfortable.
The very final driving stretch down the hill is quite steep and it's important not to miss the gated entrance to the house on the left hand side because beyond it the road becomes very rocky and difficult to reverse up again.
The separate self-contained flat on the first floor is idyllic with the most fantastic views.
We made good use of the fire pit into the evenings which the children loved as they ate their marshmallows.
The two drawbacks were having only one bathroom/toilet on the main house although there is an excellent shower on the main bedroom (there is also a bathroom on the flat above), and the double beds not as comfortable as they are smaller than what we are accustomed to, however this is personal and not necessary everyone's experience.
Walking down towards the sea we quickly reached the coastal path. To access the beach you need to scramble over rocks but it is well worth it for it's secluded location and many rock pools to explore. Walking towards the west on the coastal path, we quickly reached Eynon Beach which is lovely and safe for swimming. I highly recommend walking the coastal path all the way to Rhossili, only some eight miles - the coast is stunning.
This is our first visit to the Gower Peninsula and it certainly will not be our last. I highly recommend staying at Gilliam's house.

Absolutely gorgeous!
We came for an October family holiday and were extremely happy with our choice! The property is amazing - cozy, clean, modern, well-equipped - and the location is just stunning. Even though it was too cold for beach days and water sports we never had any shortage of things to do with the kids, and there’s an impressive amount of high-quality restaurants and pubs in the area. Definitely hoping to come back again!

West Winds is a perfect holiday location
Our stay at West Winds in Slade near Oxwich Bay was a total joy. Accommodation was perfect for the six adults and two children who made up our family party. Every facility was provided at the house, to enable us to enjoy our holiday. Standing in large, secluded gardens with beautiful views over the bay, there is easy access to the local beach by foot path. We would heartily recommend West Winds for a restful holiday on this picturesque coastline on the Gower peninsula with interesting places to visit. There are small local shops but no supermarkets and the local inns provide good meals.

location beautiful. Interior of house didn't quite live up to expectations.
The location of the house is beautiful but we were a little disappointed in the interior. It wasn't that clean and several items of crockery needed washing before we could use them!!. The kitchen isn't that well stocked with equipment and the small toaster for eight people is not the large one shown on the web. The second double bedroom is really very small. It would also be handy if there was a torch because it was very dark getting up the stairs to the annex and we couldn't find an outside light.

Wonderful views-amazing location
We booked this house to accommodate our family of all ages (88-2 years) to attend our sons wedding-the location is spectacular -
Apart from a few niggling things eg no ironing board, could not find any pegs -the house is well equipped although you must be aware of the slippery"fire escape steps " upstairs which you have to go outside to enter.
Our main problem which overshadowed the 3 days we were there was that the access road was closed for 2 of the 3 days and although the housekeeper did her best to negotiate with the tarmac crew , it did make our whole time even more stressful than is normal when family weddings are occurring ie decorating the church with our flowers, driving the bridesmaids across the Gower to have hair appointments, taking the cake to Oldwalls, etc etc all had to be achieved and returned to the house before 9am when the roadcrew began, and then we had all to leave in 3 cars as a convoy at once, which was far from ideal-we were only told about this the day before we arrived, when I just happened to ring the housekeeper to confirm access times-it did make matters stressful, we had to change plans drastically ferrying two old grannies and two young children across the Gower to sit with other friends a long time before the wedding ceremony began.
I'll not bore you with the details, I just think we should have been made aware and we might have made alternative arrangements or at least your company could have found us an alternative property as I'm sure there was quite a significant notice given about these roadworks. It really did mess us all about and spoilt our stay in what is a gorgeous spot.

Beautiful spot in Wales
Amazing House just right for getting away from it all. Perfect for families. The Garden is an adventure for children. The owner and caretakers are very helpful.

Really lovely property
Hadn't realised that the fourth bedroom would only be accessed from outside! Guess it was implicit. Likewise had understood that "Linen included" would mean towels too so maybe include "Please bring own towels" on list of amenities. Great atmosphere and fabulous view.
