About this villa rental
A beautiful traditional 'trullo' farmhouse, Casa Castagno is located in the picturesque Puglian countryside but the sea & sandy beaches of the Adriatic coast are within 30 minutes drive and the town of Alberobello is a short 10 minute drive away.
The house has been renovated and lovingly restored to a very high standard, preserving the conical roofed trulli unique to Puglia, but incorporating modern design which creates a stylish, spacious interior.
Casa Castagno has a spacious, stunning, fitted kitchen, lounge, five beds (3 en suite), all with air conditioning & five bathrooms - 4 in the main building and 1 in the pool house. Unlike so many renovated trulli which are cramped and dark Casa Castagno's rooms are light and spacious.
The limestone floors that run throughout the house extend to the shaded terrace which is perfect for outside dining or simply lying back in a recliner chair with a good book.
Set in an acre of grounds is the 12 x 6m salt water pool with a large pool terrace for sunbathing and surrounded by fields. There is a large sail shade on the pool terrace when the sun becomes too much or alternatively take the path leading to the shaded area under the chestnut tree; ideal for relaxing with a book or an after lunch snooze.
Special Celebrations: Casa Castagno is an ideal location for that special celebration. A highly experienced local team can provide you with a night to remember. They will set up and clear up. They provide the tables, linen, glasses, chairs, chef, waiters, wine, in fact everything you can think of is on offer leaving you to simply enjoy your special evening.
The terrace area can accommodate 30 guests and the kitchen size, layout and location make catering for this number of people hassle free.
Local minibus taxis can be arranged to deliver and return guests not staying at Casa Castagno from any of the nearby hotels in Alberobello.
See photo for table lay out and appearance.
Local Activities : Beaches
The nearest beaches to Casa Castagno (30 minute drive) are lidos along the Adriatic coast at Capitolo/Torre Carne - long, beautiful sandy beaches, safe for children.
Activities
Sports
Golf, horse riding, sailing, cycling, and fishing all within 40 mins. Tennis is available in Alberobello.
Health Spa
A health and beauty spa is situated only 5 minutes from the house at the Vicktor Country Hotel.
Local markets
Explore the delights of local markets and stroll around the stalls to savour the freshest fruit, herbs, vegetables and other local produce. Bargains of every kind can be found. Alberobello - Thursday morning; Martina Franca Wednesday morning; Locorotondo -Friday morning; Ostuni -Saturday morning
Other Sights include the caves at Castellana delle Grotte & the Zoo Safari Park
The nearby town of Alberobello: Alberobello (8km - 10 mins drive)
Alberobello is a UNESCO world heritage site because its collection of some 1,500 trulli in an urban environment is unique. The trullo is an architectural feature of Puglia, a dry stone building with a conical roof.
Alberobello is an enchanting, 'fairytale' town with many excellent restaurants featuring local dishes, bars and a 'passegiata' for summer strolling. There are also 'agriturismi' (delicious home grown produce) restaurants outside Alberobello and you can sample local produce in its wonderful market.
Many festivals take place in the summer: folk, classical and modern music; dance and theatre, as well as religious festivals with music performances and fireworks. Alberobello is the centre of an annual pilgrimage to the Basilica dedicated to the martyr saints Cosma and Damiano.

We had a perfect stay at the villa. Air conditioning and pool in good condition. Nice areas outside for relaxing, and we cooked dinner at the house several nights. The house is very well equipped. Nice bathrooms, and the bedrooms had extra pillovs/blancets. We were 10 persons for a week, and we loved it!

Our extended family, ranging in age between 7 and 66, had a wonderful stay in this lovely property. From the swimming pool to the bedrooms, from the outside seating ( and shaded areas) to the extremely well equipped kitchen we cannot fault it in any way.
Couple this with the rural quietness and the ease at driving to the nearest towns for food shopping, dining and culture it has proved to be a perfect property.

We have had the most glorious stay at Casa Castagno and it served our needs amazingly - never have we had such an amazing rental kitchen but car hire is essential due to the location which is a peaceful haven. We have become addicted to Primitivo and the Puglian life style …. But not the Italian driving !

Great place for a family & friends get together.
Lovely rural setting amidst rolling hills & farms.
Fantastic cheese farm 1km walk down the road.
Kitchen set up enabled all in our group of 9 who wanted to cook up fabulous feasts using local produce found on our daily excursions.
Outside terrace, dining area & pool were well used, especially our 1st week while the daylight lasted longer & temperatures were warmer.
Screens on the windows (& doors), and maybe even some fly strips would have helped keep the flies outside rather than in; we created a new game of 'fly swatting Olympics' to try to keep the flies under control. Thank you for having a few fly swatters and food screen covers available to use to protect some of the food prepared.
Puglia Perfect management group was extremely responsive when the oven was found to need repair on our arrival and when the electricity went out. Also for arranging our olive oil tour and cooking class with Lucrezia; we all found these informative and delicious.
A little more instruction in the house information manual on how to use the thermostat to control the radiator heating would have been helpful (after the all day power outage it seemed the radiators were heating up during the day when not needed but not coming on at night which we wanted the 2nd week as the temperatures got cooler at night; also the pool lights were on in the day and not at night; this may have had something to do with the power outage affecting a timer?). This was one time Puglia Perfect was unable to help us figure this out.
All in all we found Casa Castagno a great place for our group of 9 family & friends to enjoy each others' company, create great meals, take the cooking class arranged through Perfect Puglia and see the areas sights. A once in a lifetime dream come true for us.

Wonderful Trulli

House well equipped to self cater.

Beautiful house
We had a wonderful time here, the house and pool are really lovely . What isn’t obvious from the photos is how peaceful it is, there are only a few properties nearby and no noise. The night sky is beautiful as there is no light pollution, total relaxation! The children loved the pool, we couldn’t get them out! The surrounding area is very interesting, some lovely towns close by, we particularly liked Alberobello and Locorotondo, beaches are great too. Perfect Puglia who look after the house are great, any little problem and they attend immediately. Our grandchildren are already asking when we can go back! Highly recommended

Fantastic villa with great amenities
We were 2 families staying in this wonderful property. Pre-visit service from the property was great - we booked pasta lessons and onsite massages, to enhance our holidays. Plenty of room for all of us. Kitchen well-equipped, pool was lovely, great outdoor space for relaxing and eating. The villa was about 15 mins from Alberobello. Would love to come back and explore more of this area.

Rural Bliss
A beautiful, very well equipped Trulli with a larger than average pool. Just returned from a wonderful week of good weather, delicious food and amazing sights. The Trulli was a super place to stay for all three generations of our family. I would highly recommend a booking.

Perfect for extended family holiday with young children
An excellent place for a memorable extended family holiday. The generous sized pool is perfect for families. The gate between the main terrace and the pool area makes it a very safe location for families with young children. The wide steps and shallow end are ideal for young nervous children to just touch to bottom when necessary, the 12m length being good for adult exercise as well. The salt-water, rather than chlorine was kind on the children’s eyes. The buildings were cool during the unseasonably hot days and there was shade outside where we needed it. The countryside location is very peaceful and pretty. Alberobello, Martina Franca and Locorotundo are within easy reach to explore. A trip to the beach was also a very enjoyable day out. The UK owner is very attentive to email for any queries and the local management company is on hand and helpful in resolving any practical issues that may arise.

Lovely rural location
Beautiful location in the countryside but within a few minutes drive of Alberobello and Martina Franca. Add 15 or 20 minutes and you reach most other towns and attractions. The villa is spacious and well furnished. We were 5 couples and sitting round the large kitchen table for lunch or dinner was great fun.

Dream holiday home!
We stayed in June with another couple. The weather was sunny, hot and thunderstormy!
The house is a very well equipped holiday home. If you want to self cater the kitchen has everything you will need. Do go up the road to the farm to buy local cheese and vegetables. Also, a must is to go to the Cooperative to buy local wine in plastic 5 litre oil bottles. You can even have fun trying the wines first. They are very good and dirt cheap. We found two supermarkets but Conad was the best.
We slept extremely well in comfy beds and it was so quiet in the middle of the countryside waking up to the smell of jasmine outside our bedroom door.
The pool was welcoming when we returned from a hot day of sight seeing and shopping in the local markets. Plenty big enough and with lots of shade if you find the sun too over powering.
WiFi is brilliant throughout the whole of the house. So you can keep in touch with your friends and family and post your holiday photos!.

Fantastic Experience
A fantastic and seamless holiday experience for our family group of 11 - adults and young kids. Met en route by our hosts and followed them by car to the villa. Too easy. Nice welcome pack and excellent guest book with knowledgeable and spot on local tips - from restaurants and wine co-ops to sights and attractions. Spent our time day tripping then relaxing back at the villa in the afternoon / evening . Great pool kitchen barbecue. It’s hot in Puglia in summer but the trullo keeps the temperature down. We barely used the Ac. All up, great family holiday destination

Beautiful house in a lovely rural location but close enough to all the sights. Perfect for families
We had a really wonderful time here. The house is big and beautiful with huge grounds and a large gated pool (which we tried out several times, despite it not being the weather for it!). Our group was made up of two families, withsix children aged between 11 and 2, and the space worked incredibly well for us (the barn and the main house are attached but operate as separate buildings). The house is very well equipped, Jeremy (the owner) is very responsive, and the team there is incredibly helpful if you have any issues.
The rural location makes you feel like you’re in a very special spot, away from it all - but then you can get everything you need within 10 minutes’ drive. Plus there’s an incredibly friendly dairy farm just 600m away, where you can buy the most delicious cheeses and they might even give you a tour.
All in all, a beautiful house in a beautiful spot, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Thoroughly suitable property for a leisurely family party.
Our party of eleven enjoyed the spacious facilities of the swimming pool, the kitchen and the terrace. The bedrooms an ensuite facilities were good but that showers were a bit of a disappointment due to a lack of water pressure. The living room is rather small for the size of party, but the weather was very kind to us, so we had virtually no reason to use the living room during our enjoyable stay. During the course of the fortnight we did have problems with wasps around the swimming pool, but I don't suppose anything can be done about that!

Lovely Trulli in the heart of the countryside
We are just back from spending a fantastic two weeks in Puglia at this lovely villa. We were very grateful that the villa benefits from air conditioning as we were there during the recent heatwave, the Italians named it 'Lucifer'.
We were a big family group of 9 which included Grandma and there was plenty of space for everyone to chill out. We ended up having lunch inside as it too hot to sit outside and the kitchen was large enough for us to all be in there without getting on top of each other.
The swimming pool was a big attraction and certainly provided hours of entertainment for the kids, young and old.
The recommendations for the local restaurants were good and found the locals very friendly and helpful. Although not mentioned much we took a couple of trips to Monopoli and found some great restaurants as well as a church with mummified bodies!!!!
I would like to say we were impressed with the contact Jeremy had with us right from the initial enquiry through to making sure everything was ok when we came back. The meet and greet that is provided is a fantastic extra as we arrived on a late flight so it was dark by the time we arrived. Whilst we were there a couple of things required some attention and there was excellent prompt service including fixing a broken air conditioning unit.
Great area, great food and not too touristy. Will definitely be back but probably when it isn't quite so hot.
Only complaint that there are no oven gloves in the kitchen which made it a bit difficult getting things in and out of the oven.

Perfect Base for our Puglia Holiday
We absolutely loved our time at Jeremy's house. This was our first time in Puglia and this inviting home served as the perfect home-base for exploring the area. The home is beautifully decorated with light, bright neutrals and it is super cool to be staying in actual trulli given their heritage in the area. the kitchen is enormous! we loved the giant white table where we gathered each morning for coffee and breakfast. The five bedrooms are all very comfortable with powerful AC units -- this was essential as we were there during a record breaking July heat wave. The pool is perfection, really beautiful and inviting. We spent most of our evenings outside at the outdoor table...the outdoor area is beautifully finished and well lit. The house is just a few minutes outside of Alberobello so it was easy to take trash, replenish groceries, get gas, find ATMs, etc. but once we were at the house, we felt as if we were removed in the quiet countryside. Jeremy engages a property manager in town to help with check-in and various services. They were fantastic. we had wine and groceries waiting for us upon arrival which was a big help. And when dinner plans fell through one evening they scrambled last minute to help us find takeout pizza. We had a rental car so each day we would venture someplace new: Alberobello, Polignano a Mare, Martina Franca for the weekly market, the beach, Lecce. We absolutely fell in love with Puglia and returning to this beautiful home each evening made it a true vacation. Some logistical notes: there are two bedrooms in the main house which share a large bathroom. There are three bedrooms in the "barn" each of which have their own bathroom. The 5th bathroom is out by the pool and driveway and we didn't even use/need it. The kitchen has everything you need to cook as well as dishwasher and washing machine, and drying racks for doing laundry. there are beach towels for the pool and to take to the beach. The property manager helped us schedule a mid-week house cleaning and linen change. Jeremy was a fantastic host, all communications were timely and informative. The house is gorgeous, inviting and very functional. Strongly recommend!!

Wonderful property!
The villa was stunning! Exactly as described and pictured on the website. The property was peaceful and relaxing, spacious enough to accommodate our two families of 9. We often walked just few minutes to La Stalla, the local farm, to get fresh eggs and daily made cheeses. Highly recommend the burrata! The location was perfect to explore the many beautiful places in the area. We spent a day at the beach in Monopoly, visited Locorotondo and the the near Alberobello almost daily for our grocery shopping. Go to any of the winery to get amazing local wine for few euros! We went on a boat tour to explore the coast and swam in the Grotte! The owner Jeremy and his agent were so attentive. Even when the fridge in the pool house didn't work , he replaced it the very next day! It was a fantastic holiday! The pool was perfect, even for night swims and with plenty of loungers. The only complaint is that one week is not enough!! There is still so much to do.We must come back!

Amazing Villa - Relaxation Personified
The villa was everything we could have imagined, luxurious, peaceful and a small piece of paradise in a beautiful part of Italy.
If you want a small slice of paradise in the Italian countryside then this is your place. The weather was amazing, the surrounding landscape was breath-taking and the people were so friendly and helpful.
Jeremy (the owner) could not have been more helpful, providing me with restaurants, attractions and general assistance all through the booking experience. Whilst we were there we often made a trip up to the local farm (5 minutes walk) where we would get fresh cheese and eggs and also be greeted by the friendly dogs.
Francesco was our local guide on the Segway tour of the town which I can thoroughly recommend, he showed us areas of the town you wouldn’t think to explore and took us inside his personal Trullo to see how people used to live back in the day.
We had a day at the beach which was remarkably well organised into small areas with your own lounger, umbrella and also well stocked bars and eateries.
The pool at the villa was just perfect, we had lots of fun splashing around, drinking and relaxing on a daily basis and even developed a new hybrid version of volleyball called water chutney, there are exclusive rules written in one of the guest books!
We cant wait to come back again, as even though the area appears quite remote there are so many things still to do and explore which will require us to come back. My only piece of advice would be to choose Bari airport over Brindisi at the moment due to the construction work going on at present, the airport is over worked and slow, we spent nearly 2 hours queuing up outside the plane trying to get into the terminal and through passport control which was quite uncomfortable in the blazing sun with no water to keep us hydrated.

Beautiful Trullo in a Lovely Countryside Location
This was a lovely Trullo very much as described with great views over the gorgeous Puglian landscapes.
It was near enough to Alberobello for us to stock up on our shopping on a daily basis, which we needed to do as there were so many in our party, but far enough away for us to feel chilled and relaxed in our surroundings.
There is so much to do in the surrounding area but if you wanted to kick back and just watch the wildlife it was the perfect location. We had a lot of nature lovers in our party and we saw some quite exotic birds and best of all a wildcat which came to visit the neighbouring field which had just been cut for hay. From our point of view it was pure gold!
The Casa is very clean, well equipped and Jeremy and his agent Abbie were very helpful. For example in helping us to arrange a taxi to take us to my niece's wedding.
We had an amazing lunch at the Gli Ulivi restaurant in Alberobello which was recommended in the book at the Casa. Really authentic Italian with amazing food and it didn't break the bank either.
All in all a great holiday.

Lovely villa and pool in a relaxing and peaceful location
We had a lovely 2-week stay in this very clean and well equipped villa with its fabulous pool. The location is very rural and peaceful but it is only just over 10 minutes to drive Alberobello. The owners and local agents were very helpful and answered all our queries promptly. There was an excellent recommendations book in the villa with useful information. We would recommend the Segway tours with Francesco and wine from the local co-operative. Overall, we would thoroughly recommend this villa for a large group of people.

Fabulous home in area with fantastic food and wine
9 of us have just returned from a wonderful holiday in Puglia. The house was very well appointed with everything you could need to have a fabulous relaxing break. Particularly enjoyed the lavender and jasmine scents every morning and evening that surround the house. Plenty to do in the surrounding area particularly if you love good food and wine (which we do!!). Thank you for a wonderful holiday.
