About this chalet rental
Chalet Bergheim is a magical, private, ski-in/ski-out mountain chalet, built in 1933 in traditional walliser style wooden construction. Renovated in 2014, the chalet is furnished with bespoke, hand made furniture and natural materials but with all of the features you would expect in a modern mountain chalet including free wi-fi throughout, a whirlpool bath and open log fire. The chalet is completely surrounded by nature with virtually no neighbours in sight, and you don't have to share the property with anyone! Outside there is a large private garden and terrace, with a beautiful natural 8 person cedar hottub, fire pit and bbq facilities, perfect for soaking up the sunshine. The chalet is sold on a self-catering basis but a catering service or fresh food delivery may be available on request.
One of the only free-standing chalets in Zermatt, the chalet sleeps 6 adults comfortably in 3 double bedrooms with 2 bathrooms (one with separate whirlpool room overlooking Matterhorn). With additional beds the maximum occupancy is 9 (max 7 adults, 1 children and 1 baby).
Nestled in the tree line at 1750m and overlooking the rooftops of Zermatt, the chalet is directly on the Sunegga ski-piste giving access to the 450 kilometers of pistes offered by the best known resort in Switzerland. Ski hard all day, grab a glass of wine and sit in front of the open fire or enjoy the evening sunshine on the terrace taking in the majestic views of the Matterhorn, that for us is the perfect day.
Or in the Summer, take the mountain bike up to a mountain lake for a swim, hit some single trail on the way down, go for a hike in the woods and then end the day with sausages on the bbq and a drink or two around a camp fire in the fire pit.
If like us, you are in love with the mountains and you value stunning natural surroundings, your own space, and a host of amazing adventures on your doorstep then you will fall in love with this place.

LOCATION
The chalet is in a stunning location above the village of Zermatt with dramatic views of the majestic Matterhorn. Far enough away to feel remote but close enough to access the many amenities Zermatt has to offer.
- Direct on the ski-piste from Sunegga
- 20-25min uphill walk from the centre of Zermatt
- Nearby restaurants within a short walk from the house
- Surrounded by nature with very few neighbours
- 400m from the nearest road access point in Winter (access by cleared footpath). Direct access to chalet by taxi in summer.
- Hike and MTB direct from the front door in the summer
- South facing for afternoon/evening sunshine
Zermatt is a car-free village and hence access by private car to the property is not possible.
IMPORTANT IN WINTER: In winter it's only possible to access the property to within 400m by taxi, and after that you must go by foot on a prepared winter trail (direct access by taxi possible in summer). From the town to the chalet it is a 20-25min walk uphill. There is however an elevator during lift opening hours which reduces the amount of uphill and walking time! From the ski piste to the chalet there are steps. Prior to guest arrival we clear the steps of snow and lay grit. However, should there be snowfall then snow clearance may be required during your stay. Should there be insufficient snow on the piste next to the house, it is 400m walk to a snow-sure piste. In winter free luggage transfer is available Saturdays 10am until 4pm unless very poor weather conditions. You therefore must plan to be in Zermatt before 3:15pm at the latest on arrival day!

Family of 5 travelling from the USA. Everything about Chalet Bergheim was perfect. The host is very responsive and accommodating. The Chalet is in excellent condition and in a beautiful location with excellent views. It has a very tasteful blend of modern amenities with the charm of a traditional Swiss Chalet. We thoroughly enjoyed the hot tub, and we loved the escape from the business of Zermatt which is just a short hike away. I cannot wait to visit again and again.

I can't think of a better home or location. The house is dripping with Swiss charm and the view of the Matterhorn towering over the town of Zermatt is breathtaking. We hope to return to this location.

While I have rented many properties over my life, seldom has a location so exceeded my expectations as did Chalet Bergheim over the course of the two weeks we spent there.
The property was exceedingly quiet, but located just 15 minutes by foot from downtown Zermatt. There can be no better view of the Matterhorn from all the valley than that afforded by the deck at the front to the Chalet. The hot tub and the wood burning stove were excellent amenities and there is simply not a room in the chalet that does not have a breathtaking view of either the Matterhorn and associated peaks to the south or all the way to the Nesthorn in the north, across the Rhone.
We had breakfast and Dinner every day on the Deck and spent the mornings and afternoons hiking the myriad trails into the surrounding high country. Simply stunning. We will certainly be back.

Chalet Bergheim is really a beautiful treat for any family who wants to relax surrounded by the most picturesque mountain-range one can imagine. Everything has been perfectly organized, we have really enjoyed our stay and definitely intend to come back.

We absolutely loved our stay here! The views were amazing! We would hike during the day and come back to a relaxing hot tub! The whole Chalet was very clean and the heated floors were great addition! William was very quick to respond to our questions! We were already talking about when we should come back before we even left! Amazing place to stay!

Great Views
We had a lovely stay at Chalet Bergheim. Everything is listed in the PDF that Will provides upon booking, including the cost of taxis to get to the Chalet and the time to walk to town. While this is a ways above the town, during our summer trip the walk was only approximately 20 minutes to the locations we were interested in but we almost exclusively took taxis back. The actual property is just as wonderful and cozy as the pictures detail. Even in the summer, we enjoyed an evening rain storm with the balcony doors open overlooking the town.

Amazing Experience and Unforgettable View!
Will’s home was simply amazing. It had arguably the best view of the Matterhorn I’ve ever seen and the hot tub was the perfect place to enjoy it. The house was well equipped with everything we needed to make our stay comfortable. There was plenty of room to fit all my friends and all of our gear. The gear / ski storage room downstairs was an awesome plus. Highly recommended for groups!!

An Amazing stay in Zermatt.
The property was fantastic, we had a great family get away for a week. Great hiking and actually RELAXED at the house. Can not say one way to improve it at all.
Will was great at getting back right away if we had any questions, and we felt at home. The house is so well equipped, we could not find anything else it needed.
20 years prior, and no kids, we stayed at a hotel in Zermatt, this was by far a better way to go. About a 15 - 20 min walk to city center, but well worth the additional steps to have the extra privacy and quiet.
Our boys are 18 and 14 and they absolutely loved the house and everything about where we stayed. Very good wifi connectivity - incredibly important with kids.
If you are going to Zermatt, and don't mind a bit of extra walking to ensure some privacy, stay here. You will be happy you did. The view from the master bedroom is phenomenal!!!!

A magical stay at Chalet Bergheim
Our trip was absolutely wonderful. The chalet is everything we could have hoped for. Epic views of Zermatt and the Matterhorn, a beautiful, cozy, and clean home, peace and solitude from the town (but still very accessible), ski in ski out, a hot tub that’s actually hot. I could keep going on and on.
Will & Amanda were excellent hosts and had open communication with us if we ever needed anything.
I wouldn’t look anywhere else to stay for my next trip to Zermatt. This is it!

Superb!
It just doesn't get any better. The chalet is comfortable and has the kind of cozy feeling that makes you want to stay home. Close enough to town for activities and shopping. Far enough from town to feel like you're secluded. Incredible view of the ridge from Monte Rosa to the Matterhorn. We shall return!

Fabulous Property at excellent location
This was one of the best property i have been to in last 10 years. Everything was picture perfect. Location was awesome with a great view of Matterhorn, isolated to have your private time but close enough to the town. Chalet was equipped with all modern amenities like hot water tub, Jacuzzi, apple TV, barbecue eqp, fully equipped kitchen. Will has been a great host who responded to our requirements promptly. His personal touch on kids bedroom is highly liked by kids. There is lot to do for kids be it playing with snow, in the garden or watching wild life occasionally across the window. Overall a fabulous holiday and i would love to come back again.

An absolutely exquisite experience in a breathtaking location.
My family and I (wife, 3 children) are in the middle of a year long global travelling adventure, and chose to spend 3 weeks at Chalet Bergheim. Our goals were simple: to ski as much as humanly possible, and to feel at home after being on the road for so long. Well, mission accomplished! The gods were surely looking down upon us as it started dumping snow as we pulled into the Zermatt train station. Our entry into the Chalet was seamless, with a heli- drop for our crazy amount of luggage, and in the comfort of a warm home on our first night, we looked out the living room window to the Matterhorn. Pictures can’t really capture the beauty of it all, but this chalet is certainly as advertised. It truly is a ski-in-ski-out scenario, and apart from daily groceries (which you can have pre-stocked), you are more or less self-sufficient.
The kids loved skiing down the piste to the chalet at the end of each day, throwing their ski boots on the warmers in the mud-room, sitting in the hot tub, and watching movies on the living room TV late into the night. The kitchen was well equipped for my wife and I to cook breakfast and most dinners...not too much else to say except this place was a gem for us. One last thing, the owner Will was about as responsive and helpful as it gets. Hope this review helps you and you enjoy too!
Also, for your rental needs, I would recommend Bayard at the bottom of Sunnegga (you can store overnight in case you’re not the ski-in-out type), COOP for groceries, and Summit ski school for some of the friendliest staff and best instructors around ;-)

Perfect hideaway. Wonderful home. Perfect for our family of 6.
Beautiful traditional chalet. Unparralled in charm. You are on the edge of Zermatt but a world away. Truly a hidden gem. The private garden, hot tub and outdoor patio are all wonderful accents. You are virtually in the country but close to a city with over 100 restaurants. There is a walk from the elevator that is about 1/4 of a mile but it can be easliy navigated. We would take a taxi home after dinner in the city. If you want the benefits of a city but the charm of living in a Swiss country home this is perfect.

Fantastic!!
This is a GEM of a place. We were super thrilled with the chalet, the amenities and the location. It completely fulfilled the dream of staying in a Swiss Mountain Chalet. The town of Zermatt is incredible and it was so nice to get away from all the hustle and bustle of town and retreat to this wonderful, quiet little chalet overlooking town. The views of the valley and Matterhorn are incredible! Will was very great to work with and was very accommodating. I would love to go back and visit again.

Best View Ever!!
I rent a lot of properties all over the world and this one is near the top of the list. It is not your stereotypical Zermatt place to stay down in town, but the little extra effort to get to Chalet Bergheim is worth it! My family loved it and our little kids were sad to leave the slide. Truly a wonderful home and though the front side view to the Matterhorn is rediculous, the view out the back kitchen sink window is not far from remarkable itself. Don’t mind washing dishes there. Will was wonderful on all communications and is helpful with planning appropriate family activities. Can’t say enough about how much we loved staying at this home for 5 nights. Absolutely wonderful!!

Fantastic place !
Chalet Bergheim was a great place for our family for a summer holiday week in Zermatt ! We loved the location, a bit outside the village with an easy walk to get there. Great base camp to hike all around Zermatt. And the chalet was very well-equipped. We´d love to come back !

Absolutely perfect getaway!
The Chalet Bergheim is perfectly appointed, quiet and very comfortable. We loved the hot tub, the fireplace, and the heated floors, along with the very comfortable beds and couches! We slept better at the Chalet than we do in our own bed at home. Everything you may need is provided, down to the last detail. The walk into town, or just hiking around the mountainside, is beautiful and not difficult at all. Will and Amanda were very prompt in answering any questions, and were wonderful to work with. We even had a special show put on by the amazing Air Zermatt helicopters that we enjoyed watching right off the balcony! Our stay was a once in a lifetime experience and we highly recommend Chalet Bergheim for anyone looking for the perfect Swiss retreat!

This rental will be tough to top...
We were enchanted with the photos of the chalet posted online when we first placed our reservation several months in advance, and it did not disappoint. During our two-week stay in Zermatt, we spent several hours each day out and about, hiking in the mountains and exploring the town, and it was always so pleasant to return to such a cozy, inviting place each evening.
The chalet was very well appointed, with plenty of cooking supplies and table/drink ware. We cooked meals in the chalet most nights and never found ourselves lacking anything we needed. The hot tub was delightful (as was the courtyard area in general) and was pretty much a nightly ritual for us. The view of the town and Matterhorn is simply spectacular.
Regarding the access, we found the walks up to the chalet to be a nice little workout each day. Even those days when we missed the lift, taking the trail was just a little more effort, and the seclusion of the place more than makes up for the extra work it takes to reach it. We didn't mind it a bit.
Overall, we could not have been more pleased with our accommodations. When we come back to Zermatt, we absolutely would not hesitate to reserve the Chalet Bergheim again!

A special place
We stayed at this beautiful chalet for a week with young friends and their new baby. We thought it was perfect. The chalet is located above Zermatt with an unbelievable view of the Matterhorn. From the balconies we could hear the goats moving across the valley floor-a lovely tinkling of bells-and the chiming of church bells. The fact that cars are not permitted in Zermatt meant that the chalet felt as if we were in a very remote place. In fact a short walk downhill to the elevator opposite Cervo Hotel put us into Zermatt with only a short walk to restaurants and shopping and trains. The location was perfect and so was the house. We found it fully equipped (there was even a crib) and so much attention was given to the comfort of guests that the only thing we could find missing was a night light in the bathrooms. That was it! The beds were comfortable, the linens were nice, and the kitchen had everything. We only used the cedar hot tub a couple of times but wish we had used it more. We went off adventuring every day but came back to the chalet wondering why we had ever left. The view and the house were THAT good!!
Tips for anyone lucky enough to come here: Be sure to stock up on groceries at the Coop across from the train station before hiring an electric taxi to carry you, luggage, food, and drink up to the chalet. Trips for small things are easily made using the elevator.
Also be sure to stop at Cervo for a drink on the terrace. This is a fashionable place with a welcoming staff. Last tip: Be sure to not stop for a snack at Tufternalp in a meadow above the house though I do recommend reading the reviews on Trip Advisor for amusement. One reviewer said they stopped there is see if the staff were as bad as all that. The answer is yes! Go to Cervo instead or back to the chalet.

We had a perfect stay at Chalet Bergheim.
The real mountain chalet experience, around 20 minutes walking outside of busy Zermatt.

An absolute gem of a property in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
We had a most memorable summer visit to beautiful Zermatt and loved staying in Will and Amanda's Chalet Bergheim. The home was perfect in design, location, amenities and the host was very helpful. The views from this home are fantastic. You can view the Matterhorn from the dining room/living room and balcony along with the town of Zermatt below. You can hear church bells ringing, the nearby waterfalls, and the sheep with the bells they are wearing. We had read about Zermatt how touristy it is and that there are many other better places in Switzerland. I can only say that from our experience that after having been in many beautiful places throughout the world that Zermatt Switzerland is one of the nicest places we have ever visited and when we return (and we will) we would most defiantly stay at Chalet Bergheim. The property was very clean, had great kitchen small and large appliances, an incredibly beautiful master bathroom, very comfortable beds, and a spacious living room with smart tv. The hiking in Zermatt was fantastic and we enjoyed stopping a the many wonderful restaurants we discovered long our hiking routes. The location of the home was perfect - a 20 minute beautiful walk into town. We loved to be removed from the downtown area which had many wonderful shops and restaurants along with many visitors. We bought our groceries after our hikes at both Coop and Migros which had everything we needed and we put our groceries in our backpacks and enjoyed our walk back to our home - Chalet Bergheim. It truly felt like coming home after a wonderful day of hiking. We loved Chalet Bergheim and Zermatt and will be back. Thank you Will for one the most memorable weeks!
