This really is a wonderful place to spend a holiday with friends and family. Spacious, clean and comfortable. We had a great time!
The road up is very steep so have a good car. And the time of year meant that there were a lot of wasps about which was a bit of a downside.
The recommendations to eat in town one evening at a lovely restaurant and to walk the Caminito del Rey were spot on - both were memorable experiences and we would recommend them both too.
I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending staying here and those spectacular views will live long in the memory.

We celebrated 2 x 50th birthday with friends and family and really enjoyed this amazing house. We had enough space for everyone, especially the fact that each room has its own badroom.
The view is undescribable - great pool and a well-equipped kitchen.
Thank you to Diego and the team for supporting us with the few struggles we had. The Air condition was unfortunately not working the first 5 days, but the team was working on solving the problem and finally end of week solved what was broken. Thank you very much for this.

We stayed at La Era with 15 people for our annual office retreat and we couldn't have picked a nicer venue for this! The villa is a former hotel, which offers a lot of space and the most amazing views!
Even before our arrival we were very well instructed by Juan, who also gave us lots of tips on what to do during our stay (visiting the Caminito del Rey was definitely the best advice!), where to go grocery shopping and even where to find the best offer for rental cars. When we arrived we were kindly greeted by Mariano, who showed as around and explained everything we needed to know.
The villa is very well taken care of: Tidy, clean and has an extremely well equipped kitchen, where we enjoyed cooking for the entire team on a daily basis. The garden and the whole area around the house are also in great shape! We also enjoyed the pool a lot, which wasn’t heated, but it was great to cool ourselves off even with „only“ 21-25° outside.
In the beginning we had a problem with the hot water, but it could soon be fixed by the kind support of Diego, the gardener. Any sort of questions or requests were answered in no time and all of our requirements were met to our satisfaction.
We were quite surprised how steep the roads were that lead up to the house. Because of heavy rain during the some days prior to our stay there was also a lot of loose gravel. The first time we drove up there people had to get out of the car to push it up. But once we knew what wer were in for, we were better prepared and all the following times driving up to the house we had no problems at all :) In the end it was all paid off with the exceptional views anyways :)
Since we were there for an office retreat, we spent most of the time at the house to hold workshops and such. The big dining area and also the outside area with its parasols were just perfect for that matter. But the house offers also lots of opportunities to withdraw from the group and find cosy places to relax (inside and outside). The wifi could have been a bit better at times for our purposes, since we also came there to work. But I also understand that this is rather a place for relaxation and enjoying a vacation offline.
All in all we had a great stay and felt very comfortable. It was definitely hard to leave this place after a week.
Big thanks again to the entire team that is running the place and its surroundings!
We would gladly come back any time!
Kind regards,
Sarah

Fabulous. Amazing views. Villa clean and spacious. Good sized pool. Owner very helpful. Loved it.
Stayed with a family of 13. Ages 1 to 79. Villa well equipped spacious and clean, views are mesmerising, Lots of large communal areas for family gathering together but also lots of hideaway places for peace and quiet,
The pool is definitely big enough - we had lots of fun - large enough for 13 plus lots of blow ups!
The drive up is steep but absolutely doable and not as scary as some of the reviews.
Loved sitting on the large veranda overlooking the village drinking morning coffee and evening glass of wine.
Highly recommend for large groups of friends and family,
WiFi - not great - but you can get 4G

Outstanding villa with wonderful vista and an experience worth repeating.
A spacious and very well appointed villa with an excellent kitchen and a significantly pleasing view.
Owners were extremely helpful & quickly responded to any queries.
Directions to the villa were crystal clear and accurate.
Beware of possible extra charges for use of A/C which we expect any villa hire to include when advertised as a facility.
Nevertheless, an outstanding villa more than worth a visit, and one of the few that I would like to revisit.

Wonderful Property; Great View of Casarabonela
Stayed with friends for two weeks. Property is in excellent condition; owner helpful, easy to deal with and responsive to our every need prior to and during our stay. Great views of the small town; excellent location outside the hustle and bustle of larger urban centers; yet, close enough to enjoy Malaga. Great propert and excellent value!

Paradise house!
Stunning former hotel perched on an Andalusian hilltop. Mindblowing views on all sides. The decor tasteful, the rooms all gorgeous (en suite and with views), an incredible kitchen and veranda to eat breakfast looking at the jaw dropping landscape. Lovely pool area, and table tennis a nice addition. Frank was super communicative and very kind. We went with the whole extended family for a week and couldn't have asked for anything more. Paradise!

Wonderful villa for family and friends!
The villa is wonderful! We had a group of 18 people - 10 adults, 6 children and 2 babies - with plenty of room to move about and not get on top of one another. The en-suite bathrooms also made a huge difference with so many people in the group. The large dining room provided ample space for the kids to eat dinner whilst the adults enjoyed eating late-night dinners on the terrace with a fantastic view overlooking Casarabonela and the valley below. The professional kitchen also made cooking a real enjoyment. An issue with the dishwasher when we first arrived (it had broken down) was fixed as quickly as possible by the very helpful and hospitable owners and our full deposit was returned despite a couple of minor breakages (which, whilst unavoidable and due to wear-and-tear, may well have been charged by other owners). Highly recommend this property to anyone looking for somewhere that is family-friendly, somewhere to unwind and somewhere with beautiful views.

Excellent house but access difficult
The house itself cannot be faulted - clean, spacious and well equipped. It is a former hotel now rented out as a villa (La Era). The views across the mountains and Casarabonela are amazing. However, the road leading up to the property is part dirt track, and in sections so steep that our hire cars struggled. It means that it is neither possible to walk into the village (in theory the distance can be covered on foot but I wouldn't have wanted to meet a car as a pedestrian), nor would we have liked to have driven up to the property in the dark. The house is in a beautiful area, but there are no attractions nearby - everything is at least an hours' drive on small windy roads. The pool is nice, but a little small for the number of occupants the house can take.

Casarabonela Villa
Our family [6 adults and 6 children] have just returned from a wonderful 2 week holiday [Aug 2016] staying at this superb villa. It is situated in the mountains near the picturesque village of Casarabonela. The views from all the bedrooms are spectacular and the interior of the villa is most tastefully decorated and immaculately clean. Each bedroom has its own en suite bathroom and some have balconies over looking the beautiful countryside. The kitchen is equipped to the highest standard as the villa used to be used as a hotel. I would strongly recommend this venue to anyone wanting to have a peaceful holiday in Southern Spain with Malaga and Marbella only about 45 minutes drive away. Martin McNeill

"A Gem in the Mountains of Malaga"
We rented this oasis in the mountains of Malaga, this past June. The amenities were top notch and the villa was so comfortable to stay at. This property use to be a hotel, so all the rooms have the same amenities (i.e. en suite bathroom, plenty of closet space w/hangers, safes in every room, fans, air conditioning, etc.). The property has an amazing view of Casarabonela township, along with a view of other villages. There is plenty of parking space, a nice pool that can cool you down on a hot summer day, a charming courtyard on side of the house and a beautiful covered patio on the other. Most of the rooms have private balconies, that you can sit out on. There is a fantastic gourmet kitchen, laundry room, huge dining room, beautiful living room, foyer, etc. etc. etc. The owner, Frank and his lovely wife, Isabelle, were a god-sent, as they were so accommodating and helpful before and during our stay. The process to book this villa was easy and convenient. Frank can arrange catering and a wonderful band for your stay, if you so choose. I would recommend a few things:
1. Try to get there during daylight, because the roads are not well signed and it's easy to miss the markers.
2. Be okay with driving through hilly roads, some of which is unpaved.
3. Plan to have groceries for your first night there, as the village grocery store, closes early and there really isn't a 2nd option.
The house has free Wi-Fi that is at a fairly good speed. Bring your cameras, because you will want to take a 1000 pictures from the house, the village and the walking trail on the property of the house.
Overall, we had a very memorable trip. We were able to relax and disengage from the hustle and bustle of our every day lives and Frank and Isabelle catered to our needs, whenever we called on them. Andy, their son, was also quite helpful and made all the pre-reservation activities smooth. We are grateful to the Nuevespigas family.

This is a beautiful, amazing villa that is both updated and classic, situated on the highest hill in the Casarabonela area. It is surrounded by the most beautiful grounds, both natural and cultivated, a lovely pool and private walking paths, and with an absolutely perfect view of the lovely white hill town Casarabonela! We spent most of our time on the patio watching the light change as the days rolled on. More than simply clean and hospitable, the villa is elegant, spacious, and private. Our hosts were as lovely as the villa, both attentive to our needs and trusting us to ourselves for the week. Long after the trip, our group could not stop talking about how amazing, sweet, and restorative our week there had been. We unanimously give this villa and it's owners the highest recommendation, without a hint of reservation! If only we could return there now for another enchanting week, or month, or more!

A taste of heaven!
As excited as I was about staying at Nuevespigas from the pictures and description on the website, I was unprepared for how extraordinarily beautiful and enjoyable it would be. The entire house is exquisitely and tastefully furnished and decorated. The livingroom is especially beautiful, and yet we spent very little time there because the patio with it's magnificent view became our permanent spot for dining, reading, conversing. Some of our group of 11 were skeptical when I proposed Nuesvespigas as the place to stay during our first week in Andalusia; they thought it was too remote and there would be little to do and few places to dine out; by the end of the week no one wanted to leave. Frank and Isabel could not have been more helpful and accommodating. They even helped provide special baking equipment my friend needed to bake a cake for my surprise birthday party. And they opened the pool two weeks early so that we were able to use it. The kitchen is amazingly well furnished with cookware, utensils, and dishes. Casarabonela is a treasure of a town with lovely winding streets to explore (best on foot--easy to get trapped on one way narrow streets if you take a wrong turn). La Parada, recommended by Isabel, provided some of the best dining experiences of our entire vacation--not only because of the great food, but the experience of interacting with the friendly and exuberant owner and his wife. I'm recommending this property to every friend I talk to. Oh....yes, the drive up to Nuevespigas does take some getting used to, but sooooo very worth the effort.

What a fabulous place to holiday
We were a group of 14 adults and teenagers who all thoroughly enjoyed staying here in August 2015. The house is excellent in every way, set in a beautiful location of undulating hills above the lovely white village of Casarabonela.
Frank met us on arrival and explained all we needed to know. He had very kindly bought a few requested items to keep us going for the first full day (Sunday) when the shops are closed, which we reimbursed him for on arrival.
He also came out very promptly on the Sunday morning at our request to help sort the internet - wish we'd spotted where the router was so we could have saved him a journey!
The house is very well presented, clean and tidy with a huge amount of space everywhere - we didn't use every room as we spent most of the time outside, but we tried very hard!
The pool isn't huge, but that didn't matter and we managed plenty of ball games with most of us in together. Our table tennis tournament didn't get finished so we may have to come back next year to see who the winner will be!

Stunning
As a family and party of 13 we wanted a large, peaceful and quality villa to enjoy a weeks holiday with hopefully great views.....the villa had the lot and more.
Frank was always available to contact also which with 6 young children in the party should anything have happened I am sure would have been no problem.
We will be returning, highly recommend.

Blissful Villa with beautiful views
I found this place on-line whilst cold and miserable in January looking to book something that would brighten up my summer. This place did not disappoint. Nestled on it's own hill top with no one else around, almost every window provided epic views of the surrounding countryside. The swimming pool is clean and a welcome relief when it get's really hot, the kitchen is well equipped to feed as many people as it holds. As well as a swimming pool, table tennis table, and stargazing rocky outcrop you would always find a new place from which to watch the sunset. Frank was great and as well as a thorough tour, a detailed instruction manual was left. We were there for a week and managed a trip to both Ronda and Grenada, both of which are easily accessible. In short, I'll definitely be booking this place again, and I would recommend others to as well.

Beautiful hill top villa with incredible views.
We were traveling with 2 large families. The villa was perfect! Everyone have plenty of room and there were great spaces for everyone to eat, cook and play games. We did several day trips one to Rhonda and one to Granada. Great location.

Fantastic venue for group or family fun
Nuevespigas was an excellent venue for my family (17 in total ranging from 9 - 58) to gather, relax and have lots of fun. The whole villa exceeded expectations, it was clean, spacious, well equipped, and well laid out to take advantage of the spectacular views across the valley and catch the evening breezes. With lots of nooks and crannies there were plenty of places to get away, or to congregate en masse. The pool is great - see if you can make a whirlpool! We enjoyed a Moroccan and Spanish meal cooked in the kitchen and eaten together in the large dining area. Isabel, Frank and Andy were great in helping to sort out any problems that arose. The steep approach is certainly a challenge, so best with a good engine! There are lots of nice walks from the village, simple local bars, and a trip to El Chorro gorge, Ronda and the beach are all recommended, as is a swim in the lake on the way back from El Chorro.
I have no reservations in recommending this, you can't beat it for a mix of privacy and family or group fun.

Superb Summer in Southern Spain
This past July, my family and I enjoyed a fantastic and memorable two- week vacation at Villa La Era. There were 18 of us in total with an age span ranging from 73 years to four months old, and EVERYONE equally enjoyed themselves. The accommodations were extremely comfortable, the villa itself and the surrounding property were clean and well maintained, and the view was a pleasure to wake up to every morning; But, besides the physical attributes we encountered upon our arrival, the best part of our vacation (and what truly made our experience so special) was the family that runs this little gem in the South of Spain. Isabel and her family all did their part to make our stay at La Era as pleasant as possible. From giving us great advice to help plan our itinerary, to finding us a chef to prepare delectable meals, they went above and beyond to ensure that everyone’s needs were met, and that La Era felt like a home away from home.

Nuevespigas Villa Rural Casarbonela
This used to be an hotel so all the bedrooms had en-suite bathrooms, safe and hairdrier. The kitchen was industrial and fantastic with everything you could wish for. There were plenty of seating areas outside so you could move round with the sun. Nice swimming pool but a little cold in June. There were plenty of board games and books provided. Table tennis was also available. It is on top of a very steep hill and a little isolated although only 10 minutes from Casarbonela with supermarkets and restaurants which were basic. Warning - the supermarkets are closed on both Sunday and Monday so stock up in Malaga before you arrive.
It is a slendid villa for large groups.
