About this farm stay rental
Rotorua Shearers' Retreat (with super-fast Wi-Fi) is a warm and peaceful 2 bedroom farmstay on the owners' farm, converted from the original Shearers' Quarters. Tuis, bellbird and NZ wood pigeons are often seen and heard around the fenced section which provides secure space for children and parking for boat/car .
View sheep and cattle grazing from the kitchen and living areas! Feed the chickens if you wish, and get to know the donkeys, who will welcome you home each day.
Well-insulated and sited for the sun, comfort is assured with a heat pump/airconditioner. The interior space is approx 103 square metres and is topped off with an 18 square metre covered outdoor entertainment area.
The kitchen's oven, stovetop, and microwave offer the comforts of home. A fridge-freezer and good size pantry allow plenty of storage for longer stays. Both the kitchen and lounge open on to a covered sheltered outdoor living area with barbeque in rural surroundings.
From the kitchen, head to the bathroom and separate utility room or into large and spacious open plan dining and lounge area. The 2 bedrooms open off the dining and lounge. The master bedroom has rural views and a super-king / Californian King size bed. The 2nd bedroom has 2 king-single beds and a single trundler bed and a cot are available on request.
The spacious lounge/dining area has French doors opening into a private garden area and also on to the covered outdoor living area. The lounge has 3 large comfy sofas, including a sofa bed.

I was very glad to have booked this accommodation for my family's rainy weekend trip to Rotorua. My 7 year old niece absolutely loved staying here and hanging out with the farm animals, especially the friendly sheep - she couldn't stop talking about them on our drive back to Auckland. The host was lovely too, friendly and accommodating. House was very warm as well. Wifi slowed down every now and then, but wasn't an issue as we weren't there to be on our phones!

Loved the warmth and comfort, quiet surrounds and the animals. Hot water pressure in shower a little low but an absolute minor thing with the positives outweighing this easily

A lovely little home away from home for our family of five. The kids loved the toys, sharing a room, visiting the chooks and sheep, and jumping on the trampoline, and we loved having everything we needed for meals, a bathtub, and enough room.

This is an old type house setting. Bach like. Basic and functional. So quiet and peaceful with sheep, donkeys and hens. Lovely for us all to get away from then fast pace of our lives and go back in time and have a simple holiday. It is close to all the Rotorua tourist attractions and great eating places. So there is the opportunity to be busy or quiet.

We enjoyed our stay. Quiet and spacious. You get what you pay for but everything one needs is there. It was nice for the kids to feed the animals. Fantastic host. Despite a personal emergency, the host still took the time to see us and help us with anything we needed. Recommend and we will be back. Thank you.

A warm winters stay
The retreat is a comfortable, family friendly, and easily warmed, place for a winter stay. The kids loved feeding the chooks and enjoyed the books and blocks etc. The kitchen is well kitted out for cooking your own meals. Celia, thank you for a lovely base for our family holiday.

As tungatuwhena what an embarrassment to New Zealand culture and heritage.
To be told the pull out couch is uncomfortable best just to sleep on the couch should have been the que to not staying there
Cheap warehouse crap quality sheets on the beds, duvet inners and quit covers obviously second hand op shop quality or no longer needed by the main home
The kitchen full of ,anything thing the main farm house or surrounding premises don’t want to use just dumped in this farm stay, no sharp knives to cut your tomatoes let alone your cheese.
The shower should be reviewed by health and safety it’s either so hot you get second degree burns or cold there was no way my children could shower without supervision
I’m disgusted that this farm who clearly use a community services card to use this farm stay as a tax eversion opportunity think that the inability to portray our county to what it is and ascend the message that hospitality is something farmers can’t do
How hard is it to show some bit of hospitality Such as “ we have not been able to sort the out door bath but if you want to give it a go, go ahead” why would I
FFS …… disappointment all way round

Baby moon
I was 7 months pregnant and enjoying a family holiday with my son, brother, niece and nephews. The shearer's retreat was perfect for us! Enough room for 3 kids,1 teen and 2 adults. It was close enough to our activities, and private so we could enjoy our own space.
It had a really homely feel and Celia was an excellent host. Would definitely stay again.

Shearers retreat comments
This property is perfect for a relaxing family getaway. Very peaceful and helpful hosts. The location is good if you want to enjoy the Rotorua area but don't want to stay in the City. I'd recommend this property to families as kids loved the space to run around. Really good value for money.

Peaceful retreat
My family and I had a great time staying at the Shearer's Retreat! It's an easy drive to Rotorua and the property was cozy, and had everything we needed - including toys, porta-cot, and high chair for our little one. Also, the beds were comfy! I highly recommend and can't wait to stay again. Special thanks to Celia who is posting us an item we left behind - so kind!

Wonderful farm stay
We really enjoyed our stay. Check in was easy, with clear instructions how to access the property. We appreciated all the little touches like duplo for the kids, flour in the pantry and of course the animals near by.
Collecting eggs and feeding the horses was a highlight for our toddler.
The place was immaculately clean, with lots of space and a beaut deck to hang out on.
The trip was made more special for a horse ride with Sophie.
A few practical things might need attending to (we shared these with the owner also) shower was hit and miss (we mostly bathed in cold water which was fine as it was hot weather) and the fridge might be on its way out as it stopped working for a period of time.
We would definitely stay here again, thank you to Celia for such a great stay.

Country get away
This is a great countryside rustic farm cottage but still close to Rotorua. Great place to chill out and enjoy the countryside whilst still having easy access to the sights of Rotorua.
Thanks Celia and John for making this place available.

Private retreat
The property is quaint and peaceful. It was a little slice of secluded heaven that was still close to all the restaurants and attractions in Rotorua. We really enjoyed the fresh eggs every morning.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, couches and beds very comfortable and the property was exactly as expected - it reminded me of my holidays in NZ as a child. It is a short drive out from Rotorua which we loved. It is quite close to Skyline Luge/Sky Swing etc and great for a fast exist north to Auckland Airport via Hobbiton Tour. Very friendly and would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a true Kiwi farm experience.

This property has a very homely feel. Lots of privacy, a great porch to watch the sunrise (when dealing with a jetlag) Close to Rotorua, but really rural and quiet. Kids will love the animals and the spacious yard to play in.

Lovely and homely. Comfy couches and the huge king bed ..very nice. The property is warm and cosy, plenty of bed linen and kitchen items. The chickens make friends, come to your call and love a scratch around in the field. Reward..fresh eggs. Tranquil and quiet. All this on a farm 10 minutes from Rotorua. Excellent locations for all the main attractions.

This is a great bach and great value for money! We had two international students with us which meant that we needed a separate bedroom for them. The bach is close to town and the girls did the fun things on the fine days and we went to the Polynesian pools on the wet day. The girls loved being able to feed the horses and seeing the chooks on the property. Celia and John were really warm and welcoming - we all had a great time and hope to return in the not too distant future!
