Brookhouse is well-priced, comfortable and nicely outfitted for our family of four, with the bonus of a waterfront yard offering a view that should be in a magazine. It offers easy access to a bunch of harbor towns and is minutes from the less busy section of ANP. It was also perfect to be a short drive or ferry ride to Bar Harbor, but then to return to such a peaceful, private house. Next time we come, we plan to spend more days just sitting in the yard on the waterfront - reading, monitoring the tides, watching the wildlife, exploring the rocks, and listening to the brook water rolling into the cove. Janet is a great communicator and provided us with marked maps with recommended places to visit that were right on! Thanks!

Great little cottage with fantastic views and well stocked. Note that if you plan to spend a lot of time hiking, etc. in Acadia/Bar Harbor it is a hour or more drive. We enjoyed our stay.

Absolutely loved our 2 week stay at Brookhouse!
The view was breathtaking! The sweet little cottage was so cozy with inviting views and sounds of nature. A must for a real coastal Maine experience!

Our second stay here was a repeat of 2023…everything was perfect. Cottage is beautiful and comfortable with everything we needed to have a great stay. The harbor is beautiful and peaceful. Watching the rising and falling tides accompanied by visits from gulls, an eagle and cormorants is a method of attaining temporary peace that can’t be duplicated. The Schoodic peninsula is a quiet alternative to MDI which has become an area overrun by folks seeking solitude which can’t be found there any longer. This one in prospect harbor is a gem worth a long look!!

This cottage is in a perfect location to enjoy the Schoodic Peninsula and areas nearby - easy access to lots of trails, the town of winter harbor, and areas further east. Many places were closed because we were there after the long October weekend, but we were happy with how quiet things were.
The entire home is well-equipped, the beds are comfortable (a must for our aging bodies), and the host was super easy to communicate with. The living room also has comfortable furniture and the view is gorgeous! It was a great spot to enjoy morning coffee and to just sit and read later in the day. Although we didn't use the outdoor space because of the cold weather, it would be another peaceful and beautiful place to hang out.
On the Schoodic peninsula, we particularly enjoyed the Schoodic Mountain and the Schoodic Head trails for hiking, and Raven's point for the sunset. A little further east, we liked the Petit Manan Wild Life Refuge trails - beautiful woodland and coastal views, and easier hiking than the steeper Schoodic trails. Many of the things we enjoyed most came as recommendations from the friendly locals we met - it is a great place!

I was needing some quiet and slow paced time and I certainly got that at Brook House. I didn’t get in my car for the first four days of my two week stay. I had the gorgeous view of the harbor to watch with the the tides coming and going, each day a different scene. Brook House is as lovely as the views. I was there right after a hurricane. The brook along the side of the cottage was raging for days. Very exciting! One day a bald eagle swooped down and grabbed something from out of the brook, just a few feet from the picture window.
My dog and I went for walks right from the cottage along the roads with few or no cars. Walking to the lighthouse was a favorite. This is a “get away from it all” place. No crowds, no shopping malls, just a few small villages, shops, and the Schoodic Peninsula for rocky shoreline views, hiking, birdwatching, biking, and more.
Thanks Janet, for providing such a comfortable and clean cottage. Everything I needed was right there. Loved my stay at Brook House. I’m already booked for two weeks next year.

We loved our stay at the Brook house! The views are amazing and the area is absolutely beautiful. The house has everything you need and being dog friendly made it even better. Janet was awesome! Always responsive and helpful when you had a question. We hope to return again in the near future!

I cannot say enough good about this property. I don’t even know where to start. The location is literally perfect honestly! We knew when we pulled up and walked around we were in for a treat! This was further confirmed when we walked inside. What a delight! The house is perfect and you can feel the love that has been brook house for many years. The energy was so good. The house is stocked perfectly we didn't want for anything except groceries for the week. This is honestly the best VRBO property we have stayed in! I could go on and on. You will have to see for yourself! We feel blessed to have experienced this little slice of heaven. The host is amazing as well very accommodating and helpful. Thank you Janet for sharing your brook house with us.

This was a return visit to Brookhouse for us, and we continue to be wowed by the incredible view just out the front door. We saw the resident eagle, foxes, and deer during our stay. Janet is a wonderful host and responded quickly when we ran into a small maintenance issue. Highly recommended!

Words could never describe the beauty of this cottage. The setting is stunning, tides rise and fall right in your backyard, there are visits from gulls and an eagle and the sound of the brook will induce a sense of calm and tranquility.
Janet (the owner) was exceptional to work with. She kept us informed prior to the trip and was available during the stay if any issues came us (no issues came up) We like the Schoodic peninsula for its beauty, rugged coastline, crashing waves and relatively easy trails to walk. We are already looking into a stay here next year. Thank you for a wonderful week!

I consider myself so lucky to have landed with this home. The house is cute, decorated as you would expect by the ocean’s edge, warm, stocked, and has excellent energy.
But, the land is the star. From the small stream running along the edge of the property to the magic of watching the tides come in and out every day, the land is the star.
This is a very safe, homey place that shares its magic with its guests.
I cannot wait to return.

If you are looking for a quiet place to relax then this is the place for you. The cottage is cozy and charming and the views are amazing! The locals were all very friendly and helpful. There are a lot of things to see and do in the surrounding areas and Acadia Schoodic area is close by with plenty of beautiful places to hike and explore. We enjoyed our stay and cant wait to go back again.Thank you so much for a wonderful vacation. Steve and Doris Anderson

This was our second visit and we have already reserved a third one. We love this place. It has a tremendous view of the water and is close to the Schoodic part of Acadia National Park. We especially like that it is pet friendly.

This was an amazing vacation. The property was certainly part of that. The property and the view was better than the pictures, I don't think any pictures could really do it justice! The location was great being away from the crowds if Bar Harbor but still near plenty of activities. The owner and the neighbors were very nice and helpful. Janet thought of everything. I would stay there again and would recommend it to anyone looking for an incredibly relaxing vacation.

That's what we found at Janet's delightful cottage in Prospect Harbor. The million dollar view can't be beat! The cottage has been lovingly maintained . Be sure to take your binoculars.
We saw bald eagle, otter, seal and cormorants. We weren' t sad to leave because we've already booked for next year.

Brookhouse cottage was just what we needed. Quiet quaint little fishing village. The scenery out the living room window looking out into the bay than ocean was breathtaking. The ever changing tides, the eagle diving for fish, the seal swimming in and about the harbor. It was so neat to just sit and watch this . Janet was a great hostess and responded quickly to any questions we might have had. Cute little loft sleeping available if you have young kids , just not suitable for adults in my opinion. We hope to come back again . You won’t be disappointed in staying there.

We had the privilege of spending a week at the Brookhouse. We found the property to be everything we wanted for a restful, relaxing vacation for all members of our family. No matter what time of day you looked out the window or sat in the yard there was an amazing view to be had. The sound of the brook was amazing sound to fall asleep to every night. We can't wait to return to the Brookhouse for yet another wonderful stay.

We rented this property for a month to recuperate from a major cancer surgery and could not have found a more peaceful and relaxing spot. Brookhouse offers immediate tranquillity and a stunning ocean vista that you are lucky enough to wake up to each morning and go to sleep to the sounds of at night. Aside from this amazing property, the local Mainers in Prospect Harbor are generous, hospitable and we made some forever friends. So much to do and see in this area! Even in a month we did not run out of things to do and places to see. This was a no regret stay for us and we plan to be regulars. Thank you Janet!

The location is excellent. The view of the small bay is wonderful, and always changing with tide and the weather. The cottage is very tastefully decorated with art and antiques. It is very close to the road, and at night you can hear cars driving by. Sleeping space is a bit unusual. Master bedroom with queen bed, and another room with a full size bed and access to a loft with two twin beds. There is no dishwasher. The grill was useful. There is a small post office walking distance from the cottage, as well as a small library, and an antique shop. Also, small light house is a few miles away. Unfortunately, the road to the closest grocery store was closed, so we had to drive to Ellsworth for groceries. If you plan to visit Acadia for hikes, it is almost an hour away. The drive is pleasant though, as it has scenic views of the Mount Desert Island, and many interesting shops and restaurants along the route.

The property is locate in a very nice location, away from the crowds, close to a few very authentic fishing towns, Corea being my favorate, and still close enough to major regional attractions. Generally anywere that is more 30min to nearest walmart is my definition of unique experience, this home will provide a unique getaway with local almost everything you will feel like a down easter. Everything was local and felt authentic. You feel being with the people of Maine. The views were awsome from the house and on top of that you have a few very decent local atrraction, a winnary for local wines and spiritis (Bartlett), and plenty of excursion oppertunities. While we spent most eveinings in Schoodic peninsula and in the back yard, we did daily trips to Bar Harbour and Acadia. The drive is about 40-45 min and a very pleasent one. With two kids, it was basically designed for their napped time. Overall I think Brookhouse provides a very unique experience and I recommend it if you like the ewal taste of down east.

Staying at Brookhouse is a wonderful experience. The house is well taken care of and well thought out. Very clean.
The sound of the brook and water birds, and the view of the water is soothing. It was hard to leave! But there is so much to do in the area! Wine tasting at Bartlett and Catherine Hill; hiking in Acadia, the Frenchman Bay Preserves, and at Donnell Pond public land; shopping at antique stores, junk shops, artist studios and local shops. We enjoyed ourselves staying and going! The kitchen has everything you need to cook in, but there are also plenty of places (open on the weekends, so call ahead!) to eat out. Jim the artist and Liz the neighbor are very friendly and helpful.
This is a great place to stay!!

My husband and I spent the month of August in Janet's cute cottage. What a view! We loved looking out onto the water from the sofa and crossing the lawn to take a dip in the ocean. Liz (the caretaker) brought us fresh vegetables from her garden and fish -- she is awesome! Best part of the month: having Acadia's Schoodic park a very short ride away.

This is a small house located on a beautiful inlet just off Highway 1. The tap water, unfortunately, had a strong odor of sulfur and so we had to buy bottled water for drinking. The bedroom was comfortable and the sitting room had a convertible sofa which has seen better days. The mattress needed an air mattress placed on top of it and this periodically ran low on air and had to be refilled using the motorized pump. There are two twin beds in the attic/loft but these are not suited for adults due to the 3/4 ft ceiling height. The loft is accessible via a steep ladder and so children may not be comfortable climbing up and down into that space. The owner was very helpful and accommodating. She offered to reimburse us for additional glassware that was needed but we opted to buy disposable cups. We appreciated having the washer and dryer and the BBQ available. There is no dishwasher.
That said, the location was convenient and beautiful. This house is ideally suited for two adults who want to enjoy the changing tides and lovely scenery.

We spent nearly 2 weeks at Brookhouse and we had a great time. Schoodic peninsula is beautiful and less touristic than Bar Harbor area. The house looks much better in person than in photos and the views from the backyard are amazing! 100% recommended.

Our kids especially loved this cottage - sleeping loft and plenty of rocks to climb! It was an authentic coastal Maine experience. The view of the harbor was lovely and changed all day. Janet was an excellent communicator. Loved getting to see the home’s history through photographs!

Lovely big beautiful picture window of exquisite harbor not to mention the full speed babbling brook that borders property lulling us to sleep at night. This is a diamond in the rough ! The owners are communicative and generous with amenities . A real Downeaster experience with authenticity and beauty.
