About this cottage rental
'Foote Rest Cottage' - A 10 min walk to miles of ocean beaches/sand dunes, this renovated 1940's Cape, located in the National Seashore sits on a large wooded lot. Large, L-shaped LR/DR area features cathedral ceiling, skylights, knotty pine paneling, ceiling fan, Scandavian wood burning fireplace/stove. Spacious, bright eat-in kitchen w/ table and bar; kitchen and sleeping BR/den open onto sunny deck through sliding glass doors. A second deck overlooks mature forest and a creek flowing through the back of this secluded property. In front, a country road connects to National Seashore Park trails with wildlife and a rare White CedarTree preserve and Marconi site.
A 1/2 mi walk in the other direction gives you direct access to the Bicycle Rail Trail and Post Office. Avoid Rte 6 traffic by taking Ocean View Drive into town, harbor, or glacier ponds for a swim or kayaking. Cottage is only 1/2 hr drive to Provincetown for nightlife and terrific whale watching.
Guests Say: Guests say they like our Foote Rest Cottage because it is private, tranquil, near the ocean, bike path Rail Trail, and General Store -- all within walking distance. Nestled in the National Seashore, it's two decks are private, and sunny. While relaxing on the back deck, one can hear birds chirp and watch wild turkeys fly over the trees, and in July, can eat blueberries from the bushes off the back deck.
The bunk room downstairs allows for lounging and indoor recreation. The cottage sits on the original Wireless Road (now private) to the Marconi Station site and one can have their own private walk to the Marconi site, the White Cedar Swamp Trail or the Bluffs overlooking the Atlantic.

Great location to the beach, bike trails and food.

Perfect wellfleet home. This place is what wellfleet is all about. On the national seashore side, very close to le count hollow beach, maybe a 3 minute bike ride. Located in the woods just off a very quiet road. We spend almost all of our time at the beach, nice to come back to an outdoor shower, lovely deck for breakfast outside. Fire pit, hammock. Exactly as pictured. I have been renting in wellfleet for 15 years every dinner and this one is fantastic. Super responsive owner

We enjoyed the peaceful setting which was a short walk or bike ride from Lecount Hollow Beach. We also liked the easy walk along the fire road to the Marconi wireless station. The house was comfortable and well equipped for preparing meals, something many rentals don’t offer. We would go back next year if circumstances allow.

We’ve been staying at Jackie’s smaller house across the street for the last several years. This year we ended up bringing my parents as well, so we needed a bit more space. The Foote Cottage is lovely and homey, with plenty of space for the 5 of us to spread out! You cannot beat the location, being within walking distance to the beach, bike trail and PB’s and Jackie has always been an amazing and gracious host. We can’t wait to go back!

Splendid Wellfleet family cottage with great location
Wonderful homey cottage in off main road woodsy locale. Fully adaptable for three generations of visitors with even a foosball set to promote high powered tournaments. Kitchen is well stocked, dining on deck, outdoor grill, lounging on rear private deck and glorious outdoor shower. And the location is key for access to ocean, fresh water ponds and other Cape special places. Great support and tips from owner, Jackie.

Perfect Week in Wellfleet
The Foote Cottage was a perfect choice for my family. The property itself was well-maintained and spacious - with 2 beautiful terraces, a fully-stocked kitchen, comfortable living room space. The house definitely had a family feel vs a typical beach rental property. Jackie was a very communicative host who made check-in/check-out experience easy and seamless. She also made herself easily available of the course of the stay to answer any questions about the house or the area. Extra points for the location - a walking distance to the beach, bike trail as well as easy breakfast options. The town was a short drive from the house. Would definitely recommend this place for a group of up to 6 people, and hoping to return next summer.

Great Stay
Wonderful place. Very clean and well stocked to live in. Great location- two bakeries walkable for breakfast and lunch and walkable to the beach. Jackie was very good to work with. Loved the outdoor shower for after the beach, enjoyed the fire pit at night and kids loved the swings and hammock.

Quaint cottage in ideal location
My husband and I absolutely loved this house. We felt at home with the cozy decor and nostalgic feel of the house. The outdoor shower is so wonderful to have. We also loved the location. We biked nearly every day to Lecount Beach just down the street. We also enjoyed biking to some of the Wellfleet ponds where parking can be difficult. The trails to the left of the house were so nice as well and the lookout was beautiful. We love the outer cape and especially Wellfleet. We try to visit every summer and hope to visit this house again next year. Our host was very kind and responsive with information. She checked in to ensure everything was good and always got back to us right away with any questions. Thank you for our very relaxing stay!

Foote Rest Cottage a Wellfleet Gem
The cottage is clean and accommodations inviting for families. There are so many things to do with ease of accessibility to beaches, LeCount Hollow in walking distance, ponds, bike path, Cedar Swamp walking trails out the cottage door is a big plus. The cottage has plenty of space for families with 2 1/2 baths & an outdoor shower that rocks. The yard has a fire pit & the back deck looked out over a beautiful wooded landscape. You can watch the bunnies & even see deer . This is a quintessential Cape home with a-lot to offer!

Perfect place to stay if you want to go to beach
We stayed with one other couple and our friends rented a hotel. We got chased off the beach day one by torrential down pours. So we had our friends come back with us to play games. They had an ez up that we set up on porch we got to still be outside and play games and cards and visit with each other. Could not have done that is we stayed in a hotel. They are all on board to rent houses for next year instead of a hotel. It was so much fun, and the place was perfect!!

Hidden gem
We have done day trips to Welfleet but never stayed in the area. We were headed for a cramped hotel until Jacqueline was willing to rent to us for a long weekend. Here’s why this is a great Welfleet rental:
1. Helpful and gracious owner
2. Awesome location within a short walking distance to the beach, two amazing bakeries, the bike path (including rental shop) and a world-class French bistro. We enjoyed them all.
3. Wooded, peaceful setting but right off a major road. I consider it the best of both worlds. A shaded retreat from the sun without feeling buggy or isolated. (I’m not a big woodsy person).
4. Easy drive to Welfleet harbor with warm, bayside beaches and more fun restaurants.
5. Easy drive to the Welfleet drive-in, which is fun with or without kids.
6. If you prefer to eat in, the house is well-stocked and clean. It is just like the photos, with dated decor (so-to-speak) and personal memorabilia. But that’s what makes the home so charming.
7. Fire pit
8. Huge deck
9. Outdoor shower
10. Basement bedroom with separate entrance and bathroom. Great for my teens.
Loved it. Cannot wait to go back.

Wellfleet Hidden Gem
Rented this property through homeaway.com. Process was quick & easy. The owner was very helpful & responsive. The process was well organized & communication was very good. The property is lovely & location delightful. Privacy, this home tucked into the woods with Cedar Swamp trail walking path to Marconi site. Beautiful Wellfleet beach a 10 minute walk. Quick access to ponds. Most of all a very comfortable, clean home.

Quiet, close to beach and well stocked
We had a great stay at Footerest and Jackie was a very nice host and organized host.
The house is located in the woods off of a dirt road. There is one house across the road but otherwise very secluded.
We ended up not buying a beach parking permit as we wanted to explore dofferent areas outside of Wellfleet. That being said we ended up going to Lecount beach 3 of the 5 days and 1 of the other days we went to Beachcomber so the parking pass would have made sense. Lecount beach is very nice and less crowed but a parking pass is required(available at town harbor). When we went to Lecount I would drive down to the beach to drop of people and gear, then drive back to the house, then make the 10 minutes walk back to the beach. Very convenient location.
PB bakery line was very long every day so we never ended up trying it but Chocolate Bakery was very good. Liquor store down the street was great. Blackfish and Wicked Oyster were both great dinners and easy reservations.
The house was very well stocked with cooking accessories, gas for the grill, plastic baggies, spices, oil, paper towels and starter toilet paper. Washer and dryer worked well. Also a clothes line in the back for drying items not dryer safe. Beach toys and chairs in the basement. Some of these items are not listed on the VBRO listing so I cannot say if they are always available. Check with Jackie if you are questioning anything. She was very responsive and helpful.
Overall 5 stars. Thanks for renting your family home to us Jackie.

Wonderful way to reconnect with your family.
Our family had a wonderful vacation at the Foote Rest Cottage. I have rented many vacation properties in the past but I definitely felt like I was in a "home." I enjoyed reading about the Foote Family and seeing the old photos of the early years from the l940s and the other family memorabilia. Our sons are 25, 22, and 15 and it is not always easy to find something for everyone. The location was fantastic. There is a dirt path that leads to the Marconi site, which overlooks the ocean. Great for watching for seals. And just a 10 minute walk to a great beach so you don't have to drive, unless you have small children. The Cape Cod Rail Trail is just down the road. I enjoyed several lovely bike rides. I loved the fact that this home is tucked away in the woods. It's nice to be able to be outside but out of the sun unlike other beach houses. The location is very quiet at night. A great deck where we enjoyed our meals. I actually preferred not eating out because the deck was so enjoyable. Why pay money to wait in line in a noisy restaurant and not be able to enjoy the outdoors? The outdoor shower was a such a treat and surrounded by woods. The house is very well maintained. Very clean. The town of Wellfleet is charming. The Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary is a short drive down route 6 and a must if you enjoy nature. Lovely walks, great views, lots of things for kids to see and touch. This is the second time we have stayed in Wellfleet and I would not even consider looking at another house. I hope we will make this a new tradition.

The perfect hideaway for a RELAXING vacation.
I have stayed at the Foote Rest almost every year of my life. As I grew older I came to appreciate the location of this quaint little house in the woods. I love the outdoors, quiet and solitude. This is the perfect place to get away with your family. You can spend a week here without getting into your car if you want. Some of my favorite activities while at the Foote Rest include: playing cards with my family, reading on the deck or in the hammock, picking blueberries (they grow behind the house), utilizing the outdoor shower, cooking a tasty dinner with my family, walking to the general store or to the beach to swim and bodysurf in the water, running on the White Cedar Swamp Trail and to the Marconi Site, biking into town (you can avoid Rte 6 all-together), and riding my bike along the rail trail or to the ponds. There are sunfish rentals at Gull Pond, the water is generally warmer than the Atlantic, and the sand is nice and soft. When you find youself this far out on the Cape, you will realize that much of what the Cape has been for the past 100 years is still preserved. It is unusual to find such natural beauty protected on the East Coast nowadays. This is a place where you can take a deep breath, relax, and reconnect with yourself or your family, or just forget about the world. It makes an impression on your heart you will never forget.
