There's a lot to like here, but as always in Eden, there are a few serpents. If you are expecting warm, sunny days on the beach, you may be disappointed; check LOCAL forecasts carefully before booking. Our Lonely Planet referred to "dry conditions" in February, but it rained, sometimes intensely, on and off both day & night, for nearly all of our 12-day stay. (It was supposed to be two weeks, but we bailed after an especially heavy rain left everything swampy.) There were only 2 or 3 days when we saw the sun for more than an hour or so. Some locals said this was normal for the season, others claimed it was unusually wet. Of course, rain may not affect you if you are spending most of your time surfing or diving. Another drawback, exacerbated by cloudy weather, is that the cabin is very, very dark inside -- except in the bath, which has skylights; we often sat there so we could see well enough to play cards. Elsewhere, we often had to turn on the lights to see what we were doing, even in mid-day. It's way too dark for reading without night-vision glasses. On the positive side, the place is very quiet except for the surf, the numerous parrots, and the occasional troupes of howler monkeys. We saw or heard only 2 or 3 passing vehicles during our entire stay. The outdoor shower is wonderful. You can in fact prance around naked if you like, as long as the presence of Benito, the gardener, does not embarrass you; he's there weekdays till about 1 pm. Speaking of surf, the beach is too dangerous for swimming most of the year due to strong rip currents. According to Clay, the local manager / caretaker, even walking at the water's edge is dangerous due to unpredictable rogue waves that can knock you down and drag you off. By far the biggest plus is Clay himself. He was a total sweetheart, going far out of his way several times to keep us happy. He is an experienced surfer and diver and very interesting to talk to.

How do you describe waking up in paradise? It's embarrassing to admit how long it's been since my husband and I lived "off grid". Other than camping a few times over the years, it's been a while. No cell phone, TV or computer to distract you, there's nothing like this little piece of heaven. You completely unwind, and let go. The people, the smells, the music, the sounds of the monkeys and birds every morning will forever stay embedded in my mind as I remember our time at Wiley's. Clay was the perfect host - picking us up and taking us back; taking us shopping for supplies, snorkeling in the afternoon, with FRESH lobsters no less, to take home that night. Benito - always smiling, and forever there w/ fresh fruits and vegetables from the gardens. We hope to go back, soon, to live in the experience again; hopefully this time, for a while. It seems you just begin to "de-stress" when it's time to go back. Six days is not long enough to completely remember getting back to the basics of living, loving every minute of it, and remembering what really matters. I would recommend this experience to everyone wanting to find themselves again, and remember the important things in life. We will be back - Gary & Sandy Buckner (June 13 - 19, 2017)

This property is quite more than it is written, photographed or verbally stated. The sounds, smells, breezes, pounding surf, true jungle and Caribbean blue can not be fully stated in words. Our trip was far too short at 7 days to feel the true rhythm that awaits on the north side of this island or throughout the archipelago. Benito, the land caretaker, is a sweet, calm, curious and helpful human being that wishes you to enjoy the fruits and vegetables of his labor. Clay and Allene the property managers are attentive to your every need and eager for you to experience their ecosystem that is truly a paradise. We shall return, Stacie and Christopher Burdette

Beautiful property in Panama. Secluded and private, yet we felt totally safe. The grounds are extremely well maintained by the gardener, Benito, who was also was very friendly and willing to show us around. He also gathered us fresh fruit and opened several coconuts for us. The real gem of the property is the manager, Clay. He was so inviting and knowledgeable of the area. He pointed out several native animals and was extremely helpful in getting us settled in. Had a great boat trip with him as he guided us around the other islands and kept us entertained with stories of the area. The beach was beautiful for the first two days, then the surf kicked up, washed all the sand away, and made swimming dangerous. No worries though, still able to hang out near the water and Clay, who is an avid surfer, told us fascinating surf stories. Too bad we were to chicken to try surfing! However, we would recommend him as an instructor to those interested in learning. Thought about heading to the beach at Bocas del Drago or near the river, but enjoyed watching the wildlife so much we didn't want to leave the property except for supplies. Great 10 days on the island! Would love to return! Aaron & Lissa, USA

I was told that there was a private beach. I rented because of my little daughters. But there is no such beach. So we didn't stay there. And I did not get any response from the owner. And she kept with my money. Awful...

We arrived in Bocas del Toro of an evening and woke up to such a beautiful sunrise and gorgeous gardens! A BIG thank you to Clay and Allene for the hospitality, knowledge and friendship. We enjoyed the time we spent with you! Benito was a pleasure and always willing to share his knowledge as well - even though we had a language barrier! The beautiful haven in the rain forest was all it said and more! Again, thanks! Kim & Jay

We began our trip to the Bocas del Toro area with 4 nights at this beautiful spot. Certainly not luxury, but if you like to be out in nature and enjoy solitude, this place is great. The large lot is kept up nicely by Benito, the local Ngöbe who takes care of the place and is there daily. He kept us supplied with fruits from the various trees around the area. Really nice view, lots of wildlife around, you're basically out in the jungle and away from crazy Bocas town. About a one hour walk to Bocas del Drago, which has a couple of restaurants and a pretty nice beach. Water taxis depart from there to Playa Estrella, which is worth a visit but beware of partiers. You will be in the capable hands of Clay, who lives on the next property over and provides assistance to all visitors. He's able to provide transportation, knows all about the flora and fauna of the area, has some pretty cool dogs and might play you a tune or two if he's in a musical mood. We very much enjoyed our stay and would come back.
