About this house rental
THE CLOSEST WALK TO THE BEACH...!
StormySky BeachHouse has been voted in the Top 10 rental homes on Kangaroo Island by South Australia Tourism and is a is a light and spacious character beach house literally 100 steps from the beach. It is tucked into a secluded bush setting, so that whilst one hears the waves crashing on the beach, there is protection from the elements. The beach house will appeal to people wanting accommodation designed for a nature based holiday experience, yet still providing all the comforts required to have a relaxing and enjoyable break.
StormySky has three bedrooms with one queen, one double and two single beds, so can sleep six people comfortably. There is a fully equipped kitchen so that one can take advantage of any locally bought specialty Kangaroo Island produce, and adjacent to the living area is a great outdoor patio with BBQ. The lounge has a cosy wood fire for those cool nights, a TV, stereo, books and games, and there are overhead fans in the living area and main bedroom for the warmer days. Please be mindful that the house is entirely run on rainwater, so minimal water consumption is appreciated.
SURROUNDINGS
Those 100 steps or so from StormySky BeachHouse brings you to the middle of the expansive Vivonne Bay beach with its captivating turquoise water. The Eleanor and Harriet Rivers, with their calm water, are both great walks from here. The Harriet is suitable for boating, fishing and safe swimming for the kids and there is a playground on the western side of the river. Further around, near Castle Rock and the jetty there is good snorkeling. The jetty of course is a great place to try your hand at catching dinner.
Wildlife abounds, with wallabies, possums and goannas seen regularly near the house. Little Penguins can sometimes be sighted after dark near the jetty and there is the odd Fur Seal sighting; in the winter months one may spot Southern Right Whales. Birds are ubiquitous and are seen in abundance both in the bush and on the sea shore. Our favourite visitors to the house are the Superb Fairy Wren and the beautiful Firetail Finch. Fill up the bird bath outside the kitchen window to encourage more feathered visitors!
The local shop stocks basic supplies, makes the best whiting burger and down the road at Outdoor Action one can hire gear such kayaks, canoes, sandboards and surfboards. The local golf course is an experience. And the coastline is stunning; one can walk along the beach for miles. If the southerly breeze or the surf beach is a little too much for you, turn towards the jetty and you will find a little sheltered swimming spot at the end of the beach, or walk over that headland to the safe and beautiful Castle Rock beach.
Vivonne Bay is ideally placed to access all of the major attractions on the Island. Little Sahara (sand boarding) and Raptor Domain (amazing bird shows) are close by. Flinders Chase (for Admirals Arch and the Remarkable Rocks), Seal Bay, Hanson Bay and Kelly Hill Caves are all within a half hour drive.

Lovely and quiet. Loved the wildlife. Perfect

Beside the presence of beautiful birds and curious wallabies trying to see us from the windows (they were so cute!), this house is amazingly quiet and calm. We can hear the waves of the sea with the windows open.
Over all this, the owners put a lot of details in place to ensure our comfort. There were even adaptor to plug our phone. The kitchen is supplied with more than we've seen in any other houses: books, games (a bunch of them!), maps of the island. We can see that the owners care.
The only slight issue we had was the connection with Internet ; there is no wifi in the house and my old cell phone was difficult for the reservation for Kelly hills cave and seal bay. I may suggest to provide Wifi to help the guesses.
So if you are looking for a calm place, cozy, peacefull with plenty of birds and wallabies, this is your place.

We loved our stay.
Great location in Vivonne Bay, stroll to the beach, 15 minute walk to the delightful general store.
The house had everything we needed, and the tranquillity was magic.
All we ever heard were the ocean and birds!

We loved the native wildlife - kangaroos and birds - visiting us during our breakfasts and dinners at home.
The apartment is warm & cozy and we appreciated the water saving tips provided by the owner.
The home is conveniently located to the island's key nature attractions - the seals, birds of prey & remarkable rocks, little Saraha - so we saved over an hour driving every day.

We stayed at 6 people for 5 nights.
It was the perfect spot for us, surrounded by nature, the house is a gorgeous place for peace and rest.
Wallabies visiting mornings and night.
Watching the sunrise on the ocean.
Easy drives to access parcs and places across the entire island.
Kitchen has all what you need to cook and dine (fry pans are good quality, thank you!).
One bathroom for 6 was a bit challenging at times but we managed! :-)
Thank you for sharing your place with travellers!
Emmanuelle and family :-)

Surrounded by the wild beauty of Vivonne Bay beach and close to kangaroos and birdlife, this is an excellent and comfortable house for a family. Little to no reception for phone use so if you can't be out of touch then perhaps stay closer to the bigger settlements. Also you will need to be prepared with groceries as there are minimal options for food in the area. It is a big drive to the supermarket and no options for an evening meal under 30 minutes drive away. If you want peace and quiet with multiple amazing interactions with nature this place is fantastic

Rustic holiday place, a great base for exploring the west and south of the island. Interesting books to read, and decore to enjoy. Loved the birds and wallabies that visited the property. Very close to a wild and beautiful beach. We found the low lounge a bit hard to get out of.

easy access. Our family 'found' playing cards again a GREAT idea. A short walk to the steps down to a stunning beach & a 400 mt (approx) walk along the beach to Harriertt river. The outdoor space behind the house is delightful. Book of information & instruction most welcoming & helpful. Well appointed through out. Quality thought of furniture & fittings. Convenient to Admirals Arch, Remarkable Rocks etc. & Hanson Bay beach for a paddle and walk. Lots of fauna & bird life close to the house. Having spent a few days near American River we picked a perfect spot & hostess at this end of this wonderful island. Thank you.

Lovely quiet retreat to explore the southern and western areas of kangaroo island. Also an opportunity to stay in and play some board games.

I wish we had stayed longer as this was exactly what the family needed. Time out in beautiful accommodation with all of our activities within driving reach.
Vivonne Beach is a hidden gem and incredibly private. Our girls had an amazing time splashing about in the waves. We have been reasonably blessed with weather but will definitely be back in warmer months to take advantage of the outdoors at Stormy Skye.

We concluded our visit to Kangaroo Island (with our 3 grandchildren) by staying at Vivonne Bay for 3 nights. The bedrooms were ideal for our needs and the location proved excellent. A short walk to the beautiful beach, just under an hour to get to Admirals Arch carpark and just over an hour to get to the ferry. As well as supplying basic provisions, the general store had a large area for viewing their large screen TV, which was packed out by the crowd who came to watch the AFL grand final!

Great place to stay! Quiet, isolated yet close enough to do activities
Nice humble seaside cottage feel with fire place, great bbq outdoor area and simple facilities available

This property is located in easy walking distance of spectacular beach scenery - as good as any of the world’s famous beaches

A cozy winter getaway, quiet & close to amazing beach. Great proximity to islands attractions.
Very happy with all aspects of renting from booking, communication with hosts & easy check in.
Suggestion a door on laundry, felt a waste heating an area that we didn't use.

Very comfortable home and great location. Really enjoyed our 3 days

Cosy, comfortable and great location
This is tucked away in the beach blocks of Vivonne Bay. We were there in May so the days were beautiful and sunny, but the nights were cool. The lounge has a fireplace so on all our 3 nights we had the fire going, so cosy! The lounge also has a comfortable large lounge to relax on. Vivonne Bay has great access to Seal Bay and Flinders Chase National Park. There is a general store nearby with cafe but you need to bring provisions. Kitchen is well appointed with basic supplies. Beach is close to Stormy Sky and is lovely. The house is on tank water so do not expect to be able to use washing machine and short showers are appreciated. The house is secluded in a bush setting and is quiet with the sound of birds and waves.

Great property - looks as per pictures. Good location in vivonne bay with beautiful beach just a couple of minutes walk away. Saw lots of wildlife with wallabies in the back yard every morning and even a koala spotted in the front yard. Fairly remote in terms of location with just the general store in town and little to no phone reception on Optus or Telstra but great for a quiet getaway.

Winter family getaway
Lovely well equipped house, had everything we needed and plenty of space. Great out door areas but due to it being cold we didn’t use, but would be fantastic in warmer weather.
Two minute walk to the beautiful Vivonne Bay beach.
No internet for us but was the perfect way to unplug two teenagers.
We had a fantastic time in KI and will be coming back again

Beautiful house and location
We had a wonderful stay at Stormy Sky as part of our road trip around KI. It was wonderful to check in after a few days camping and have a nice shower and sleep in a proper bed. The house was very clean and exactly as photographed and described. Check in was easy and communication was very clear. We lucked out completely with the weather too, we would definitely visit again.

KI holiday
Convenience equipment and cleanliness was vert good. Some of the furniture was just too rustic so the rental came across as being too high.
